About The Tudor Of Lichfield

A Tea House with a history built in 1510. Lichfield House is a grade 2* listed building and a very successful restaurant run by the same family since 1936.

The Tudor Of Lichfield Description

Lichfield House, the picturesque black and white half timbered residence built when Henry VIII, and Catherine of Aragon ruled England, now the Tudor of Lichfield, has watched over 500 years of England’s history.

The house itself has been added to from time to time, but the main building is the original.

Between 1643 - 1646 our Tea House was first a prison for captured Royalists who fell into the enemy’s hands during sortees from the Cathedral, and then the tables were turned, and the Roundheads in their turn found themselves chained in the cellars, and again in the last siege Royalists were imprisoned.

In more recent years Lichfield House has been a private residence, the offices of a coal merchant and a milliner’s shop. It was requisitioned for the Pay Corps in 1910 and in 1920 it became an antique shop. In 1936 Wilfred and Evelyn and their son Jeffrey opened the old buildings as The Tudor Café now better know as the Tudor of Lichfield.

We had all our food freshly prepared the sandwich filling you could pick yourself the scones were so delicious and fresh with clotted cream and home made choice of cake . The building is old world charm all through. X

The food is good and plentiful. The staff are very pleasant, and nothing seems too much trouble for them. The coffee is just right. The steak & kidney pies are homemade as are the scones. The scones are made to an original recipe and are lovely and fluffy. We will be going back!

I went recently to this restaurant I had a lovely meal and so did my all of my family I went with, couldn't of thought of a better place to take my family for lunch, the service was brilliant we had a young lady with blonde hair (didn't get her name) who went the extra mile for us, she had a good knowledge of the menu and checked on us though out our time there. I would highly recommend !

I love going to the Tudor never go to Lichfield without calling there for a meal very good food nice friendly staff only one thing wrong I think £1.65p for a small bread roll is far to expensive.

Lovely cream tea with home made scones! Would have liked to have had proper clotted cream, but it was a nice treat for my birthday wander around Lichfield!

Went yesterday with my husband . He had the full English breakfast and I had the Roast beef with horseradish sandwich . The breakfast came out with no fried egg and my sandwich came out with no horseradish sauce !!! The breakfast also came with toast and marmalade , the marmalade didn't come either by which time I couldn't be bothered to ask for it . The beef was lovely however, but all round disappointing and not good value for money . Wouldn't go again as there are better places to eat .

Our visit to The Tudor cafe wasn't the best place to have lunch. The young staff where very friendly, but the older staff not so friendly. The lady who came to us for our order didn't smile , had a handful of dirty plates in hand while taking our drinks & food order, . I orders cheese on toast , I got one slice with cheese & one plain toast , a little over priced for what we had ..

It's 2017, who on Earth doesn't take card payment?! For such a lovely building I had expected better. A little pricey for average quality food, and the coffee was fair-to-poor. A shame.

User

Disappointing visit this time - we sat for 10 minutes and even though waitresses came in and out, no one came to take our order - and there were only 3 tables taken!!!!

Normally fine - we my re review if we visit again!

User

Average I think based on the length of time it took to provide an afternoon tea. Beef in the sandwich was pink, which had been explained, but it was also tough which is less excusable. Despite the fact we had agreed that the drinks would be provided at the same time as the food, we had finished the drinks by the time the sandwiches and cakes arrived so we had to order more. Could have been better I think.

User

advertised a tea/coffee and toast or teacake. 3.25. Thought good. Only needed a snack. Then asked if required jam etc. Gave us bill. We had a very small jar of marmalade. Bill was 7.80. Charged me 1.30 for this. mega expensive. They were selling jars for 2.65.

User

Waited over 40 minutes for our meal, which would have been acceptable as it was quite (not manic but quite) busy. However, the faggots were tepid, not even luke warm, as was the veg, and so was the gravy. Simply unacceptable! To be fair, the lady at the till said there would be no charge at all (the capuccino was piping hot and very nice). We will think long and hard before we return again.

User

Very poor service nearly an hours wait for badly prepared food waitress insisted two dried up eggs were runny and so rude. The girl who attended us first seamed ok

User

Ordered prawn cocktail starter . when presented with my main meal steak and kidney pie I asked for my starter "do you want that first" ....my partner had scampi.. ...frozen chips frozen peas frozen scampi..and who serves white bread with prawn cocktail.. ..wont be back back.
