How about this....A hand drawn menu for New Year’s Eve 1956 here at the hydro....Even Chris the manager wasn’t here then. I’m going for the Coupe Miami, followed by the Dindonneau and who doesn’t like a good Poire Melba, Bon appetite. And thanks to Iain Reid for this beautiful piece of history 😁

What a lovely hotel room 5 was large and modern

Staff was lovely and helpful cant wait to go back

User

Lovely staff big comfortable room lovely food have loved this break with a drive yourself Shearings

User

It's been great here. Great food & drink. Staff are great also. Entertainment is a bit thin on the ground though but it's been great using the pool. Gym. Jacuzzi. Sauna. I'd recommend it to anyone

User

Go on a Shearings holiday coach or self drive and it is the best value ever. Lovely rooms, lovely food, beautiful dining area. Lovely staff, especially Frank and the lady behind the bar evenings (Hope to see you after your maternity leave). We've been going first or second week in January for years now, and we are not even old!! Swimming pool and jacuzzi & steam room. My 88 year old dad uses the pool each morning, and us in the afternoons. Its lovely. Small blip with the heating downstairs this year - sorted quickly. Can't wait till next visit. Highly recommended - my favourite Shearings Hotel in the UK- and we have done loads!

My only fear is not being able to get a single room for my dad next time, as we apparently got the last one this year, and we booked really early. If we cant take dad - we wont be able to go.

Hope Shearings read this PERRY, WAITES & WAITES :-) Constant travellers

Currently staying at the hydro hotel right now and i honestly cant fault the place, beautiful old building and the grounds are just fantastic, lovely swimming pool sauna and lots more yet to discover, sure theirs gonna a bit chipped paint but thats to be expected from such and old building. Staff are very helpful and friendly and its a bonus that they allow dogs now. Dont be put off with any bad reviews theirs no pleasing some people and id highly recommend the place and will certainly be coming back!

User

room was nice. bed was very comfortable. breakfast was tasty and staff friendly. only a few things...the shower pressure was really low so i couldnt wash my hair. and the lounge area was cold. there was also lamps in there which would have made it more ambient however no one put them on.

User

Rooms were nice and clean, however the swimming pool was freezing and the spa and sauna wasn't very hot either, they staff were nice.

User

Had 1night stay and was very happy with room, food and staff. Would go back. I considered it very good value . The evening meal was exceptional and the breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice.

User

Over priced for what you get which in my case was not even breakfast. Think you are paying for the pool and jacuzzi. For a lot less I could have had charming B&B / guest house with 9.4 rating including breakfast. Thick dust on top of sockets, stained bath sides, poor quality bed linen (bottom sheets did not even cover mattress,) cardboard thin walls and ceilings which allowed us to be aware of guests talking in next room and guests walking in room overhead & very noisy extractor in the bathroom which meant one could not turn on bathroom light at night without disturbing others. Heated towel rail never heated up. Views and outside seating the best part of the hotel. I feel bad giving this poor review as a friend did the booking and planning and we did enjoy the jacuzzi.

User

Just returned from a lovely weekend break at the Pitlochry Hydro Staff were very friendly nice room and the food was good too we will certainly return to this Hotel next time and the bonus to us the Hotel was dog friendly which made our stay even better as Ollie just loved being spoilt by everyone thanks again to the lovely staff for making our stay most enjoyable and we even got a whole weekend of sunshine ☀️

User

Just returned from a 2 night stay at The Hydro. Really can't fault the place. The staff are all very friendly and helpful . Yes some of the decor is a bit dated but in general it is a lovely old building . The pool is excellent and the grounds very pretty. This is the second year we have stayed here and will most probably return next year.

User

Just had 4 night stay in 5be snow. Good value for money especially the £25 each bar tab. Food ok but certainly wouldn’t want to pay prices on a la carte menu. Room had nice view from front hotel, all kept lovely and clean. Pool an added bonus along with sauna and jacuzzi. Been before 2 years ago. Enjoyed our stay. Will com3 again. Haggis lovely from local butcher.

User

Good value for a mon to fri stay, if it carries on like this. (Tuesday night writing this). The pool area is worth visiting, but you have to provide you're own soap if you want to wash afterwards! When I commented at the reception desk about lack of soap, was informed they don't supply soap in changing rooms? Thought that it was a bit stingy, almost like not supplying toilet paper in the bathrooms, although they do.

User

We will not be back here for a long time, until staff have well improved.

Apart from three members of staff (The tall handyman with the beard, the gent that did the quiz and welcomes you at breakfast and lady doing the pools & hot tub tests and cleaning in that area), all other staff were very unhelpful, ignorant and rude.

The staff all come across as though they do not want to be there, reception is the worst, they don't look up from the computer to talk to you and as we left an checked out, the lady never even said good bye or thanks for staying etc, she just ignored us.

I'm not a person who complains easily, but feel after what we paid to stay here, the service was absolutely shocking, you would get better at a travel lodge.

The room was huge, nice views, could do with a little upgrading, but overall, clean and tidy, just what we needed.

The staff let this nice looking and well placed hotel down very badly and I would be pushed to recommend a stay to friends and family, unless it was a one or two night stay, where it was nothing more than a base and to use the leisure facilities.

Do not expect a welcome, a good bye or any staff service that reflects the price your paying.

Would sort this out #CoastAndCountry

We have just returned after staying here for a couple of days. Was very disappointed with the hotel, room was very basic, bathroom was smelly and felt the place was very run down. The staff didn't seem to know what they were doing and not very welcoming. We would not recommend or be back.

User

We had a terrible stay here folks; strongly advise giving it a miss, such a shame as it’s in a lovely location and has great potential, but it’s very poorly run and has the worst in house “entertainment” I have ever had the misfortune to experience..... hellish....couldn’t even escape it , as our room, which we had paid a “view charge “was directly above the offending social club karaoke singer. Feel like I paid to be tortured , then rudely dismissed by reception staff. Breakfast is an overpriced pre cooked buffet with all the finesse of a school canteen. Your average local council swimming pool is far superior to the hotel pool and facilities .A Poor and Sad reflection of Scottish Tourism, run by a Wigan bus tour company. SAD!

User

There is a stupidly noisy disco going on which we weren’t warned about when checking in. I called the reception at 10.40 to ask what time it is finishing because we are two floors up and can hear every word of every song). I was laughed at by the duty manager after I stated how unhappy I was that it is this noisy. He didn’t give a sh*t about it. We paid £129 to stay here, £30 for dinner. Bed is harder than a rock.

Hotel has many elderly guests; this is hardly fair on them

DO NOT STAY HERE (unless you bring earplugs)

User

Just home from a night out at Pitlochry Hydro. I have to say the staff are excellent, polite, and very attentive. However you pay your room up front which is never a good sign. The windows & frames are in dire need of replacement. Hotel is nice but dated, with good view from front rooms but need updating and some tlc. Poor lighting in room. Pool was really, really cold but sauna and jacuzzi were nice. Food was good but drinks very expensive. Rate of over £130 didn't include dinner or breakfast and it wasn't busy on a Saturday night. Very overpriced for what you get. Tonnes of parking tho!
