To help those patients who find it difficult to contact us to book an appointment with a GP when our phone lines open at 08:30, we are now making some of our on-the-day GP appointments available for booking on-line through the Patient Services facility. These appointments become available for booking after midnight each day, and patients registered for the Patient Services on-line facility will be able to book these from any time after then.
As a significant proportion of our... patients do not have access to the internet or are not registered for the Patient Services facility, we are only making a limited number of our same day GP appointments available in this way. Once all the on-line appointments have been booked, patients will need to contact reception on 01875 610697 from 08:30 to book an appointment.
Details of how to register for Patient Services are available on our website or by contacting reception.

Advance Appointments - Service Suspension
Tranent Medical Practice is withdrawing its advance booking service for GP appointments, until further notice.
This step is being taken as a result of an on-going shortage of GP’s within the practice, which is due to a combination of sickness and recruitment issues. The difficulty in recruiting GP’s is a nationwide issue which has been covered in the media recently, and is not just affecting Tranent.
... From Monday May 20th we will be offering GP appointments on a same-day basis only. Patients wanting to see a GP will need to contact us on the day they wish to be seen. Patient safety remains our highest priority, and the practice would like to assure our patients that anyone who has a medically urgent issue will continue to be dealt with in an appropriate time scale.
We are continuing to provide advance bookable appointments with our Practice Nurses, Health Care Assistants and phlebotomist. The suspension of the advance booking service applies to GP appointments only.
We very much regret having to take this step, as we understand that many patients prefer the convenience of being able to book appointments in advance. However, the circumstances that we are currently facing make it impossible for us to provide this service. We are working to resolve our GP resourcing difficulties, both in the short and long term, and our intention is to restore the advance appointment service as soon as circumstances allow.

Due to continuing supply problems with the Fluad flu vaccine for over 75's we are not going to be able to vaccinate any patients in this age group at our session on Saturday 10th November.
We expect to receive further supplies of this vaccine next week, and patients aged 75 and over who are still to receive their flu vaccination should contact Reception to make an appointment to receive theirs.
We do have adequate supplies of the flu vaccines for patients aged under 75.

Our Patient Group is looking for new members.
The Patient Group works co-operatively with the practice to help improve the delivery of medical services to our patients. It reflects the views of patients when looking at potential changes to services with the practice, and by doing so helps ensure that the patient perspective is considered and taken account of.
The group meets every couple of months, normally on a Wednesday afternoon.
... If you are interested and would like to find out more, contact Business Manager Ian Bruce at the practice.

We are running two Saturday flu vaccination clinics this year, on 3rd and 10th November. The clinics will run from 08:30 to 12:00, and are for adults in the following 2 categories:
(1) Those aged 65 and over on 1st September (2) Those aged 18 to 64 who have received a letter from the practice inviting them for a flu vaccination.
... No appointment is necessary; these are open clinics, so just come along on either of these mornings at a convenient time.
Please note that these clinics are not for children; parents of eligible children should contact Reception to arrange a vaccination appointment.
Eligible adults unable to attend either of these clinics should contact Reception to arrange a vaccination appointment on another date. Note that all other flu vaccination appointments will be during normal health centre opening hours.

Our on-line services have changed. Vision have replaced their on-line services with a new and improved version, called Patient Services. This is optimised for use with tablets and smartphones, and provides an improved user experience.
Patients who use on-line services to order repeat prescriptions and book appointments will need to create an account on Patient Services when they next access the system. It's easy to do this - just log onto on-line services as before, and follow the instructions. Note that there is enhanced security requirements within Patient Services, and you may need to create a new user ID and password if your existing ones are not deemed secure enough.
There's more information about this, including full instructions, on our website.
