The Museum Of Ayrshire Country Life And Costume

Brilliant place for a rainy day visit. Lots to look at and explore, everything from clothing to farming equipment and old household objects / appliances. Wonderful cafe on site that sells hot drinks, homemade cakes, soups, etc. Indoor and outdoor seating. No card payments, so take cash with you.

Interesting place, tucked away in Saltcoats. Needs a wee bit of money spent on it, but the staff are enthusiastic and the information is presented in an interesting way. Thumbs up to the museum. It's a place you SHOULD take the kids to, even if they don't want to, if they want to know more about 'yesterday' . . . .

Das ist ein kleines Museum in einer Wassermühle. Die Gebäude und die Sammlung sind von den Nachkommen des letzten Müllers und vielen Freiwilligen aufgebaut worden.
Die Ausstellung will ein Bild vom Leben in der Grafschaft Ayrshire vermitteln, vom ausgehenden 19. bis Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts. Auf 3 Etagen gibt es Bekleidung (Erdgeschoß), landwirtschaftliche und Haushaltsgeräte (1. OG) und Inneneinrichtung (2. OG) zu sehen. Alles ist sehr liebevoll gestaltet und mit umfangreichen Informationen versehen. Auf dem Rückweg nach unten kann man den laufenden Mechanismus der Mühle betrachten.
Der Eintritt kostet 4,50£, was ich völlig angemessen fand. Im Cafe gibt es prima Kuchen und Scones, oder auch einen kleinen Imbiss.

Ich gebe eine uneingeschränkte Empfehlung.

Excellent well worth the visit. The display of costumes and Ayrshire whitework is worth the visit to anyone who has an interest in textiles.

Very nice museum. Lots of costumes from the last century. Also a huge collection of house appliances and tool. The Mill is not grinding yet but the owner plans to make it functional. A nice place to go, especially when you are around
