Uktc Taekwon-Do & Little Tiger Cubs Description

What is Taekwon-Do?
Taekwon-Do literally means Foot (Tae) Hand (Kwon) Art (Do)- the Art of Hand and Foot fighting. Taekwon-Do is a Korean Martial art. The Founder of Taekwon-Do was General Choi Hong Hi. The name Taekwon-Do was given to this fighting art on 11th April 1955 by Gen Choi.

The UKTC
The UKTC is affiliated to the world governing body the International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF). The ITF is the original Taekwon-Do Organisation, founded by Gen Choi. The UKTC is a member of the British Taekwon-Do Council, the official governing body for Taekwon-Do in the United Kingdom. Through our membership of the BTC we are officially recognised by the Sports Council. All our Instructors are fully qualified and insured to teach Taekwon-Do within the United Kingdom.

UKTC History
The UKTC was founded in 1993 by Senior Master Peter Harkess, Master Derek Campbell and Master Stephen Rooney. Starting with only a handful of clubs in Central Scotland, the UKTC has grown to become the largest ITF organisation in the UK with over 300 clubs, a membership of approximately 9000 Students, and approximately 100 Instructors. The UKTC is dedicated to promoting Taekwon-Do as taught by the Founder, General Choi Hong Hi, and as promoted by the official ITF under the Presidency of Professor Chang Ung. As a member group of the ITF under Professor Chang Ung, the UKTC enjoys the position of being affiliated to the true ITF organisation as recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

UKTC Instructors

Olympic Status
The ITF under Professor Chang Ung, is officially recognised by the International Olympic Committee as the original and true ITF. As President of the ITF, and IOC Member for DPR Korea, Professor Chang Ung has pursued the ITF aim of future Olympic status, with the realisation of a Coordination Committee for Taekwon-Do Integration between the ITF and WTF for future Olympic participation. The Coordination Committee is an initiative recognised by the IOC.

Taekwondo is something that I've wanted to do for many years but have never had the courage to just do it, I attended a trial lesson with the UKTC and Mr. Clark in Workington February 2017 and haven't looked back once, I attend two classes a week and they're the part of my week that I look forward to the most, not only does attending classes help with my anxiety and nerves, I have made new friends along the way who feel like a second family.

User

My youngest kid started in the little tigers last year and loved it, gained confidence and learnt loads. He's now in the taekwondo class and learning his patterns (and as a little bit of a lively child) he looks forward to his classes. Whilst watching, my daughter (9) enrolled and now does 3 classes a week and is going for her green belt (in just under a year). The instructor Mr Kenny Clark has been great with them and adapts his style to each and every one of his students and gives everyone a really personal approach and it's obvious that he genuinely cares about his students development. As both my kids are involved, my wife and I joined the club so we could keep involved with them but grew to really enjoy the work out and the social side of the club. Again Mr Clark showed us the same courtesy and attention and we're now grading and thriving. It's a 5 star club for adults, juniors and kids and is still growing! Highly recommend!!!!!

My son, who is very shy, attends classes with Steven McLaren in Easterhouse on a Tuesday, and I have to say I've never seen him be so excited about anything than when attending class. Steven is absolutely fantastic and someone I'd strongly recommend for anyone who wants to see their child grow in confidence with a passion. Thanks so much Steven, Cian thinks the world of you and myself and Jacqueline can't thank you enough.

My son joined Tiger cubs a few years back. Despite some "I don't want to go" day, he loved ever session he attended. A month ago he move up to Active Tigers, and since the class runs at the same time as the Taekwon-Do classes, I signed up for my free trial 3 weeks ago. I'm not much of a "new people" person, but the class was very welcoming, and the teachers I already knew from my son's tiger cubs. My son enjoys the Active Tigers more, especially since he gets to spar with me once in a while as well and he enjoys "beating me up" :-)

Quite a work-out but great fun and well worth it!

