Wonderful location. Turn right and you are in historic Cambridge. Turn left and in one block, you are in lovely Jesus Green. What a find. Staff is terrific. Rooms are spectacular. Roof is the best for bellinis in the afternoon.

We booked a night at The Varsity at the last minute and we are so glad we did!! We had a lovely welcome at reception, the room was very comfortable, spacious and clean with all 'mod cons' - loved the two showers! The bbq lunch on the roof terrace was delicious and stunning! Our evening meal at the restaurant was perfect as well - also with a beautiful view. Great cocktails with a substantial drinks menu which is always good to have. The waitresses and waiters were easy to get on with and could have a laugh with them. We even popped into the spa the morning of departure which was good fun sitting in the hot tub watching people walk past the main window. Great location and had a fantastic weekend... Thank you!!

My husband and l stayed for a one night stay but increased to a two as it was so nice. They also upgraded us which was great, Staff very friendly and always willing to help. Loved the roof terrace...was a sunny night so great to get up there and enjoy! Had a meal in restaurant and again was very nice, a little expensive but very good. If we come back to Cambridge will definitely stay again. Thank you!

User

Brilliant location, the staff were kind and courteous. The roof top terrace was amazing and we will definitely go back.

User

User

Was a beautiful night......was my birthday when I went there.........the place is amazing, the food was good and the staff very kind!!

User

Lovely setting. Gorgeous room. Rooftop bar was fab. The staff were really attentive & helpful. We’ll be back for sure.

User

Lovely location with spectacular views of the City. It was very busy when we visited but drinks arrived quickly. Expensive but worth paying the extra for the experience

User

Just a quick drink in the sunshine, lovely setting staff all good. Double G&T bottle of lager £22.90 behave it's nice but not worth that!

User

Fabulous afternoon tea best I have ever experienced and loved the tea 😋 roof top terrace was amazing with fantastic views

User

Hotel decor is great and staff were professional and very welcoming-loved the car valet service. However, it was a very noisy hotel particularly from outside- passers by and very early morning deliveries and refuse collections. Not what we were expecting on a Saturday morning.

Hi

My stay was nice thank you, enjoyed the hotel a lot but there is a few things.

In the hotel description it says you have rooms offering a nice view but I had a view of offices straight across from window as well as requesting a balcony that was never given.

We then decided to go for a meal upstairs when the prices were extreme, I had paid for two steaks both recommended medium well, my girl friend then received her medium well steak basically raw; it was cold in the middle. And my girlfriend had refused to eat it and wouldn’t complain as she doesn’t like doing so, I did mention it to the waiter at the end of the meal but didn’t receive any discount on the meal.

We then went to bed, after having a lovely shower. My girlfriend removed the top pillow as she does not like 2 pillows and there was a long brown hair in between the pillows although we had not been into bed at all that day.

We also visited the spa that we was given a pass for. We didn’t get to use much as the jacuzzi was full for hours so we did not get to use it we only used the sauna.

In the morning we then decided to visit the breakfast that was provided. I had sat down for 20 mins then the waitress approached me and asked if we could get things together in 5 mins as they will be cleaning up.

Both time visiting the restaurant we was refused a seat next to the windows giving us a nice view as Came to Cambridge to see the nice views, we were refused due to the mess made on the table both night time and morning, so we had to sit in the middle of restaurant when all we could see was the kitchen and people enjoying the views there selfs.

I also paid for 2 cokes and had to pay 4.50 extra for a guy to come from 6th floor to 5th with is absolutely crazy.

I may return one day but not too sure there are plenty of hotels around Cambridge offering the same type of service which I may try due to this visit not being to successful, I will leave this comment on your trip advisor.

And would be thankful if I got something returned to me for the food and the hair found on the pillow.

Thank you

Had a drink at the roof top bar, great views, staff were very friendly and attentive. But!!! £12.50 for a glass of watery Pimms....your're having a laugh!

User

Went to the hotel for niece's Hen Party for afternoon tea. I've got to say it's the worst afternoon tea I have experienced. Everything was so manufactured. Sandwiches poor and never experienced coronation chicken like it, slices of processed chicken with a layer of sauce??? Cakes were like Mr Kiplings, from a box - poor. Tea choices and flavours lovely. Champagne - can't go wrong. Service adequate but 10% service charge, I suppose it's because it's Cambs. View fantastic. Need to go to The Lavenham Swan for Afternoon Tea £22.50 or The Goring in London for piece de resistance.

User

We had a table booked for 3 plus a baby with a pushchair. Whilst the afternoon tea was amazing we struggled with a place to put the pushchair. No advice or assistance was given. That made us feel awkward and in the way. There were more convenient tables available with more space around. We were not offered one. As we were left to sort ourselves out it made us feel unable to ask to be moved. Not child friendly

User

The location of the hotel was perfect and having paid the high price for a central Cambridge hotel we expected a good service. Although the staff were very friendly at reception, unfortunately when we got to our room we were very disappointed. The room was old and tired, furniture stained and chipped. It was as though we were given a room at the back that hadn't been updated or something as it was nowhere near the standard of the rooms pictured on the website or what family members who had visited had described.

The room view was of an alleyway, which wouldn't have been so bad but we kept up until the early hours of the morning by people standing out there drinking and smoking.

We did complain in the morning to which staff apologised. I probably should have complained when it was happening but we'd had such a lovely dinner out and I was being treated by my husband so I didn't want to complain and make it seem like I wasn't enjoying myself.

Upon leaving the security guard told us that it's an ongoing problem and if he's on duty then he moves them along. So, we were a bit gutted we didn't have him that night on duty!

There was a spectacular view at breakfast but sadly the breakfast service was very strange, we queued for a table but no one seemed to be being seated so eventually we asked if we could just sit down. Staff responded yes and we then queued again for the buffet which was underwhelming. Again this wouldn't have been a major issue but the fact that we were so disappointed with room just made everything else stand out!

We were desperately looking for something to make our experience better as my husband booked this as a treat for my 30th birthday and maybe that was the fact that we could use the sauna and jacuzzi in the spa next door as part of the deal. Although very small, it was a nice touch.

I don't usually write reviews and took me a long time to decide whether I should or not. But after being so bitterly disappointed after having wanted to stay here ever since I'd had drinks on the rooftop a few months previously, I couldn't not say anything as I feel (hopefully) our experience was unusual.

User

Loved the roof top bar and the view from the restaurant was fab but the food was disappointing to say the least. I had crab starter which came on half an iceberg lettuce! 45 minutes after finishing the starter our main course arrived (the restaurant was not busy). My main was deep fried chicken (like you can get from KFC) with a few tomatoes and a bit of rocket, luckily I ordered a side of chips. The service was excellent but the food is overpriced and uninspiring £120 for two with one bottle of wine. Also no desserts although I wouldn't normally have one some people prefer a dessert rather than starter. The food needs a rethink/overhaul to match the ambience, service and view

User

I went for a special meal with my partner and although the restaurant decor, atmosphere and view is fantastic- the food was a real let down. I had mussels to start and they were de-shelled! I’ve never known this before. It was bizarre. I then had a lovely steak for main (which came from the steak house next door, which I knew). This was cut up for me which again, was not ideal.

We had lovely drinks afterwards and the service was very good and attentive but for the price we paid, we were disappointed. There are much better restaurants (for great food) elsewhere in Cambridge. I won’t be returning to eat.

User

Food was poor and lacking in real flavour. very overpriced for what I expected to be a 5 star experience . Service good and cocktails great . Definitely won’t be back for food , would have been better off at Nando’s ...
