If your boiler needs reset once, that is fine. If it needs reset again, its annoying. If you find yourself resetting your boiler a lot, monthly, weekly, daily!! get a gas safe engineer in to take a look (Your boiler is trying to tell you something). I visited a property this week after a home owners boiler stopped working. I was advised that it had been needing reset more and more frequently over the last 6mths but that morning it just didn't come back on. It turned out that the seal around the heat exchanger/burner box had perished, resulting in heat and/or flames escaping which led to ignition and fan wiring damage but could have been a lot worse. This was probably going on for the whole 6mths. Please don't ignore the signs. From pictures, you can see the heat/flame damage, soot marks and the ash deposits inside the boiler.

The importance of getting an annual gas service check undertaken is shown with these pics. The home owner called and asked me for a service, unaware that the gas line had ruptured due to corrosion of the copper pipe and gas had filled the void beneath his house. There was no smell of gas and boiler, cooker and fire were all working fine. This was a major incident waiting to happen. Just because you can't smell gas and everything looks OK, it doesn't mean that everything is OK. Get me or any other gas engineer in to check your appliances. An annual gas service is a small price to pay for the safety of your and your family.
