About Toast Leith

Wine cafe opening July 2017 on The Shore.

Toast Leith Description

Toast is Leith's first wine cafe located at The Shore. Offering a casual coffee, wine & food experience, Toast celebrates the pure enjoyment of eating & drinking with friends.

Open 7 days from early until late, serving simple yet imaginative food alongside a carefully curated, predominantly, biodynamic, organic & natural wine list.

Located in a former art gallery, Toast brings a unique cafe destination to The Shore. The place to meet friends for warm conversation.

At Toast we serve food throughout the day including delicious breakfast and brunch dishes like huevos rancheros, shakshuka and avocado toast with poached eggs, lunches of nutritious homemade soup, sourdough sandwiches and salads, and later on in the day, a selection of smaller plates with a Mediterranean influence. At our deli counter, you’ll find a selection of irresistible artisan cakes and pastries, available all day. Some of our dishes are vegan, many are vegetarian. We always have at least 2 choices of gluten-free cake (until it sells out! ) and we have non-dairy milks for coffees.

Our wonderful head chef Lizzie Arber is currently developing a new menu with her team, and we will share here as soon as it’s available.

The ancient Greeks made pancakes way back in the 5th century. We like them like this (also served with crispy bacon & maple syrup:) Come and get em 😊 #toastleith #winecafe #saturday #brunch #placetogo #pancakes #huevosrancheros #juice #coffee #edinburgh #scotland

Seli first worked in a Wine Bar that her brother ran in Tel Aviv. She wanted to expand her knowledge in wine so went to live and work in New York. After a few years of hitting the bars there she travelled to London, where she eventually managed Vinoteca Marylebone branch. Four years ago she came to Edinburgh, fell in love with the city, bought a house & settled down. Her passion for food & wine is infectious, and at Toast she has created one of the best lists in the city. It’s been a year in, and quite a ride. Happiness, she says, comes on unexpectedly, but mostly in a glass. Let’s talk about it sometime.

Meet Argiris who’s been part of our team since April. He arrived from Athens back in February. Coming from the Mediterranean he’s extremely passionate about food & drink and dreams of one day becoming The World Barista Champion. His favourite drink is Freddo Espresso and can’t get enough of watermelons, which is why we added one to our fresh juice list. Argiris is also a big fan of football and is convinced Greece would have won the World Cup had they qualified 😂 #toastleith #winecafe #winebar #coffeeshop #latterart #greece #worldcup #placetobe #edinburgh #scotland

We went here today for lunch, the staff were so nice and friendly and the food and coffee were so good. Thank

Visited toast in Leith. I’ve read a few reviews since.. all I can say is I really enjoyed the food & the coffe. The sourgh dough was nice (btw if you go to the bakers for £3.50 loaf be mindful of the almond croissants at £3.40, they are not worth that..

Anyhow the Toast menu was thoroughly enjoyable dnd we finished off with a cheeky little cake which was lovely. I also went to buy some coffee beans from the sister cafe, around the corner, which looked equally nice. A word for the staff, no complaints and attentive and informative 👌😀

User

Very nice food and fast, friendly service. Overlooks the Water of Leith so a good view too!

User

The best place for breakfast/brunch in Edinburgh! I cannot wait to try their evening cheeseboards!

User

Pleasant staff serving really good food in a nice location. It's a winner all round.

User

Lovely and friendly customer service, nice coffee and environment! Thanks Argyris for looking after us!

User

Lovely afternoon spent sitting outside in the sun drinking wine. Great quality wine selection with knowledgeable staff. The frites with bearnaise sauce and fried padron peppers where delicious. Nice to have such a relaxed place to go for a drink. Felt very continental. Great addition to Leith's cafe/bar scene. We'll be back.

User

Loved it poached eggs with smoked bacon on sourdough

Service every thing very good

Will be back

User

I’ve been first time there and I highly recommend at top 3 : ) in Edinburgh. I had for breakfast 2 sliced bread with guacamole and feta and a bit of nicely marinated salad and for drink a nice double cappuccino.. Very kindly stuff, fast service, nice presentation of food.. nice spot in town to chill and enjoy your breakfast/lunch or why not and your dinner with a nice glass of wine!!!! : )

User

Great vibes and service. Nice little range of wines by the glass including a blaufrankish and gamay loire..tapas by evening and brunch by day. I would ask for more natural/raw wines to add interest. Defo and great locals hanging spot to catch up with friends

User

Great cocktails, nice selection of wines, very good food and excellent service!

User

Fantastic food, the chef clearly knows his stuff! Great deals on food, Coffee great quality, organic wine at almost supermarket price for a bottle. Couldn’t have wished for better service. left my bag and long before I would have realised I didn’t have it, it was returned to me by a kind member of staff who quickly caught up with me as I strode off home-clearly concerned. Can’t wait to return! Thank you team Toast

User

A fantastic new gem in heart of Leith - without a doubt the best smashed avocado & poached eggs Ive had in a long time this side of Australia!! Excellent coffee, funky interior and lovely jazz tunes & the owner Zak is very friendly - plus lots of power sockets for working too! My new regular go to place & can wait for summer to enjoy the outdoor seating and glass of bubbles as this place has a European feel to it by the water , :-)

User

Went on Friday afternoon a couple of weeks ago after waiting for this wine café to open at last. Nice airy space but with all the upper windows open it was quite cold. The bar stools along the window have no back support, which is a big minus in my book. Wine is really expensive at £6.50-£10 fir 175 ml. They probably have to charge so much to pay the wages of all that staff - no less than 5 staff for approx. 20 patrons.

Verdict: Very disappointing. Won't rush back.

User

Went here for coffee and cake. Good coffee, cake a bit dry and at £4.50 a slice (!) not worth the money. Service was v slow, despite there being five or six staff behind the counter, and the bar not being full of customers. In fact the couple on the next table walked out before they got served their drinks. Nice place, weird concept - wine bar meets cafe, which means there are loud groups drinking alcohol and families having a treat out. Will not be hurrying back here with other local places better value, friendlier and quicker service.

User

Visited today for a quick lunch and the waitress said my food would be 20-25 minute wait for avocado on toast, after waiting almost 40 minutes I told another member of staff i had been waiting a while and her response was you were told about the waiting time and I replied saying yes 20 minutes not 40 minutes , she then went to check on my food and never came back and seemed very uninterested. 10 minutes the waitress came and apologised for my wait and offered me a drink on the house but I declined, my food then arrived within 5 minutes and it was very nice just a shame about the almost hour wait that made me late for my plans. I asked for the bill and had to pay full price £7.50 for my food after my hour long wait, very disappointed and do like the cafe and food just a shame about the service. Would have thought they would at least offer a discount to my bill or have it on the house.

User

I have been here on three occasions to give a local business my support. Food has always been great however service has unfortunately let it down. Today I went for breakfast, I was quickly greeted with "are you in for drinks? If so you can't sit at that table as it is only for food!" This was not the friendly welcome I was looking for, I did decide to stay for breakfast which was delicious however I feel that from now on I will be giving Toast a miss.

User

Went here for a glass of wine last weekend! Found the service a bit abrupt and rude to start with but realise that the place was busy. We were told to take a seat after we ordered and we waited over 20 minutes but did not get anything! We walked out and went to the bar next door where they could not have been nicer to us! We are local and were looking for a new regular place to go for brunch - we will not be back here as felt more an inconvenience to staff than a valued customer.
