University Of Stirling Libertarian Society Description

We are a non-partisan, cross-party society which believes in upholding classical liberal values such as the freedom of expression, limited state interference upon the private lives of individuals and the principles of equality and liberty under the law. We warmly welcome all students, regardless of political views or party affiliations.

We want to engage students on campus and will aim to:

Hold regular meetings to debate and discuss pressing issues of the day.

Encourage more students to get involved with our Student Union's decision making process.

Fully engage and cooperate with our Student Union to ensure that the intellectual diversity of our student body is respected and that no student feels left out.

We've been generously invited by Stirling University Economics Society to attend one of the first of hopefully many cross-political society collaborations! Hope to see as many of you there as possible!

We're happy to announce we'll be working with the University of Stirling Conservative Society in hosting a talk by Luke Graham, MP for Ochil and South Perthshire!
As well as talking about Brexit and the role of the Scottish Conservative Party in this process, he'll also be talking about his own role in the think tank "Freer", dedicated to spreading the ideas of classical liberalism in Scottish politics.
Regardless of your personal politics, it'd be good to see as many of you ...there to ask questions and provide criticisms if you have any!
Follow the event page to find out more about the event.

Hello everyone,
Tomorrow we will be holding a small election for the position of Publicity Officer. The position has recently opened so if you want to be part of the committee and manage our social media while helping us to make a difference in the union, you are welcome to apply. No need to announce your candidacy here, we will take a show of hands at the time and vote accordingly.
We do ask that you have a membership for the society however, and potentially prepare a short ...speech saying why you should be our Publicity Officer. PowerPoints welcome! We also want plenty of attendance so that this is a valid election so make sure you come along!
Hope to see you tomorrow. -Connor Stephen

A fair challenge, will our Union accept?

A fair challenge, will our Union ever accept this though?

In our EGM last week, our society unanimously voted in favour of endorsing the amendments to the Save Our Students' Union (SOSU) motion being proposed at today's Union GM!
The original motion was intended to prevent the abuse of Union rules within meetings to endorse politically partisan groups and focus primarily on student interests on campus. The motion entrusted the Union to recognise and implement this policy in good faith, reflecting its democratic approval amongst our ...Union's membership. For the past year, the Union has not indicated that it has, or intends to change internal procedures or policy reviews which this motion has mandated.
These amendments seek to spur the Union into officially recognising a legitimate policy which was approved via a democratic process. It will do this by giving members in Union GMs the ability to vote a motion down on the grounds that it breaches the policies set out in the original SOSU motion. It will also ensure that this policy is officially recognised by requiring the Union to consider it one of the "core policies" within the Union's rules.
We encourage ALL members, regardless of whether you agree with us or not, to attend today's Union GM which takes place at 5PM in LTA4. More details about the meeting can be found here: https://www.stirlingstudentsunion.com/abo utus/unionmeetings/
We hope to see a good turnout!

On Thursday, our society held an EGM. In this meeting, our members voted overwhelmingly to officially endorse The Venezuela Campaign!
The Venezuela Campaign is a non-partisan, grassroots organisation which aims to provide information to the public about the humanitarian issues and human rights abuses within the state of Venezuela.
They reached out to our committee earlier this year and since then, they have been diligent in helping us invite speakers to visit our university a...nd talk about these issues from a non-ideological perspective.
We are aiming to host at least one event relating to The Venezuela Campaign each semester, with speakers from varying professional backgrounds. We also aim to highlight people's personal experiences relating to the campaign and the country itself.
We urge everyone to check out their site and social media and to support them in any way you can!

Hi folks, thanks very much to everyone who visited our club at our GIAG this Thursday!
This is the time of year where we have to ask that, if you wish to continue visiting the club and to support our efforts on campus, we need you to pay your membership on the Union website (https://www.stirlingstudentsunion.com/cl ubssocieties/…/8096/).
The cost of membership is £5 and we won't leave you empty handed! Thanks to their generosity, every member will receive 2 free Institute of... Economic Affairs magazines (worth £7.50)! Also, due to limited numbers, the first 10 members will receive an additional copy of the IEA discussion paper dealing with the potential strength of the UK Cannabis market.
Thank you all for your support over the previous year, we would have never gotten to this point without you and we hope you can support us for another exciting year!
