About Young'S Interesting Books

A wee shop, with the emphasis on quality rather than quantity. Apart from the bulk of the proprietor, that is.

A rare Spring visitor records his culture shock in venturing across the park. You'll always be welcome in Shawlands, pal. One of us, now. One of us.

Yer maw's day. Jessie M. King's City of the West, A Vindication of the Rights of Women, or the book for Girls Who Are Keen on Fashion, Mystery, Dancing, Ponies, Legend, Adventure, Fun and Magic!

The scrumunchiest proportion of our new arrivals. From Brigitte Bardot and Marilyn Monroe to Edmund Dulac's Arabian Nights (We've got Rackhams in too) and MacBrayne's steamer trips. Come in and have a shuftie.

Pop along and give Amy a hand. It's the wee lane parallel to Skirving Street off Deanston Drive, to the right of Bejouled, Kwik Call and Altered Image Upholstery.

Two more cracking posters in the shop - a gorgeous John Maclean centenary poster from 1979, and an original Glastonbury 1982 poster, showing U2 tenth on the bill - even though they didn't actually perform. Sure, where else would you get it?

Noelle checking out some of the miniature books in stock.

A Valentine literary haiku: Volumes of blood read, old romantic cards for sale, accordionist.

Another hen's teethish stoater - a 1920 history of our local team - Scotland's oldest fitba club. A beautiful volume telling the early story of football, and a team of glorious amateurs that won seven Scottish Cups in a row, didn't concede a goal for the first seven years, and didn't lose a game until their ninth season.

That stunning Glasgow detective book in the last post has gone, but you can still get your sticky wee hauns on James Deas' wonderful 1876 book on the Clyde, which includes this gigantic map of the river.

User

Some of the pure dead brilliant Glasgow rarities we've just acquired.

What better way to mark what would have been the 94th birthday of Paul Newman than to brush up on your nudism skills? Volleyball, gazing moodily at rivers or clinging coquettishly to a tree branch, you too could be a really good nudie if you follow sound advice. "An' tho' thou'rt noo sae scuddie bare, Thou'lt soon be clad wi' feathers rare." as the poet has it.

Noelle and Barry have been summoned to Ireland to pay tribute on the first birthday of the heir to the Carroll-Young fortune (five wine glasses, a magazine rack and a DVD of Open All Hours Series 3). Theobald Conchobhar Eachmilidh the Proud, Prince of Baile Ui Mhornain and High Wriggler of Onesie, should he spare their lives, will then send them to the Aitken Basin on the far side of the moon to change the AAA batteries in the Chang’e 4 robotic probe.
The bookshop will therefore be closed from Thursday January 17 until Thursday January 24

Congratulations to John Scott for being the first to spot our billboard, up in Victoria Road behind the Shell garage. The power of advertising!

We'll be open tomorrow (Sunday) from noon until 5pm, and on Christmas Eve from 10am until 4pm. Come along and pick up a book on nudism, gasometers, tunnelling or the history of Guatemalan playing cards. Happy Christmas, a'body!

We're very happy to be one of around 55 Shawlands shops accepting the new local Gift Card. Get yourself a present while your at it. You know you deserve it. Go on, spoil yourself. We've got vintage Chrimbo decorations, posters, old science fiction magazines and horror comics, maps, weird unclassifiable thingies, and books. Lots and lots of books.
