About Ting Thai Caravan

Ting and Ae Tapparat first fired up their woks at the Edinburgh Festival in 2012 with authentic Thai street food for the festival masses. It was a hit. Soon after they secured a small restaurant in the University quarter.

Yum! I’m coeliac and they were really good about asking the kitchen questions - thanks guys! Also super quick during busy festival season.

We stopped by at the restaurant to get directions and Sabrina the waitress was sooooo nice and super helpful. Because of her being so welcoming we decided to stay and eat there and were beyond happy with the soups and the vegetable pad Thai we ate. Thanks Sabrina you were great!!! Amazing customer service and you deserve to be recognized!

We eat at Ting Thai every time we visit the city and love it. Food is always packed with depth of flavour, curries are delicious as is the sticky pork (Moo Yang) I am always torn on what to choose off the menu! The service is fast paced, but we’ve always found staff efficient and friendly. I can not understand the negative reviews from people who obviously miss the point. Yes it’s shared tables, yes it’s more of a quick ‘in and out’ for a bite of some awesome food before/after drinks kind of place, but it doesn’t masquerade as anything else. You can see the queue to get a table, you can see the shared tables, you can see the very realistically priced menu outside...why then be surprised when it delivers quick street food dishes, in an informal, stripped back setting. Or be surprised when it gets busy in Fringe time?! If you want refined dining, pick one of the many places in the city that offer that and pay for the privilage, it’ll free up tables at Ting Thai for us folks who get it and really enjoy it!

Tidy food at great prices perfectly presented and served by nice warm welcoming staff defonetly a 5 star 💫 from me T.Cameron 👌

The food is excellent and if you don't mind sharing tables and having a casual meal then this is the place for you. I've always found the staff helpful even when busy and they have always been welcoming and great with my kids. They happily cook up some off-menu chicken fried rice for my youngest every time we go.

User

One word , Yum! And I don't even eat Thai food...or so I thought :)

User

No you cant book a table, yes sometimes you have to wait outside for a table, but for approx. £6 a meal, WTF do you want. Awesome as usual

User

Found this right outside UOE, small restaurant with a lively energy, good fast service and great flavors !

User

Food is always fantastic, staff are always lovely, prices are always very reasonable.

If you want mechanical service and space to spread out then head to some chain restaurant out of town, and people should know better than to complain about it being packed during the fringe.

User

Excellent service from the minute we walked in the door. Food was brilliant & reasonably priced.

User

Divine flavours, generous, fresh... fabtastic place for swift quality food on the town...

User

Coolest Thai food experience in Edinburgh .. Staff are always friendly and go the extra mile..The food =outstanding Kids love it.. Adults love it.. 10/10

User

Cheap with good portion size. Main meals come in boxes that can be taken awaySoup bowls large and tasty. Remember to tell them to limit or leave out the chilli if you don’t like too spicy.

Water on tap but also coke beer and cider. Drinks are quite expensive so be careful

Simple but tasty menu

User

Awesome place, great atmosphere, delicious Thai food and swift friendly service !

User

Absolutely loved this restaurant, yes we waited for a table, yes we shared table, but atmosphere was lovely, staff very attentive, if you want an intimate candle lite meal, this place not for you, but whole experience for us was about the food, can't wait to go back, could have eaten everything on menu

User

Absolutely amazing food. Had an assortment between the two if us as couldn't choose and so glad we did. Absolutely faultless. Obviously had to have a Singh beer as the perfect accompaniment. Don't come if you want pampered and fine wine come if you want amazing authentic Thai food and you won't be disappointed.

User

Bad service, rude waitresses, long wait for food, food was average.

If you like being told "you can't sit there" and "You can only sit here, but I'll probably make you move midway through your meal", then you'll love this place.

They won't even refill your water jug for you.

Having sat exactly where directed, another waitress comes over mid-meal and tells me "You're sitting in wrong chair. You were supposed to sit in that other chair." When we sat down, there were people sitting there. What a joke.

This is the most stressful place I've ever been to eat.

User

Total shambles, we were made to wait outside in the cold in February for 25 mins before seated with another couple at the same table. Total lack in alcohol choices and didn’t like that the wine was served in a water tumbler-trying to hard to be hipster.

The food was terrible, chicken was dry, curry was gloopy and tasteless, squid was inedible and the pork balls were not a good flavour combination at all. We barley ate anything and weren’t even asked once how the food was or checked up on at all for that matter. In the end we had to get up to find a server to pay before getting the hell out. I won’t be recommending this place to anyone, quite the opposite.

User

Table system-be aware!!!

Girl at the door was rude and lied to us.We asked for able for 4.She said nothing is available ,we waited and waited outside. However it was 4 empty places on the table along the window. So we asked to seat there. She said she'll ask manager, she never got back to us,we continued waiting...I asked again and she told that it is only for solo eaters and we cannot use it.

However it was 3 girls eating at this long table clearly together.why did she lie to us????

We just left.
