Uws Judo Description

Welcome to the University of the West of Scotland Judo Club!

Judo (the gentle way) is a Japanese martial art as well as an olympic sport where the object is to throw your opponent on their back and control them on the ground.

Created as a refinement of jujitsu in 1882, judo is centred around throws, hold-downs, arm locks, chokes and strangles, and as none of the techniques used in modern judo are designed to cause permanent harm, it has become a great full contact sport as well as a method of fitness training, on top of being a form of self-defense.

The most important part is judo is fun.

We welcome anyone interested in taking part, from experienced players to total beginners. No previous training or fitness is required, and you'll be taking part in practice sparring or "randori" in no time!

In addition to the Scottish uni Championships and other local events, we take part in competitions further afield. So if you fancy taking part and coming along to competitions as far away as London either to compete, or just to come for the experience (and the party) then there'll be a few opportunities through out the year. We can find competitions to suit any ability level, so if you fancy getting involved just stick your name in the hat!

Anyone and everyone is welcome, so come along, take part, make some friends and have a good time.

We train on a a weekly basis, and organise visits to other clubs regularly .
