Only went to see The Great Tapestry of Scotland. Totally blown away. Gorgeous setting and helpful staff. Definitely going back to see the rest.

Fascinating journey through time and space - from South Asian jute plantations to 18th century Derbyshire weaving mills, to the 1900s Dundee, a real chance to get under the skin of history. Special thanks to Alison for her volunteer guide work, operating the machines and handing around the sample materials. The kids loved it.

User

Very informative, friendly staff, despite their being no PlayStation xbox etc or soft play the kids actually really enjoyed it. Great bit of local history.

User

Very interesting. The volunteers did a brilliant job of keeping the kids entertained with stories of what jobs they would have done in the mills. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff.

Excellent way to spend an afternoon. Lorna the guide was very friendly and knowledgeable but this visit's highlight was Lilly who actually worked here. She was an amazing lady with a lovely personality. Worth going just to meet her.

At £9.50 per person this is well overpriced for what it is and not good value for money. The staff are mixed between indifferent, rude and a really helpful chap.
The contents are devoted to the textile industry which made Dundee in the 19th century. There were no original weaving machines on display, instead smaller versions were shown, having originated in the technical colllege for apprentices to learn on. None of the machines were operational during our visit.
There are a few videos on cycle, a couple of which seemed to have content from TV programmes.
Conclusion - basically you are going round looking at static displays about textiles. Considering you can visit the V&A, Science Museum, British Museum (where you can see the Parthenon Marbles) all for nothing. They have a hundred times more interesting than Verdant Works. Even in Dundee, the City Museum is better than this.
Save your money and go somewhere else.

One of many excellent museums in Dundee. Very friendly staff who explained the history of the jute industry when India transported jute to the port of Dundee in the 1880s. The museum houses looms which can demonstrate the process of manufacture. The noise is astounding.

Great place for a family day out. Interesting and historical. Very helpful friendly staff

Terrible signage to get to the works. Once there, a lot of machines and interesting facts, good video, go to the top floor of the main works building, walk on to mezzanine, and look down the length of the room, reminds you of a cathedral, lovely natural light streaming through roof windows

Purchased a ticket at RSS Discovery which gives entry to both attractions. Nicely presented former Jute factory showing the history of it in the Dundee area. Very knowledgeable staff on hand to answer any questions and nice cafe at end of tour.

Wander around at your own pace and watch the interactive bits help explain.

Very well done without any pressure to do anything than enjoy your visit. A bit out of town but relatively easy to find.

Super school trip to compliment learning about the Victorians.

This museum is very well made. But I just can't work up an interest about jute manufacturing. I wish they had spent more of the museum on the history of Dundee. Learning about all the minutia of how jute was produced back when isn't that much fun.
