The Wee Schoolroom Description
Dates Employed - Sep 2014 – Present Employment Duration 5 years. Location - Newtown Saint Boswells, Scottish Borders
Drawing upon many years of working with Dyslexics from P. 1 to Adult, I aim to provide practical support for developing strategies which can greatly enhance success levels in all areas of literacy.
Key to the success of my work is my ability to use, not only my specialist knowledge and teaching skills but also a sense of humour. I aim to make the experience of learning those subjects which my students passionately dislike, A LOT OF FUN!
My part-time work at THE WEE SCHOOLROOM is mainly with Dyslexic students but I have also worked with adults who present with Dyslexic-type symptoms caused by significant gaps in their early learning due to ill health.
Following a brief period of assessment, I bring to my teaching a wealth of tried and tested skills and resources which I use to develop an individualised programme of work informed by the specific needs of each learner. Students are given full 1 - 1 attention and a comprehensive record of work is made available after each session.
As a parent of two successful, Dyslexic, children (now adult), I am also well known locally as a competent assessor for Dyslexic difficulties from P1 to adult students. This means that I am able to relate to the difficulties faced by parents of Dyslexic children - it's not easy!
Whether my students are aged 6 or 60, the most important part of my job is to care HOW THEY FEEL! .
