The Wee Kelpie

We stayed in Hellenburg and had learnt of the Wee Kelpie. A small establishment with large reputation for hand cut chips , cooked to order with fresh cod. (take away)
Large portions and food to die for with sweet mushy peas , .Monkfish and other speciality's were on the menutoo, Its a small (Plaice)so there may be a wait so bait your hook and enjoy.

My favourite place for fish and chips in H’Burgh. One of the few places that also do gluten free batter.

I only visit Helensburgh once a year but make a point every time of visiting this smashing wee chippy. Really well cooked. Great tastes and unusual but tasty menu. I mean where else can you buy battered monkfish!

Light batter, lemon bish bash bosh. Plus they do Gluten free if required. Would recommend much better than that green lido place, worth the walk (westward from the car park, approx 75 doors down from Lido).
I've got a mate that works at that nuclear navel base down the road. But he's having tough time. He's always really tired, he's not sleeping. So I was like "mate you need to get out of the faislane!"

This little chippie is worthy of quite a long journey for our family. We have to travel for 1 hour to get to this place but it's worth the trip. We travel from east ayrshire to Helensburgh. The cod and chips with a tub of tartare sauce and a wee slice of lemon just melts in your mouth. The batter on the fish feels very light in your mouth and the chips are nice and chunky and crisp. Never had a bad dinner from here and you don't get that greasy feeling in your mouth after your fish and chip supper. The curry sauce is also very good. I would highly recommend this little award winning place.

It's easy to see why this fish and chip shop has won awards. The fish and chips were excellent. They also have some gluten free options, including haddock or cod on gluten free batter (and cooked in seperate oil).

Commitment to top quality fish which is commendable, but unfortunately let down by heavy greasy batter and chips. nice to see biodegradable packaging .

Lovely fish and chips, cooked to order in arou nd 5 minutes, boxed with a slice of lemon. Superb; and the staff were very pleasant too. It's a ten from Len!. (My name's actually Nick but that didnt have the same ring to it!)

Just bought a fritto misso £ 7.....a few chip's three prawns in batter..a few squid ring's that were rubbish (coating all fell off)..scallop was ok...and a TINY bit of fish... Owners obviously just watching the cash.. Used to be good.. But same old trap...eye's on the profits and off the ball..#disappointing

Some of the best fish and chips in the West of Scotland, reportedly. Unfortunately they don't use vegetarian-friendly oil.

Fantastic fish and chips. Double fried beef batter chips and homemade tartare - what more could you ask for.

Best chippie in Scotland! Food is cooked to order so expect a short wait. Small indoor and outdoor seating area too.