User

My son has been enjoying TKD for 5 years, since he was a tiger cub. He has so much fun at class that I couldn't sit at the side watching anymore and joined in at the end of last year. We train in Wishaw. Our instructors, John & Yvonne Samson, are fantastic. They do everything they can to make sure everyone feels welcome, as do all the students. Everyone gets a real buzz about seeing each other improve and progress. It has improved my son's confidence no end.

My eldest daughter started over 18 months ago age 6 and loved it right from the start. She has worked so hard and is so dedicated we recently upgraded her to master club. She has achieved all the active tiger belts and is now a black stripe belt. She also just attended her first competition which she absolutely loved. My youngest daughter started little tiger cubs just after she turned 3 and has been going for over a year now. The difference in her is unbelievable, not just in motor skills but in confidence and being able to speak out. Miss Smith (Ayrshire) has been their teacher for almost a year now and is fantastic with the kids.

User

My daughter has been attending the James Gillespies Taekwondo for two years. She started off going to the tiger cubs class with Mr Burgess who does a superb job teaching the basic fundamentals but also making the class fun and enjoyable for the 3-5 year olds. When she felt ready my daughter attended the class with Mark Harkess and has gone from strength to strength. She loves the class because she feels she learns something new new every week and she really enjoys being taught by Mark. In the summer she attended a 3 day training course and grading. We were very proud she got her yellow stripe and she is looking forward to the next course when she is ready for it. Taekwondo has really helped her develop self-confidence and has brought her out of her shell.

My younger daughter has just turned 3 and has just started tiger cubs and my son will also be attending when he is 3.

We would like to thank UKTC for providing our kids with such a positive experience.

User

My daughter attends the Clydebank play drone class on Tuesday and she love her class and it is great value for money. my daughter teacher Michelle Haining is great with the kids in her class and also with the younger group. Michelle is fair and knew when to make it fun but doing the necessary steps and practice the class need to do to move up in belts

My 8 year old daughter Emma has been attending Mrs Samsons class for over two years she has improved immensely in this time and was recently proud to receive her green belt. Emma has to work that wee bit harder at everything she does in life and Mrs Samsons class has provided her with a safe, happy, friendly environment to do this which has given her self confidence, discipline and determination. Emma calls it her tkd family and after watching from the sidelines myself and my husband both decided to join 6 months ago and are now excited to be working towards our green belts. The UKTC instructors and black belts are all so friendly and helpful and we thank them for all the help they give us every week.

User

My 3 kids has been attending the Dumfries sessions for about... 3 years? ... they enjoy the sessions and I believe their confidence has increased since they started specially for my son. He was the reason I looked into some kind of self-defense sessions when he suffered from bullying at school being in P1. Master Viera is great with kids , highly recommended

Kenny provides an energetic, fun Taekwondo class here at Kendal in Cumbria. My daughter started the class after her 5th birthday and two years on still absolutely loves it. Mr Clark gives 110% to all the children by helping them to achieve new belts, learn new patterns and promoting their self-confidence. It's also a fantastic opportunity for any child to engage in a new activity with a different age-range of children. Kenny is friendly, approachable and professional. It is clear to see how much he is valued and respected by all the class :-)

User

It has taken me a while to figure out what I wanted to say about UKTC.

My son Ben started 2 and a half years ago at Little tiger cubs and he instantly loved it. The instructors have been fantastic, encouraging him every step of the way. The instructors are teaching him so much about respect for himself and others, perseverance and to never give up on his goals. He is nearly 6 and a green stripe in Active tigers and really looking forward to his next grading.

From watching how much my son was enjoying it and what he was getting out of it I thought I would go along to a taster session myself.

I have to admit I was extremely nervous going along to an adult class.

I was not in the best of shape to begin with and could hardly manage a few press ups let alone touch my toes!

The instructors and other students made me feel welcome from the outset and have supported, encouraged and challenged me whilst I gradually improve my fitness and flexibility.

I cannot recommend this enough.

Thank you UKTC team.

