Well, today has turned it to a day of mainly releasing/structural massage. Some of you requested really quite light. Some really deep...which is fine as long as I keep it soft, no elbows, no sharp clashes of bone against bone because that just feels yuk and interupts your focus on ✨ RELEASING✨ those tissues and those thoughts you no longer need. To be honest, this style of massage used to scare me silly, I used to think it was all about strength and pressure. Now I think differently. For me it's more about movement, my weight falling the agreed depth into your tissues and patience...that's when the power comes through...all in good time.

Mental health awareness week. I was having a conversation about this issue a few days ago with a friend. Working from home can be very isolating. It's really important to find a balance and find time for regular breaks, getting out, being around others and generally meeting people. https://www.theguardian.com/…/extreme-l oneliness-or-the-per…

Working with clients who have complicated conditions can be really challenging and, at times, daunting as a massage therapist. Two Fridays a month I have the privilege of clinic time in Dumfries working with my clients from the Multiple Sclerosis Support Group. I love every minute of it as it pushes me out of my comfort zone and keeps me finding new ways to make my massage work in a limited time for individual clients. Yesterday I offered side laying massage to a couple of... clients who love, love, love back massage but really struggle with feeling comfortable laying on their front and getting off the table. It went really well, some great outcomes and they arose off the table with ease. I think they actually preferred it because they reached a level of comfort they probably couldn't achieve before. Sometimes it's the simplicity that makes something so powerful.

I've had a great week. This quote kind of sums it up because it really hasn't been a good week for ease and flow...but wow, I have made some great connections with people. We can't force that stuff. We either fit together or we don't. I've had some wonderful feedback and texts this week from clients who felt stuck before their session. We work well together and have the same focus...for them to take ownership of their wellness. Not pass it over to me. I love having those conversations with people when it feels simply like you know them well, and exactly what makes them tick. Those moments are priceless. Always make space in your life for the people who energise you and who you feel at ease with. 🙌💗🙌

As your bodywork therapist, how can I 'fix' you? I don't have control over the decisions you make that cause your body to respond in the way it does....your shoulders that tense up when you get anxious about family or financial concerns? Or the old glute injury agrivated by pushing yourself to run 15km when your body should be resting and recovering? Life happens, how we respond to it is the key. As a therapist, rather than be an expert, I focus on you taking ownership of ...your wellness. Over the years I've learned massage really well,. My role is to give you the space you need, to encourage you to notice how you are responding. How at ease you are, how your tissues soften, how your body moves with me, how your movements flow with mine, or not. I notice all these things without judgement. I meet you where you are. I do not force you to let go, that is utterly pointless to your recovery as the injuries will return, or your body will realign and compensate by tearing somewhere else. This will keep happening until you start listening to your body. Patience is part of this process because you only let go when you are ready. We are more complicated than cars that need tuning up and fixing by a mechanic. We are made of organic tissue, memory and emotions. No one else knows more about you than you do. Always take ownership of yourself. There are many amazing therapists who who work with you not on you, they encourage you to be kind and patient with yourself. These therapists are gold dust.

😍 Be SURE you don’t miss out on the content I offer & hop on my email list. My emails are sent every 2 weeks, I promise not to be annoying and spammy 🤙 and I will never share your email with anyone else. 💗📩💗 😎 There's not much of vibe around Facebook for my page ATM, despite shares by you lovely lot (I really appreciate that) FB have said “We expect organic distribution of an individual page’s posts to gradually decline over time…” And a Facebook spokesperson said, “the best way to get your stuff seen if you’re a business is to pay for it.” 😮 So, this means you may not receive my content anymore via the Facebook page because it doesn’t make sense for me to pay Facebook to send you my posts. Here's the link 💗📩💗 https://www.therapyroomannan.com/blog

After a massage sometimes a client asks how I know what to do throughout a treatment, because it felt so right to them....how or why did I go to the base of their spine at the moment they needed me to. I've been told I'm naturally Intuitive, and I'm not sure what that actually means to other people. I know what it means to me. I believe it's about noticing and reading people, however small the clues, and being sensitive to them. Years ago, out of lack of confidence and f...ear of just going with the flow, I would do a routine based along the stuff I was taught in my swedish or aromatherapy massage training. My confidence grew over time, but there would always be that feeling, the doubt in my mind that my work is not deep enough, not powerful enough, skilled enough. 6 years ago I completed my advanced training in No Hands Massage and over the years I've learned ways to only give the treatment I and my client agreed to (this avoids me being distracted through the massage with concerns about getting it right). If I can focus on what I am doing, keep myself calm and comfortable, I can really notice how you are responding. How at ease you are, how your tissues soften, how your body moves with me, how your movements flow with mine, or not. I might also notice areas of heat and cold throughout your body, your pattern of breathing. I notice all these things without judgement. I am here to meet you where you are. Patience is part of this process. I cannot force you to let go. You do it when you are ready. And lastly, I always ask you what you are noticing about yourself. Because it only matters what YOU take from your treatment. And it matters that you are noticing, so you can keep hold of it if you wish.

I trundled down to Manchester yesterday to my No Hands master support session in my new little car 😍 I love training. It scares me silly sometimes. It pushes me out of my comfort zone and challenges me to have my work seen and my massage to be felt by very talented professionals in my field. It's great development for me to revisit training to deepen my knowledge and skills. It's really important to learn new skills, but even more important to take what skills I have t...o a higher level. I trained in Side Laying Massage several years ago and I use it a lot in my clinic with pregnant clients. I spent yesterday perfecting it, feeling it as my clients do and developing it for clients with sciatica, back pain, any one who has issues laying on their front or their back for a treatment. The beauty and value of side laying massage is the feeling of utter comfort it gives you. I really didn't want it to end yesterday when I felt it. I was totally blissed out.
