The Project Cafe

Today we handed over the helm to Davie, the new manager from Locavore. At this time of reflection we are endlessly grateful to Garnethill and the wider community of Glasgow for welcoming and sustaining us over the past 6 years. We hope that the café continues to flourish and provide nourishment for all. Thankyou to everyone who has created this place and for your kind words over the period of this transition. And of course, we are amazed and have deep respect for the incredible team that has been running this place - we love you and wish you the best in carrying forth the project. Come and visit us on our second last day as the project café! Please reassure yourself and others that the café is not closing ... fear not. The wonderful locavore are taking it under their wing as of next week, and will run it in a similar way as it has been! Look forward to seeing you!

Glasgow Community Food Network are hosting another informal meet up at the cafe on Thursday. It is free to attend and a great space to share ground with others who work in/are interested in the joys and challenges of community food! Share with folk you think might be interested.

how the sunshine changes everything.. and we have plenty up here on the balcony ☀️ there's some top pizza's flying out the pizza oven today, and 2 super fresh zesty salads...also got the student £1.50 filter coffee on the go!

Open Mic at The Project Cafe TONIGHT! The events programme that has been running over the past 6 years has been open source; folk come forth with proposals, we welcome them, they inhabit the cafe and host their projects in their own way. Open Mic is the only event that we actually run ourselves! So it feels like an important one tonight... Come and help celebrate the beautiful moments and connections that have occurred in this space, and help welcome the new ones as Locavore move in next month.

As we move into the next chapter of the cafe's life we are looking, with Locavore, to recruit a full time manager.

We are very excited to share some news with you all. Just before Christmas, we announced that The Project Cafe CIC is coming to an end, but we hoped that another organisation would step in and carry the project forward. And now we are delighted to let you know that the cafe will be continuing as part of Locavore! This hand-over feels like the natural and right thing to do, especially as the project café was originally begun as a collaborative, pop-up project with Locavore, al...ongside Tell it Slant poetry bookshop, six years ago.
We are all in agreement that the cafe runs fantastically as a warm and welcoming community space. Therefore, the cafe will continue to function in a similar way as it has been; the current wonderful team will continue, the rich community events programme will carry on, the menu and layout will not be subject to much change either. Locavore will respond to the needs of the cafe and the community as they move in. Small adjustments will be made along the way in order to maintain a thriving social enterprise.
The Project Cafe CIC will cease trading on the 29th of February 2020, and the Directors (Tiril, Eilidh and Dorian) will move on. Please note that the doors will be closed for one week (Sunday 1st - 8th March), to facilitate this transition. During this week we will work together on the handover, which will be carefully considered so that we can provide continuity and stability for the teams and the community. Please contact us if you need some more information, particularly if you host events with us and are thinking about future bookings.
Our gratitude goes out to Reuben and the rest of Locavore who have come forward to embrace the cafe and will now lead it onwards on its journey. We are also grateful for all of your support and kind encouraging words about the cafe and what it means to you! We are excited and curious about what this future might look like for the cafe, and hope that you are too!
