“When I was growing up, I really wanted to be a professional golfer. Unfortunately I injured my knee a few years ago, so had to reconsider my career. I’m so glad that I ended up in this industry, though. I've been here since November last year. I think the best thing about working at The Buttery is the team up in the kitchen. We all get on really well, and the camaraderie is essential so I make a real point of trying to cheer people up when they come into work feeling low.”
Wise words for this week's 'Spotlight On' from our Commis Chef, Kyle MacFarlane!

Due to a last minute cancellation, our private dining room, Snug, is available this evening. Any takers for tonight for a table of six and above will receive a free bottle of fizz on us!

It's a whirlwind of ideas, fresh produce and exciting flavours today in our kitchen, with the team upstairs busy experimenting in anticipation of our new menu - we reckon this delish salmon dish is definitely a keeper!
Pan fried fillet of salmon, served with a smoked haddock, cheese and leek cannelloni, finished with keta and a minted pea puree... Yum!

Our 'Spotlight' this week is on our front of house supervisor, Helen Boyd - having worked with us for nearly three years, we are sure that she will be a familiar face to many of you!
"I've worked in restaurants since I was sixteen, and decided to pursue a career in the hospitality industry after graduating from Stirling Uni a few years ago. I love The Buttery and it's timeless elegance, it's a real pleasure to work in such a gorgeous environment. My meal of choice here would start with a drink in the cosy armchairs at the bar - you can't beat a glass of bubbly before dinner! Then I'd definitely go for the halibut served with fennel pesto, it's my favourite fish and the kitchen cook it to perfection. Quite lovely!"

Our tumble dryer may be on the blink, but luckily we can make the most of our sunny garden and hang our washing up outside! . . . #nofilterneeded #thebuttery #kiltlife #sunnyglasgow #sunnyanderston #ecofriendly #glasgowsummer

Today we shine our Spotlight on a member of staff who is, sadly, leaving us this week. Ilaria (Ila) Mascanzoni has been with us for a couple of years, and is returning to her hometown in Italy.
"I love The Buttery, and I'll love it forever. It's the people who make the venue what it is, and they are like another family to me. I moved to Glasgow after a number of years travelling, and it has been my home for quite some time now. However, the time has come for me to begin my next chapter!"
Ila will certainly be greatly missed by both our team and our guests - best wishes for the future from all of us!

User

"I first started at The Buttery as work experience for my college course, two nights a week, and was happy to take on a part time position once the placement came to an end. Since then, I've juggled my role in the kitchen alongside my studies, and have been working full time since my exams finished a couple of months ago. I love this industry, and it's great to have an insight as to what happens back of house - I think long term I'd love to travel and work in different countries and in different roles, but we'll see what happens!"
All of Jodie Young's hard work over the past few years has paid off, as she graduates from Edinburgh Napier University today with a BA (Hons) in Hospitality Management. Congratulations, Jodie!

This week, our 'Spotlight' is on Ross Hunter, another part time member of our team. Ross, who studied Applied Bioscience and Zoology at university, has worked with us since he was 21.
"This was my first job, and I can't believe it's nearly been two years that I've been working at The Buttery - the time has flown by. One of my favourite things about it is that you are always meeting new people from different backgrounds, be it new members of staff or our guests in the restaurant. It really opens up your eyes to a bigger world view. At the moment, my song of choice to listen to on the way to work is 'Another One Bites The Dust' by Queen - it's great for getting me into a positive frame of mind for a busy evening shift!"

Wishing a very happy 150th birthday to Glasgow's favourite son, Charles Rennie Mackintosh! I'm sure he'd be proud to see the city celebrating him in such style today. The Buttery building has been there since 1869 - we are wondering if CRM ever dined at The Buttery? We are sure he'd have loved it! #Mackintosh150

Our 'Spotlight On' this week features one of our weekend warriors, Ross Sales, who works part time alongside studying a course in guitar building. "I grew up in Italy, quite near Milan. Both of my parents are British, so I decided to move here when I left high school to study music. I didn't know very many people aside from my family and I was so shy, so when I was offered the opportunity to work at The Buttery I jumped at the chance! I've been here for nearly two and a half years now, and absolutely love it - I've learned so much and really come out of my shell. As for my favourite dish? I'll always recommend the Fish of the Day, especially when it's sea bream. It's meatier than most fish and so tasty by itself, but when the kitchen combine it with their sauces and spices - it makes an outstanding choice."

Where to start ... I’m no food critic but I am a foodie . I also consider myself to be a good judge of a quality Restaurant having been well travelled and sampled some amazing food along the way .

The service from start to finish was 1st class , the staff were polite and very professional . Interior was superbly decorated with a historic vintage Scottish theme and ambiance was perfect .

The food was amazing , a taste sensation , every mouthful was a delight . I feel it won’t be long before this Chef and Resturant will be receiving more well deserved accolades.

I feel the price was fair for the quality and service you received . We will with out a doubt be returning again next time we visit Glasgow . A truly hidden Gem

I Apologise for not taking any pictures I was too busy enjoying the company , food and experience.

User

What an experience! Utterly beautiful restaurant, with staff who couldn't have been more helpful. We had the private dining room which is situated within the kitchen, which was really special. Great menus, especially the vegan options which I had. Beautiful evening and a great way to spend our last night in Glasgow!

This was recommended by a colleague whom I work with in Devon. My husband and I had a fabulous meal last Sunday evening. The food was cooked to perfection. Good choice of wines and the staff were incredibly professional and friendly. Would highly recommend and next time in Glasgow we will return to this excellent restaurant.

User

This was my first visit and may I just say absolutely excellent from the moment we walked in till we left. Food was glorious and there was no hint of hurrying us out the door. We will definitely be back

User

The most amazing meal, with lovely staff in a real gem of a Glasgow restaurant. We had the six course taster menu and every course was out of this world. See you soon

User

Thank you for the most delicious lunch today with my mum for an early Mother’s Day. The place is charming the food was amazing and the staff were very friendly and attentive. I am looking to coming again when I am next in Glasgow and my mother is already planning to return with her friends.

User

On a rare visit to Glasgow we were taken there by a Glasgwegian couple who visit there often. We walked in and were immediately impressed with the ambiance of the place. It was so interesting with all the lovely china and pottery dotted around the walls and loved the way the tables were in nooks and crannies . The food was amazing and reasonably priced for the pre theatre meal. We found the staff were quietly attentive and efficicient . All in all a great experience.

User

OMG! If you’ve never been get your butt there. The food is amazing, the service is superb. All in all one of my best eating out experiences

User

My new wife and I decided we would choose the Two Fat Ladies as our venue for our wedding celebrations on Monday 15th January. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome and nothing was too much trouble for Rory and his team. The food was nothing short of sensational, Emma and I cannot thank you enough for all you did for us.

As a foot note, anyone who is looking for fantastic food and equally great service look no further than the Two Fat Ladies.

Great place highly recommended

User

Delicious food, well presented. Staff very courteous and attentive. Only downside for me was that we were in a small private dining room and I was seated against the back wall and between two other people. Made getting in and out of my seat extremely difficult and undignified.
