Woodlands Dance Orchestra

We are a big band based in Broughty Ferry playing a wide variety of music from traditional big band swing and jazz to pop, rock, latin, funk and more.

The Woodlands Dance Orchestra was formed in October 1992 by Gordon Forbes MBE and Gordon Jamieson. We are based in Dundee and our mission is to promote the awareness and appreciation of music through the Big Band sound. Most of the band members live in and around Dundee or Perth, with a few from the Angus area as well.
The original band made its debut in April 1993, and now plays regularly at gigs mainly in the East of Scotland. The orchestra has developed from being a typical “big band” playing music from the 30s 40s and 50s to become a highly entertaining group with a wide repertoire that covers swing, jazz, pop, movie and stage music with the odd smattering of disco, latin and funk thrown in for good measure.
We rehearse most Wednesday evenings in the Woodlands Hotel, Broughty Ferry and we are always keen to hear from musicians who might be interested in playing with the orchestra.
We are also available to book (at very reasonable rates) for dinner dances, weddings, birthday parties etc. Contact us to find out more.
