We have a great variety of wildlife at Kidcleugh Hide, some you see every day, others a little more patience is required. The Haggis however prove to be a little more elusive, although their soil mounds can be seen everywhere!! If you want to hunt for a Haggis then we still have some short breaks availability for February, just send us a message 😂. Happy Burns Night everyone and enjoy.

It’s spooky fun at Whit & Kid this week, my take on Halloween so we don’t scare little children (or Adults 😂).

November 17th!!! There’s a date for the diary. Lovely festive atmosphere with gifts galore, and food to die for. Don’t be on a diet when you go 😂😂

💫☄️💫Orionid, Leonid and Geminid, meteor showers are due from the 2nd October. A good recipe for an amazing show- A clear night, wrap up in the blankets we provide, make a hot chocolate and pop in the thermos cups, grab one of the hot water bottles and set yourself up on the balcony of Kidcleugh Hide for a night of sheer amazement! 💫 Vacancies November and December and of course 2019, as this starlight performance occurs every year. If your truly lucky Mother Nature may even throw in some Aurora Borealis 💫💫

A million twinkling lights, Santa and the gorgeous Gateway restaurant make The Royal Botanical Gardens, Edinburgh, the place to be this late Autumn and winter. https://www.rbge.org.uk/whats-on/christma s-at-the-botanics/

If you would like a quick tour of the Eastern section of the Scottish Borders, (literary a snap shot as so much more), then check out this great video. You will be surprised with the variety and beauty.

August is Fringe in Edinburgh, street performers galore of any age! Free shows and a real good day out. Wander The Royal Mile, and you will find an abundance of little alleyways, called Close’s- here are a selection of the ones I had a wander down. Coffee and a tasty fruit scone in Deacon’s House was to die for (Warning -don’t go in if your on a diet 😂), lunch at The World End, although not in a Close it’s on the Royal Mile and is extremely historic with great food, )yes, the world did end there once in the 16th century). Mary Kings Close is a fascinating Close (entry charge) preserved part of the original city under the Royal Mile, before they built on top of it. Why not book Kidcleugh Hide for next August and join in all the fun!

Drum roll 🥁🥁🥁..... look what we received in the post yesterday! Yip our certificate and very lovely glass Gold award for ‘Best in Scotland’ category for Kidcleugh Hide. Ahem........did I mention it’s the GOLD award 😂, it’s 2nd year in a row folks, and we are as proud as punch!!! I am polishing me gold feather duster as I type 😍😍😍

User

I love this photo, by Allie Conway of Duns castle, with a moody sky. Beautiful nature reserve too surrounding it which is great for walking the dog, some sections off lead too. ❤️

User

Yes we actually did have Chris Pine charging through Berwick and the Borders while filming the new Robert the Bruce film ‘Outlaw King’. We also have the cast from Outlander filming all over the Borders I will post locations for Lallybroch, Prestonpans is just up the road, Wentworth Castle etc soon. You could spend at least 3 days touring these locations as most of the Filming was done in the Borders and the outskirts of Edinburgh. This post is brought to you by a Sassanach, however I am married to a Scot so all is good 😂😂(Just added the Outlander locations to comments.)

Something for the guests who are staying at the beginning of September. I can’t wait to see the Haggis hurling, but hope no haggis’s will be hurt in the process 😂😂.

Words are superfluous in the face of excellence and excellence is exactly what you have achieved in huge measure here at the Lodge. Information and communication have been first-class and enabled us to make the most of every day; the recommendations in the guest information file got us off to a fantastic start; thanks so much for those. The visit from Ross Dougal fishmongers from Eyemouth had us salivating; the quality is exceptional and we bought lots! In truth it’s hard to find words to express what we feel about the Lodge itself; perhaps the greatest compliment we can pay is for us to say that it reflects generous hospitality at its best. Exquisite decoration throughout and attention to every little detail meant that we could relax right from the start. We’ve had a brilliant time. Thank you hardly seems adequate, but it comes from the heart. I’m sure we’ll be back!

We stayed here at the end of January 2018. We had an amazing and thoroughly relaxing and enjoyable stay. The Gamekeepers lodge is an idyllic house with its log burners in the lounge and master bedroom. This added to the cosy homely feeling. Andrea took the time to have a long conversation with me to help me source antique and unusual items for our own home. Despite the weather we crammed in loads. There is so much great stuff to see and do. We definitely will be back. Thank you Andrea for making our stay so much more by adding the personal touch. You've done an outstanding job of creating the perfect bolthole holiday destination.

The hide is a fantastic getaway if you are looking for peace and quiet in a 5* cottage. The owners can't do enough for you and their attention to detail means that you want for nothing. Would highly recommend a visit
