About Wemyss School Of Needlework
The Wemyss School of Needlework is an archive, museum and shop in Fife, Scotland.
Wemyss School Of Needlework Description
The WSN opened here at its purpose built home in 1880. The school has always been looked after by the Wemyss family and handed down through seamstresses and following refurbishment is open again for classes. A selection of our extensive embroidered textile archive is on display permanently and open to the public on the days listed. We also sell embroidery materials and take commissions.

This week is #mentalhealthawarenessweek and we all know that stitching is good for calming your mind. Get involved in some stitch therapy at our wee sanctuary - come and stitch with us on thursday evenings throughout June and July from 5pm - 8pm (come for the whole session or drop in when you can). Sheila has designed some gorgeous Bargello kits and will be there to help get you started with this quick and addictive technique. Choose a kit to stitch or bring your own work. Just Β£5 per session (materials extra).
Today's close up is this gorgeous soft peach colour velvet quilted purse. The close up is of the reverse of the bag as you can see from the other picture the pile on the front of the bag has deteriorated over time and perhaps due to exposure to sunlight. All the windows in our museum are now UV protected to help preserve the collection. . . .#closeuptuesday .... . . . #wsnarchive #wsn #wemyssschoolofneedlework #vintageembroidery #textilearchive #quilting #trapunto #velvet #vintagestitchery #embroidery

#closeuptuesday is back! This week it's 'The Bouldon Rectory Album' This bound album of stitched pages was given to Ameila Collinson by her 10 daughters for Christmas in 1848. The Wemyss School was donated the book by Osla Guest who didn't want it to get lost or forgotten. Each daughter stitched a page and chose different motifs. We love the needlepoint bugs stitched by Thomasina Septima de Winton (age 20).
Today at the School - we were re-backing this beautiful crewel bedspread for a client. This will be made into a wallhanging.
Sorting out a gorgeous bundle of Bright Check today ready for class tomorrow πππ
This weekend was all about Goldwork. Two images of our student's work - a bug and a flower both based on items in our archive. A really fun day where students could work on any goldwork project they chose. We'll be running this again on Thursday 18th April - join us! Book through our website.
It was all about Crewel today at the School in the first of our relaxed workshops. We wanted to let students choose any Crewel project they like to work on with tuition for the day. We'll be running this again on Saturday 27th April if you'd like to join us.
Only a few slots left! Work on one of our kits or bring your own Crewel kit on our Crewel Embroidery class, 4th April from 10am to 4pm. Save your spot here.πβπΌβ‘ https://bit.ly/2HTPoAu
