One of the easiest ways to keep your tools razor sharp is stropping them. Here is my strop kit which will do all your #knives, axes and gouges. Rather than leather it is made with cork and gives an amazing polished edge on your tools. #axe #sharpobjects #mora #handtools #handmade #handmadescotland #vegan #noanimalsharmed

Lovely piece of Scottish Oak for this beer tankard. It developed a tiny split so was stitched with a contrasting piece of Birch. #woodprojects #woodcarving #whittling #greenwood #slowliving #handmade #handmadescotland #handtools #beer #ale #microbrewery #scottishbrewery #tankard #stein #scottishhardwood

We went on a quaich carving course and it was brilliant. Didn't believe at first that we would start from a log and end up with a near finished piece by the afternoon but we did it!!! Tom was very opened to all questions, providing links and references to things like tutoring videos and online shops. In the end it was very useful to be able to buy some tools from him. Highly recommended!

We had a really magical family afternoon with Wooden Tom. Quite brilliantly he came up with carving dragons, which our daughters love. The adults had a great time whittling the bodies whilst our children, aged 4, 7 and 9 thoroughly enjoyed learning how to plane the wings. All of us had a fantastic, truly memorable time. Thank you Tom.

The best compliment you can give someone teaching you a new skill is they have the right temperament to make it easier to pick up; had a great day ,on the 1st of October 2016, on the quaich carving course and came away pleased as punch with my efforts. Thanks for sharing your knowledge Tom

Thanks for a great day yesterday Tom, you have some fantastic skills and I loved learning the art of wood carving. Hope you can find something exciting to do with the antler. Will definitely recommend you to folk you have a great set up there.

User

Thank you so much from 1st Kingussie Guides - we had a great time learning to make butter knives today! We hope we can come back to learn more soon!

Paul writing this review on my wife's page......Just spent the day making a cup with Tom, He has the best office, a very relaxed style of teaching, and copious amounts of tea. I would recommend spending a day with Tom, the skills he teaches have not changed in some 2000 years and in a world where everything you need is in the local shopping centre, their is something special in taking something home that is unique, made by you.

Patient, knowledgable, involved and fun plus Tom has a magnificent beard...

I went on Tom's birchbark container course and had an absolutely fantastic time. I enjoyed crafting the container and the physical processes of it--sewing with roots, whittling the lid, etc. Just as exciting was Tom's extensive knowledge. I loved that he demonstrated how to gather the materials and the woodsman lore necessary to take the craft with you and do it on your own. His workshop, in a gorgeous little hollow in Aviemore, tucked into the woods and the fields, was an absolute pleasure and wonderfully relaxing to work in throughout the day. I cannot recommend Tom's courses enough and will be doing more in the future!

I was given a nail bottle opener as a present and have to say it is the best bottle opener I have ever used. Not only does it appeal to me as a concept using recycled materials it is also the easiest bottle opener I have ever operated and the magnet idea to hold the cap with a second to stick it to the fridge is a brilliant yet simple design concept. My experience? Several thousand bottles, maybe into 5 figures! Using at least 2 dozen different bottle openers, probably more. Don't tell my doctor!

I only wished the day was a week! Beautiful setting, great & patient teacher and I've learnt a new skill (knifemaking) which I will be continuing with.

I had such a lovely day with Tom learning how to make a bowl. The setting for the course is simply stunning, the instruction is calm, succinct, and friendly and the tea is hot! What more could you want? And now I have a bowl!

User

Have just purchased some gorgeous spoons from Tom. Well made and a speedy delivery. Highly recommended and I will definitely be back for more. Thank you so much.

Had the best day hanging out with Tom learning new skills.. and was well chuffed to go home with something that actually half resembles a spoon! Who knew I could be so dainty with an axe. Thanks Tom. Will definitely be back to learn more.

Had a brilliant day! Well chuffed with my spoon and will be back to learn more. Great teacher with a brilliant sense of humour and turn of phrase. Also makes great soup! Cheers Tom. By the way, when I look at trees now, all I see is spoons..

User

Great teacher. Fun, patient, encouraging. All my firewood now looks like something potentially much more interesting! Will definitely do another course with Tom.

User

Fabulous day in a great setting learning green woodwork with Tom. He is a natural teacher with a lovely manner and making a serviceable item from scratch was so satisfying. Thanks Tom, we'll be back for more tuition later in the year.
