We stayed the weekend 12 of us and a baby for my birthday and had a great time. The staff were fantastic and attentive nothing was too much trouble. This was truly value for money and would easily return again. Food was good. There were no spa treatments that weekend due to staff shortage but that was fine. The swimming pool you pay for extra which I like as not all of us used it. Spacious lounge area for groups. I'll be back.

Lunch with santa amazing good food and fun for kids

User

I can only comment on the food quality. Absolutely fantastic. I’ve eaten here several times and every time it gets better.

Having read some reviews on here I thought I would add the following;

VFM I would say yes

Rooms have been painted but still need updating

The staff have always been helpful, polite and friendly

Food has always been cooked well, but everyone has different views on quality

We always bring our dog and they make the animals feel welcome but obviously usual rules apply

My biggest gripe is that the swimming pool, which needs updating, has been closed for one reason or another : out of the four times we have booked

Would recommend this hotel but remember what you pay for is what you get

Have been 3 times now for Sunday dinner and cannot fault it! Really great value for money, food hot and quickly served. Yes the hotel is a bit dated and the potholes at the entrance badly need fixed but the Sunday dinner is well worth it! 😀

User

At lunch with santa and my grandson John-paul what a wonderful experience for adults and kids lovely meal lovely staff 10/10 well done xx

One of Caledonian travels better hotels, unlike others me and my girlfriend have stayed in going away this I think is the best. Good rooms (maybe small things need done) but not a lot. Good location to go walks at night like we did when not out on the bus. Foodok but nothing to write home about (basic choices for our kind of holiday) didn't have any problems with staff as they didn't over power you like other places

User

Dated and in need of refurbishment, the furniture in the room I wouldn't put in a charity shop let alone a hotel. However it was clean and tidy and I slept okay. Dinner was okay, simple fayre, though the scotch broth was pretty tasteless. Breakfast was a hot and cold buffet affair and as you would expect the bacon, etc were dried out and the fried egg rubbery, sausages were of low quality, not particularly appetising. Staff were friendly and accommodating, so no problems there. I have been in worse but certainly been in better!

User

Was there for the ultimate 90’s night. The act themselves were amazing however, the waterside inn were very unprepared for the event. Bar not stocked. Not enough staff. Very much in need of updating and the prices were unbelievable! Not a great place to hold an event.

User

Very big hotel but also very dated.

Drive way full of pot holes, on arrival the staff were very helpful and polite .

Room was clean , plenty of hot water and comfy bed but furniture was in need of being replaced as seen better days.

Dinner and breakfast were both dreadful and the both pints out the bar were both flat.

Would not stay again.

User

Meant to be dog friendly but put to very end of hotel. Dog was not welcome for breakfast. Had a problem with disturbances at 3 in morning

User

Wouldn’t recommend the pool facilities, arrived with 8 year old and 2 year old to be told by swimming pool staff, “the law states” I needed 2 adults, As all kids under 16 needed 1:1 supervisor. Turns out it’s utter rubbish!

Went to the community swimming pool, who said law says 8 year old who swims well, could enter with friends alone with adult on side watching. Adult supervisor needed for 2 year old only. We Will not be back to waterside, we used to use this pool regularly.

User

Well that was a disappointing hotel. The whole place although clean is in desperate need of a complete overhaul.

The food was an utter disgrace. Starter consiste of three small mushrooms. The main course consisted of a small piece of chicken that was so tiugh it could have equalled a basket ball and theb the desert arrives hot fudge cake which was actually a dried up bit of choclate cake. Disgraceful!

User

We travel a lot with work and as a family. So I know I am right when I say that this hotel is by far the worst I have ever stayed in. YES it's cheep but NOT worth it. 1st the bed was so uncomfortable I only slept a few hours and when I did get my my back was very sore and stiff. 2nd Yippee it has a pool. STOP it's only available if you pay extra per visit. 3rd the evening menu was a lot to be desired ( we did not eat and went out for tea ) 4th Free Wifi well you will be very lucky after about 20 attempts we got logged in only for it to keep dropping. I would NEVER RECOMMEND this hotel to anyone. Not even my worst enemy.. Please Please spend a few more pounds and find a nice hotel.

User

Very very dated hotel! First room I got was stinking of dampness and the panel hanging off the bath. Got a replacement room, was better but still below par compared to average low budget hotels. Overall poor experience

User

Stayed there last night as was working at St Fergus today. On arrival the staff was friendly. The room! Well what can I say! Shocking! Very dated, the tables and desk had no varnish left in bits leaving the bare wood, the carpet looked dirty and hadn't been hoovered under the bed, the bathroom was clean but broken tiles, very discoloured grout and silicon, ral plugs left in where things had been screwed in at some point. Mattress you could feel the springs! The food was good though. Would not stay again.

User

Run down, cold, uncomfortable, no heads up that food and drink would not be available on the night of our stay, no hot water in the morning and a horrible breakfast. I could go on......but I think you get the picture

User

More duck tape on the floor than carpet in some places. The rooms are badly in need of a revamp it's Like they are trapped in the 1980's.

No hot running water in the mornings I found spiders in my room and a dead fly in the teapot during my last stay. The food is average and the menu needs more variety and a change.

User

I recently had my late fathers funeral tea at the hotel which cost me £895. The tea and coffee was Luke warm , the soup had a funny taste and the sausage rolls were also luke warm. After many of the guests at the tea complained to me I decided to call the hotel and complain. The manager left a voice mail on my phone and I was under the impression he was going to call back. After nearly a week and two phone calls from myself he finally called and said that he was sorry I felt like this and that he could maybe he could refund some kind of compensation but he would have to check with his boss. Again after another week and e-mails that I sent to his area manager he e-mailed me back offering me £100 to spend at the restaurant or £100 on my credit card. I can't understand why he asked for my card details as the bill was paid by cash, and after the sub standard food we were served at the funeral tea I didn't want to eat there.

I have mailed the area manager on two occasions and the head office and have heard nothing back from either of them. This is a very sad and emotional time for myself and my family and I feel that the management of the hotel have shown no respect whatsoever and I will certainly not be giving the Waterside Hotel any more business. I only hope that this report stops anyone else being treated in such a disrespectful and thoughtless way from the management and senior management of Britannia hotels.
