Wardhill Castle

Historic Castle Wedding Venue. House available to rent for wedding guests, grounds available to put up a marquee and plan your own wedding.

This majestic family home was granted by Robert the Bruce to the Leslie family and dates back 850 years, and has been passed down the generations ever since, with William Leslie, the 16th Laird of Wardhill, and his young family currently living in part of the Castle. The Leslies were Catholic, and were 'out' for Bonnie Prince Charlie in the 1745 Jacobite rebellion, but almost lost all of Wardhill due to a Hanovarian battalion sent to burn it to the ground. The Lady Laird had the servants burn several large straw bales on the front lawn so it appeared to the soldiers superiors who observed the smoke from the trees, that the castle was on fire and their orders had been carried out, thus saving the Castle.

Having now been passed on to the next generation of Leslies, the family have decided to open up the Castle and share thier wonderful home, making Wardhill Castle a beautiful new venue to hire. Having only played host to a handful of family weddings, it’s the perfect place to host your wedding if you want something unique whilst also being traditional. The family are flexible, offering the chance to choose your own caterers, decorators, florists and entertainers, or use some of thier recommended suppliers.

There’s no set structure, the Leslie family are happy to accommodate any request and encourage couples to put their own stamp on the place. They can arrange the catering, marquee, bag pipes, band, entertainment, wedding cars and anything else you require, or are happy to let you have free rein to do it all yourself.

The castle itself is south-facing, bright and welcoming. Choose to have your drinks reception in the large, stately drawing room, followed by dinner and dancing in a marquee on the expansive front lawn. The castle is floodlit to light up the magnificent granite facade when the sun goes down.

The Castle has eight bedrooms and six bathrooms. Bedrooms can be used for the all important bridal preparations for the hair and make up team before the wedding even if you are not staying in the Castle.

For something a bit different, invite guests to stay in the new glamping bothie, in the surrounding woodland, or invite your guests to hire a Yurt and camp in the expansive Walled Garden.

There’s also a family church just a few miles away in Kirkton of Rayne if you would like a religious ceremony.

Wardhill Castle is available for exclusive weekend use. You can host your own special formal dinner in the dining room the night before the wedding with your family and close friends.

We are very excited about this new venture and hope we can offer something different to the other venues by allowing the brides more freedom to make the day their own!
