Undependence Film Festival Description
Pop Up! Scotland has launched its first independent film festival in Scotland‘s capital in March 2015.
The unDependence Film Festival was born in the spirit of the Scottish referendum 2014.
Dependencies are personal themes that individuals struggle with just as nations do. We are inviting film-makers from Scotland and around the world to submit shorts, feature films, documentaries, animation and experimental works which deal with these questions. We want to watch your stories and ideas, your dreams and feelings about dependencies, independence and /or un-dependence.
unDependence is discovering your voice and make yourself heard.
unDependence is realising that things can be different; realising that change happens within ourselves.
unDependence is questioning the conditions of our existence, of the way things are run.
When do we rely on something bigger than ourselves or are in turn relied on for our mutual benefits?
As Scotland stood on the cusp of change during the referendum, it entered a state of un-dependence. We believe that the Scottish referendum was more than a two-sided coin. It has unleashed an energy within each and every individual. It has shaken up the way things were run in Scotland and the UK and it has ignited sparks inside people‘s minds.

Pop Up! Scotland is a creative social enterprise that is aimed at promoting the arts in Scotland. We offer opportunities to artists, provide education about the arts, and aim to bring opportunities to get creative.
The unDependence Film Festival team is a small team of artists and filmophiles who want to create a platform for film and moving image works which is aimed at introducing the public to film. We want to open up film and discussion to the general public and introduce people from all walks of life to this art form.
The unDependence Film Festival will feature workshops during the day and film screenings in the evenings.
