Through practical activities and events we help local individuals and groups minimise their impact on the planet and live happier, more sustainable lives

Transition University Of St Andrews Description

Transition University of St Andrews is part of the UK-based Transition initiative. Transition operates within community groups on a grassroots level, founded and operated by the communities themselves, in response to the threats of climate change and peak oil.

The Transition initiative at the University was launched in 2009 by a group of students and has since gained momentum, with both academic and non-academic staff being involved, as well as local residents.

We work within the University and local community running carbon reduction projects in response to the threats of climate change and peak oil. Through practical activities and events suggested by people within our community, we help individuals and groups minimise their impact on the planet, become more self-sustaining, and strengthen community ties.

In 2012 the group was awarded funding from the Scottish Government’s Climate Challenge Fund for the second time, allowing us to employ a mixture of full time and part time staff to work with and for staff and students on specific identified projects in four key transition areas – energy, waste, transport and food.
