Do you know where your chocolate comes from, or who makes it? 🍫
The average cocoa bean farmer in Cote d'Ivoire lives on around 74p each day, with almost all cocoa farmers in West Africa living in poverty. For women, the situation is even worse, they have fewer rights than men in regards to their working conditions combined with childcare, cooking and cleaning. Fairtrade Foundation is fighting for a living income for all cocoa farmers, which means they'll be able to afford cl...othing, medicine and food. They believe this is not a luxury, but a human right.
Will you help create this change by opting for Fairtrade?

The event provides a platform for student designers to showcase their work, and includes an exhibition space where local companies can present sustainable products. The letter ‘R’ stands for reinvent, reclaim, re-innovate, and more!

We've created a podcast!
We've worked with a group of students to create a podcast on issues around sustainability in higher education for the Teaching Matters blog! Called "Climate optimism or fatalism: teaching climate change in today's universities", it focuses upon three students' very different journeys into caring about sustainability and discusses the embedding of sustainability across the curriculum.
We hear from students from Extinction Rebellion Edinburgh, The Chap...laincy, University of Edinburgh's Whole World, Whole People group and the former President of Engineering For Change - University of Edinburgh. The podcast is hosted by a MSc Environmental Sustainability student at the University who received our Student Project Grant to fund her podcast series, "Change, the Conversation".
Keep an eye out for next week's podcast, where we'll be hearing from staff on the issues!

We're so excited for this event ran by Edinburgh Local!
The Second Chancers campaign was launched in October 2018 by Community Justice Scotland, aiming to build confidence in community justice as an effective sentencing option. It explores positivity, hope, aspiration and chaos through the lens of people with experience of the justice system. It also gives a voice to people who have been let down and rejected, but who have managed to pull themselves up and fought for better.

The SRS Department have been a huge help supporting and guiding student-led sustainability initiatives within the University population - especially SHRUB Co-operative, the UK's first Registered student-led Co-op - which wouldn't be as successful as it is today without the SRS Department.

It's awesome! It is my favourite Srs department in the whole of Edinburgh university bar none!