I decided after a year after taking my boy and youngest daughter to taekwondo, to give it a try. After my third lesson, I slipped and broke my foot and was out of action of 6 months, but I came back and have never looked backed since, that was over 6 years ago. Since then my son got his black belt my eldest daughter joined and got her black belt and my youngest is a red belt and I am now a 2nd degree black belt.

Throughout my journey, I have made lots of new friends and colleagues, everyone makes you feel very welcoming and are on hand to help you out with any situation. I have learned so much from my instructor Mr john Samson, and Mrs Samson plus other instructors I have trained with. I help teach in classes and run my own classes passing down the knowledge I have gained from my instructors, Senior Master Rooney and Grandmaster Harkess to all my students.

I'm very happy to be a part of the UKTC family

User

Fantastic Class. My son started tiger cubs with Mr Wiseman, then his older sister joined active tigers after watching. Both my children have separate issues. My daughter who is Autistic now wants to do more taekwondo classes but only if Mr Wiseman will be the teacher. He is a great teacher and makes the children feel very welcomed. My son's issues is very poor balance, suspected ASD or ADHD and could not jump. Now he can jump and I have the classes to thank and he now wants to do more classes and he happily runs in the class. Both of them look forward to their classes and both of them have made friends, and it's all thanks to Mr Wiseman and taekwondo for helping them.

User

Daughter #1 joined the UKTC family in 2011, her 3 sisters joined through the years after. I was just a Taekwondo mom watching from the sidelines. Persuaded by GM Harkess so many times to join but wasn't brave enough until I attended one of his parent/adult only Taekwondo Class with no commitments. After one class I signed up in 2015 and there was no looking back. Our Taekwondo skills matured later with the guidance of Senior Master Rooney's team Mr & Mrs Samson when we moved away from Edinburgh. Our confidence have grown through the years. Made loads of new friends, most have become our 2nd family and learnt loads from very skilful students and instructors from UKTC Team. Yesterday I achieved my 1st Degree Black Belt and it was the greatest feeling ever. Can't wait for my daughters to achieve theirs as well. There's a saying back home in Fiji "HMS no comeback" which means it's only going forward from here. Thank you UKTC.

User

Alex has been going to the Clydebank class for nearly 3 years now. He absolutely loves it. Miss Haining is an excellent instructor and someone Alex looks up to and respects. Classes are always on time, communication is good between ourselves (parents) and the club (Miss Haining) and overall the really friendly atmosphere make it a pleasure to bring him along. Although some aspects of the teachings have to fairly consistent (warm up for example) the variety that is put in place week in, week out keeps the interest levels really high. Just moved up to Black Belt Club which is excellent value for money if, like Alex you are going to try and do it all. If you are looking for a great, well run, family friendly class to attend you would do well to seek out a UKTC class in your area.

User

I'm afraid to say that I've quit TKD this week. It's nothing personal towards the instructor Mr Clark. I just think it's because the classes are more aimed at the lower ranks coming up. We don't get to do much advanced stuff including patterns. But one of the reasons I've left is that uktc don't seem to want to do much for us English, most seminars and all comps are based in Scotland. For the money we pay we should get more things happening down here. Like I said, it's not the instructor but the way uktc run, it's not the best way compared to how other martial arts classes are run throughout the country.

User

Went along for a trial lesson. Email said to turn up early, so we did. Not had a single introduction, nobody has came up and spoke to my daughter. She ended up too scared so we had to leave. She had no clue what was going on. So unprofessional. When you join a class and they see someone new, as our experience from other classes she has joined and still continues to attend, you go and ask their name etc make introductions tell them what it's about ask if they want to join in. We had NOTHING. Very unimpressed and a waste of our Saturday!!

User

We are here (acton high) for trial now and no one is here:( booked few weeks ago and got confirmation via text. Also got one more text yesterday! What a waste of time. And I have one very unhappy boy now;;

User

We are here (acton high) for trial now and no one is here:( booked few weeks ago and got confirmation via text. Also got one more text yesterday! What a waste of time. And I have one very unhappy boy now;;
