The Scottish Cafe & Restaurant

Absolutely 5 stars from security to the staff ..was doing a birthday party in the Scottish cafe...got a hand unloading my gear and got it taken down to the hall ...also the same at the end of the night...excellent staff and big thank you from myself and shields entertainment...

Maybe it was the time of day, but things were a bit off -- the salt shaker empty, the water glass unfilled, the burger looking rather forlorn served on a too-large plate. Happily it tasted delicious, but I left feeling like I'd unwittingly wandered into a party just as the hostess was trying to ease stragglers out onto the street. Oh well, never mind. It was a lovely day and a gorgeous view onto the changing colours of Princes Street Gardens.

Absolutely fantastic food, high quality ingredients cooked with real love for food. Lunch here was an absolute delight. Highly recommend the smoked salmon started, the venison main and the Edinburgh mess. Immaculate service.

Really nice place for lunch or something light. Food, cakes and coffee all good. Service was great and really well run overall expecially considering how busy it was.

We came for afternoon tea under the special 'friends' of the gallery deal. It seemed that due to us getting a discount under the scheme the staff treated us with contempt. They were exceptionally inattentive, it took 20 minutes to even receive our tea and when we did it was bitter and stewed. Unfortunately the quality of some of the items on offer weren't any better. The sandwiches were dry and were not flavoursome at all.

If you're looking for value, taste and courteous service - do not visit the Scottish restaurant.

Delicious platter for 2 with excellent soup in a mug, with bread, smoked salmon pate, Orkney oatcakes and salad! Lovely table by the window with views of Princes St Gardens and the Castle. Will be back!

We came for lunch just after Christmas.
Staff were friendly and helpful atmosphere warm and relaxed. Starters were good and tasty. Main courses not so good. Fish and chips both overly greasy and too much batter on fish. Cullen skink- cream with a few pieces of potato and fish.. Disappointing and over priced. Won't come again.
