Toadstool Tots Description
Hello and welcome to Toadstool Tots. My name is Dee and I’m a lover of all things vintage and handmade. I’m a self-taught seamstress, and I’m also a designer and maker for my own botanical jewellery brand - The Butterfly and Toadstool.
I started Toadstool Tots in 2017 as I needed a separate space for this side of my business to grow. During this time my direction has since turned back towards my very first love - our environment and its sustainability.
You see, I’ve always been a nature buff (you just have to look at my jewellery to see that! ) I studied Animal Biology and Conservation at University in Edinburgh. Although I’ve been a full-time self-employed designer since 2012, my roots are still firmly involved with the welfare of our planet and everything that lives /grows here. That’s why I’m combining these important factors with my love of vintage to create a children’s clothing brand that I’m truly proud of.
Inspired by traditions, each piece is created and handmade to last as well as being beautiful and sustainable. I source vintage and recycled fabrics from local outlets to ensure they are given a second chance and to prevent them from being put to waste. And I also use recycled buttons, trims and other materials in my designs which helps to make them extra special and sometimes truly unique.
With this in mind it does mean that quantities and sizing are always limited, but hey, that’s Slow Fashion for you! I think this adds to the charm of having gorgeous designs especially made for your little Tot, and hopefully they will be cherished for years to come.

Carrying on with the skirt theme, look at this fabulous commission piece!! I've had the privilege of working with this stunning fabric before, it's designed and created by Emily's Designs, but this time I teamed it with navy lace and a little tartan bow. Emily's artwork is inspired by her farming background and surrounding countryside, and she's used her illustrations to create this one of a kind fabric. (unfortunately its not for sale, but let's all bask in its gorgeousness!) 💙🐮💚

I've always loved intricate work. My designs for both my children's wear and jewellery are often very fiddly, but I really enjoy this side of making. I hand finish every item of clothing and I think it makes them extra special! 💙🧵👗

Reducing waste ♻️
Sometimes I'm not sure if it's a gift or a curse, but I just can't throw things away!!! I keep all my scraps, and then the scraps of scraps and use them for tiny jobs like covering buttons, making cards and even some gorgeous new designs that are coming soon!!

Another prompt from #marchmeetthemaker was Product Range. Toadstool Tots is home to all of my children's clothing, gifts and accessories. I hand make dresses, skirts, waistcoats, bow ties, hair bows, sun hats, personalised name plaques and even party decor. I love making items extra special and also love to work on commissions for special events and occasions too.
