In case you missed it, this year the Scotch Whisky Experience turns 30! That's right, we've been helping the world fall in love with Scotch whisky from right here in Edinburgh since 1988.
A few weeks ago, a visitor from Germany brought in some leaflets collected by her parents whilst travelling in Scotland *before* we opened back in the 80s!
We couldn't resist sharing them with you...

Whisky heaven!

It’s nice that they show you how it’s made and display a large collection, a tasting glass. Then at the end there is a bar with every known whisky in the world.

I tried red, black and blue label of Johnnie Walker, I enjoyed it after being taught how to taste whisky. My new favourite is Bowmore aged 12 years, smoky, peaty taste of Islay.

User

What a wonderful experience, from the ride through the process to the virtual tour of the whisky regions, the incredible display of unopened bottles of whisky and the tasting at the end...this is well worth a visit...even if you're not a whisky drinker.

User

What a great time we had.

The guide was very knowledgeable and was able to answer my questions with confidence. The tasting whisky was not your usual brand names nor from recognised distillers so the tasting was genuine and down to the individuals pallet!

For the price paid a sampling glass and a map of the Scottish distillery locations was a poor return which could have been greatly enhanced if a miniature of a decent recognised malt had been included but over all I would give it 6 out of 10 for the experience!! You

We always have the most fantastic time at the Scotch Whisky Experience. We’ve done the Gold Tour a couple of times now and also did the Morning Masterclass during our last visit. Every tour has been incredible and it’s just increased our love of whisky every time we visit. As with the Amber Bar and Restaurant, the fact that all of the staff are so welcoming, knowledgeable and enthusiastic makes the experience all the more wonderful. We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone, especially to Michael who took our Morning Masterclass last February even though it was just the two of us who made it through the snow and there was a blizzard outside! We learned so much and just had a brilliant time thanks to Michael being so awesome. We can’t wait to return this month!

User

Visited for the “Taste of Scotland” tour. A wonderful evening, very well organized. Our guide, Rebecca (iirc) presented us with many informations without ever being boring. The tasting was very good. The dinner was delicious, our waiter funny and nice. No pressure whatsoever into buying stuff. 100% recommended.

User

Visited early afternoon on a Friday as part of my fiancées 30th birthday weekend. We went on the Gold Tour which included additional tastings and we weren't disappointed. The barrel tour was informative and interesting for a beginner like me, before being given more regional info from our lovely tour guide, Cody. We viewed the largest whisky collection in Scotland whilst sampling a regional single malt of choice. We then moved to the bar, which had a nice atmosphere, where we were given our additional four tastings which was nicely presented. We had an excellent couple of hours at the Experience and wouldn't hesitate to recommend. We exited a shade tipsy and giggled down he Royal Mile. A must if you visit Edinburgh.

User

Took a platinum tour together with 3 of my friends and it was amazing.

John was our guide and was very helpful with answering numerous of our question.

Went there following day at their Amber bar and bartender Andrew was very professional, friendly and knowledgeable about the whisky and the recommendation that he gives you regarding the dram will not dissapoint you at all.

For a whisky lover like me, I found heaven on earth.

Will visit this place again!!!

User

This was a truly great experience. Our guide, Sam, was perfect in every way! We took the platinum tour and we were very happy with our choice. Will probably come back again if we come back to Edinburgh in the future.

User

Thank you so much for the great experience. Great service, warm welcomes and friendly staff. Thanks you Becky for sharing your knowledge with us.

User

Pure pleasure! Heather our guide was terrific, she's very friendly professional.

Got a free glass at the end too I went for the 10am experience with every penny.

5 stars plus!

You won't be disappointed.

User

Only visited the Amber Bar in the basement. There you can taste whisky for a decent price. I'm quite new to scotch whisky and there are some names I'd like to try. In whisky shops you usually need an appointment to have a tasting which can be quite expensive. On the other hand, small tasting bottles sold there are a huge rip-off (seriously up to 10£ for Jura Origin...?). So, for spontaneous tasting the Amber Bar is the place to go. They offer a huge variety of Scotch whisky that can be selected from a menu with description. If you're not sure the staff is very helpful (thanks to Andrew R. who served us). Classic is a selection of four, served on a rack, either selected by you or a recommendation from the staff. Or you simply select one after one. We really enjoyed our stay.

User

I recommend registering for the Gold tour. It’s £27.00 but you get more tasting after the tour. I really liked this experience, it provided an excellent history on scotch and the different regions that make them. And it’s a 5 minutes walk from Edinburgh Castle. Definitely recommend this to all!

User

I had an amazing whisky tour. Everyone who loves whisky or wants to learn about whisky should do the tour. I really enjoyed the tour. We had a great guide. The tour itself and the whisky tasting is amazing.

User

Had a fabulous day yesterday. I never liked whiskey before but think I’ve found the type I like now. Thanks to Dale as well for an informative and fun tour round the museum. Highly recommend for a day out!

User

Great staff, well presented, very interesting, great guide through the tour. Even though I don’t drink was still good to visit and loved that I got the glass to keep.

User

Fantastic. All the staff lovely and the way they tell the story is very well done. Plus you get a generous shot of whisky (choice of 6) and the glass. Go.... you won't be disappointed.

User

Excellent little tour of how Whisky is made followed up by a taster experience, would love to come back and try the Masterclass experience as we didn't get to Edinburgh early enough. Top tip get there early or book in advance, it's worth every penny.

User

As someone from the States who loves Scotch whiskies, visiting Scotland has been such a pleasure to see the high availability and selection at every pub and store. The moment I stumbled into The Scotch Whisky Experience, though, I was wide-eyed and felt like a young child on Christmas Morning. This was, by far, the largest selection of Scotch whisky I have ever seen, both to purchase and bring home, as well as to try, drink and enjoy onsite at The Amber Whisky Bar right downstairs. All of the staff were unbelievably knowledgable about everything about Scotch whisky and gave some great recommendations. Highly recommend to any lover of Scotch whisky. A must visit, and I will be back with a fatter wallet.

User

Absolutely amazing! I've just done the Platinum Tour and was blown away with the enthusiasm and knowledge of our guide. And what a collection! The Claive Vidiz collection is a sight to behold for any whisky enthusiast (At 3500 bottles the biggest in the world)
