Wallets Marts Description

We are a private Limited Company with almost 400 shareholders and we specialise in livestock marketing, land agency and dead weight tracking. The name “Wallets” has been linked to livestock auctioneering in Castle Douglas since humble beginnings back in 1856. Building on honesty and integrity throughout the next 160 years or so the company are now recognised as the premier marketing centre for South West Scotland. Sales have taken place every week on the present site since 1888 and our Number 1 sale ring is one of the oldest octagonal sale rings still in everyday use. Its design and acoustics are second to none and whilst many modern marts have tried to emulate the quality of our mart, none have succeeded.
Whilst livestock auctioneering remains our core business, recent times have seen us successfully diversifying into land agency trading as Wallets Rural Property Services and direct farm to abattoir sales trading as Galloway Primestock. We now trade in excess of £21 million worth of livestock annually and aim to grow this in the future.

On entering the town, you will notice the signboards heralding the Douglas coat of arms and the motto which says “Forward”. Like Castle Douglas, Wallets have also opted for “Forward” as their motto and aim to move the company forward at every conceivable opportunity.

At the pre-sale show of heifers the judge, Mr Stewart Wood, from Orkney selected a pair of In-Calf Heifers from breed stalwarts Robert McNee Ltd, Benhar as his champion In-Calf Heifer pair. Reserve Champion Bulling Heifers were a pair from Pat Crerar, Lammermuir which went on to sell for 1900gns to Mr M. Phillips, Mains of Minnydow.
Trade for heifers was selective throughout the sale with the stronger, better fleshed heifers being easiest sold.
