Verracott is said to be the oldest croft on North Ronaldsay and is a B-listed building, find out some more about it's original features such as it's kiln and traditional flag roof here... http://portal.historicenvironment.scot/de signation/LB43853

We love it when folk enjoy their stay at Verracott and on North Ronaldsay! This is an especially thoughtful and kind review from Rosie - 'Helga's place is very special and we loved our week here. The croft itself is perfect for comfortable island life. The fuel burner was on when we arrived and kept the croft the perfect temperature. I loved most the lack of TV :) The bathroom and kitchen were well equipped and there were some essentials in the fridge on arrival. Extras such... as OJ and bacon were a lovely surprise. I personally loved the decor throughout and the selection of books about the island as well as bird books were useful. I could go on and on about how amazing the whole experience was but people need to experience for themselves. I: walked around the island as well as explored segments in more detail; twitched at birds, hundreds of birds; swam, usually joined by seals; read in the garden whilst drinking wine; read in the little nook in the living room whilst drinking wine; went to the top of the lighthouse and touched an original Fresnel lense and so much more. Helga would have made herself available if we'd needed her but everything was set up for self-check in and other info was available inside. So our paths didn't cross until, just by coincidence we met at the pier for the ferry. A friendly and quick 'hi and goodbye' - nice that I could thank her in person. Thanks so much for sharing this special place Helga, it will be difficult to get back into a routine on our return. We hope to visit again!'

It's been such a pleasure hosting all our lovely guests this summer and we're so delighted that folk have enjoyed their stay at Verracott and on North Ronaldsay. Here's what recent guest, Dominik from Alberta said - 'Staying at the Verracott was one of those once in a lifetime experiences. Pure serenity, everything was quiet and peaceful. Our host was super accommodating with groceries and informative on flights and nearby dining and grocery info. The cottage itself is located in amazing countryside, we did some amazing seal watching and had many long walks along the shores and on the island. We will be back!'

North Ronaldsay is the place to be today! The Airfield has had more planes arriving than Heathrow this morning with folk coming to see the red-winged black bird - a first for the UK

One of the best bits about airbandbing Verracott is all the lovely people we get to meet :-) Our most recent guests were Fredrik and Veronica from Sweden (and their delightful dogs Gordon and Pedro). They're self described 'digital nomads' who have been travelling around Europe, doing their day jobs online as they go and choosing wonderful and unique Airbandb houses to stay in along the way. Orkney's their last stop before they head back to the north of Sweden to spend the su...mmer sailing. Here's the note they left in the visitor book...
'We felt relaxed and at home in beautiful Verracott. We enjoyed the coastline walks accompanied by curious seals, birds, cows and sheep. After a long walk with the dogs we enjoyed the fire places - cosy! It was fun reading The Nordic Cook Book. We had some sun and sat outside drinking coffee, listening to the roar of the sea.'
