West Of Orkney Windfarm

About West Of Orkney Windfarm

The West of Orkney Windfarm has the potential to power more than two million homes and deliver long-term economic benefits to the communities in Caithness and Orkney. The project is being developed by our team based in Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Orkney, led by specialist offshore wind business Corio Generation, global multi-energy company TotalEnergies, and Scottish offshore wind developer RIDG. Together the partners bring a unique combination of financial, technical and project delivery capabilities. Our vision is to develop a world leading offshore windfarm which will support deep decarbonisation across the Scottish economy, while maximising socio-economic benefits to the Scottish supply chain and the communities in which we operate. Through our support schemes, totalling £140 million, we will work with suppliers and across industry to develop the offshore wind supply chain locally in Caithness and Orkney, across Scotland, and the rest of the UK. This investment initiative will be launched ahead of any decision to start construction of the project and it will be entirely focused on the West of Orkney Windfarm project. The West of Orkney Windfarm has a grid connection agreement with National Grid for a connection in Caithness. Additionally, the project partners are exploring an option to power the Flotta Hydrogen Hub. There is the potential for both power export options to be utilised. The project is currently considering both fixed-bottom foundations and floating substructures for the wind turbines.
