We had a lovely evening here during a trip to Edinburgh. First of all we just dropped in for a drink. We were given free chips with our drinks and then decided to stay for dinner. The fish and chips were excellent, along with great beer and friendly service. Strongly recommended.

User

We celebrated our parents 60th wedding anniversary on Friday night. What a fantastic evening, brilliant service, food was excellent , Sam and all the staff couldn't do enough for us to make sure our night went smoothly! Thank you so much for a memorable night!!

Visited last week with a friend. I booked with a tastecard so was a very good deal. I had the hake with mussels new potatoes and veg in a delicious creamy sauce. My friend chose the fish and chips which she said was very good. Fish is sourced locally from welch's at Newhaven who I would normally buy my fish from as its always excellent. Wine a tad on the expensive side but ok. Staff were great. Definitely recommend

Took my mum for her mothers day fish and chips. Got a lovely table by the window that'd I'd requested. Food came quickly and looking even better than it did in the picture online. Nice place with pleasant staff.

User

Simply superb. Excellent beer served by friendly bar staff. What is there not to like about this pub. We will return.

User

Lovely evening with lots of friends. Good food, friendly and efficient staff, and a folk duo thrown in for good measure. A thoroughly nice Christmas night out.

One negative - please stop using plastic straws in soft drinks for adults! Ok for kids, but you don’t put a straw in wine or beer do you, so why oh why in coke and tap water for adults?! No single use straws pleeease!

User

Ideal setting looking out to the Forth! Great food and wonderful atmosphere! Highly recommend x

User

Get the mussels! This place is lovely- really nice food, service was great and gin selection was full of favourites. Watching the sunset over the harbour from here was beautiful

User

Fab two course deal before 5pm. We had fish and chips as well as mussels and beer battered onion rings. All delicious as was the fig & pistachio cheesecake. Service was excellent too!

User

Excellent food. Great service. Lovely atmosphere. All together a great evening for both adults and kids.

User

Called in because the place looked good and we wanted fish for our dinner. We weren't dissapointed. The haddock was cooked beautifully, the chunky chips were crispy and the mushy peas were sweet and tasty (pots too small). Had a great meal and the beer was good too. Happy days. Cheers!! :- )

User

Wonderful views over the Forth, especially on a sunny day, but book if requiring the excellent food!! It was very very busy on Saturday and our food took a long time to come due to the sheer amount of customers. But well worth the wait!!

User

We went along following good reviews from a work colleague. Thoroughly enjoyed the fish cake and then the fish and chips. A good selection of beers too. The staff were helpful and friendly. We will be going back.

Had Saturday lunch here yesterday. The meeting and greeting was very pleasant and we requested the table at the window, which they agreed to despite it being one for four people and we were only two. The waiter was unobtrusive but very pleasant. Lunch was as good as we hoped it would be and we were offered a box to take home what was left, as my companion has a small appetite. We both agreed that it had been a terrific experience.

Our annual Xmas Eve visit, only this time what a disappointment, the usual rigmarole of dropping of deposits and handing in the pre-order all done and dusted on our part........

However this year the food was not up to standard in years gone by the ladies of the group have always ordered the small fish and chips due to even the large size of this however much to our disappointment this year the small portion was the size of a fish finger......

Our particular waitress was rude and indifferent and as the night wore on we thought we were in a faulty towers ad-hoc sketch as the plates were almost thrown at us, on leaving for the first time in more years than we can remember we declined to pay the service charge, we did receive an apology of sorts by way of explanation that the waitress was new and stressed, however the almost non existent fish will remain a mystery.......

Then we received our bill which was incorrect as the deposit had not been deducted only to be told we should have reminded the staff to take it off .........

All in all not a great experience

We went for lunch I ordered the beef and onion burger which came after 30 mins . The burger was tasteless ,over cooked and chewy , could only manage half of it .. the staff where ok and courteous but I wouldn't recommend The Chain Pier .. I live local and quite disappointed with there food

User

So many rules and regulations around Taste Card I have no idea why they take it. Booked table as advised to be told by the school teacher like waitress we should have booked two hours in advance. You would think they would be grateful for the business on a quiet Monday instead of making us feel uncomfortable. Food was ok but experience has put me off returning.

User

Well me and my friend thought we would like a breakfast and got told that this was the best place to go to and the food is great when I walked in I never got a welcome then got asked if we had a table booked. Before I sat down I said we already know what we will have as we seen the menu from outside we asked if we could get the full Scottish breakfast then I asked for a special order to not have a tomato or mushrooms and asked if I could have it for on exchange for something else I got told that they don't do it but the will for the one off. I said yeah that will be great and I could hear the chef moaning about the tomato and mushrooms being exchange for meat but I was ok to pay extra. So I could hear the waiter saying that I was paying extra and then suddenly there fine with it which I found very rude also we had waited 40mins for our food and I noticed that there was people coming in 15-20minutes after us and they still got there food before us. When it came to leaving there was no goodbye. I would not recommend this to anyone for the rudeness of staff I.e chefs but the waiter was nice and the food was good when I eventually got it.

Of all the restaurants I have eaten at, this is by far the worst service I've ever experienced. Awful.
