About Witton Country Park

Witton Country Park is 480 acres of beautiful mixed woodland, parkland and farmland to the west of Blackburn.
The estate was once owned by the Feilden family, who built and lived in Witton House (1800 - 1946) and created the park at the same time.
From approximately 1900 the house was empty for long periods and during both world wars the house and estate were used by the army. At the same time dry. . . . . . -rot was attacking the property.
Sadly Witton House was demolished in 1952, after being sold to Blackburn Corporation in 1946. The Witton Estate, comprising some 485 acres was included in this sale. The price of £64, 000 seems ridiculous by todays standards but was a fortune just after the war.
The Corporation raised £30, 000 with the remainder being generously donated by the local business man Mr R E Hart. The estate was acquired in perpetuity for the local people, with the provision that no property development could take place in the future.
Mr Hart's bequest was one of many to the town, and his collection of art treasures, particularly illuminated manuscripts, can now be seen at Blackburn Museum and Art gallery.
In 1973 the estate was designated a Country Park, with grant aid from the Countryside Commission.
Fortunately the outbuildings of Witton House survived and these former stables and coach-houses were renovated in the late 1970s. They were officially opened in 1980 as the visitor centre for the country park.

Witton Country Park can, and does, cater for all. Walking, playing, picnicking, wildlife and bird spotting, athletics and all in a fantastic setting on the edge of town.

Went to watch my son compete in cross country. Lovely park, great facilities. If anyone finds a Walsh cross country running shoe my son lost it in the mud! Please contact me if found. X

User

We travelled from wigan as we fancied a change from our local parks and had heard about the cycle track. We were not disappointed our little one loved it. So much so that we didn't have chance to venture beyond it and the playground. Will definitely be back.

User

We take my daughters dog here at least twice a week so she can run free a chase her ball , it's also a good walk for us and she meets lots of other dogs she can play with .

There is a nice little cafe and lots of play areas if you have children .

User

Its a great park for the family and dogs we go regularly beautiful scenic walks and good parks for the kids all in all a nice place to go

User

I've been visiting the park for over 50 years and I still love it. Bit over tamed now. Although some parts feel neglected. Remember exploring the woods when the paths were completely overgrown. Spent hours finding new walks. Now live in Cornwall but visit the park every time I'm in Blackburn.

User

I love witton park been going since I was little so I've got loads of memories that I cherish and that I would like to make with my own children as I watch them grow up x

User

I dont know who loves it more.... me or my Yorkies! Great space and lovely, like-minded people. A very friendly place and great for parking up

User

Great place,I walk their five times per week the park is lovely and well used pity the car parking fees being introduced by the Corparation have ready seen of the very popular "Couch to 5k" I hope it does restrict family use and OAPs who walk their on a daily basis

User

Fantastic addition to the amazing park was the BMX style bike track near the cafe. Our boys spent well over an hour on this alone and loved it! Clean and well cared for park.

User

Fantastic , well maintained park . Lots of variety and its heartwarming to see it so well used by people of all ages .

User

Excellent park for family fun, loads to do for kids and adults alike. Could do with some more picnic benches in the park though

User

An afternoon walk up to Under Billinge Lane, down to Pleasington and back to Buncer Lane. I've always loved Witton Park, since I was a kid. I love the variety of landscapes and the fact that you can get lost in it all day if you want. It feel as if you are miles from town and you can get away from it all in the heart of nature. It's a wonderful asset for the people of BwD and visitors as well as home to wildlife where it can live unmolested. One of my favourite places on the planet.

User

Amazing park and lovely. It is an amazing place to take my dog Alfie who loves it and Also respectful dog owners go there which is good and I like the walk around the fields and it is nice and lovely. :-)

User

1st visit duting the day as usually i am here in dark riding round the forrest. Bob on for a free day out, little boy loved the pump track. Can't wait until he's a bit older then we can ride up into the mountain bike trails further up. Lots of benches and fields for a picnic as well. Be back again for sure.

User

Nice park, lots of space, lots of areas for kids to play, park run is very good

User

I thought it was a lovely idea but unfortunately my little boy couldn't keep up with the group to hear what was going on and we couldn't get into the activity room as it was too busy. I think it would be better for older children as my little boy is almost 2.

User

Great for the kids to let off some steam only downfall they'd ran out of ice cream but I guess that's a good thing meaning business is doing well at the cafe

User

Will be better when the bins are emptied, over flowing with poo bags atm
