Well, I'm not sure what Ross there is complaining about. Builds go plenty fast for me. It is true that it doesn't have "insta" test like I've seen in other engines, but overall build times aren't all that bad. GMS1 was much better than GM8 and before, with the addition of shaders being one of my favorite features besides the multiple platform exporting. And about GMS2....it has lots of features that GMS1 does not. New features range from a great auto-tiling system to an engine that runs faster for everyone I've seen do any tests on it, and then you get a much nicer image editor as well. I wouldn't call that "fucking 99$ for nothing" but that's just me. And there are many other features that I haven't even mentioned.

User

This is the best option I've found for making 2D games. It's designed for that purpose, and feels just right for that purpose. It's good for your first games and professional commercial development.

User

This is my first software that i use to make a game and until now i still use it and why i give a 5 stars because there is a lot of people can make a game because of it

User

I tried other packages and ended up coming back to Game Maker. It's easy to get into but offers plenty of depth for you to fully master. At this point in my experience, I can prototype a game in literally an hour. My biggest tip: you get out of it what you put in.

User

I developed a lot of games and still learning new things everyday to improve myself, and here's you can check out my games that made with GMS. Go to Google Play Store on your Android device to download free apps & games ( Fear of electricity ) and more.

User

Hands down the best 2d software out there and easy to use. Anyone who has issues using this is a special kind of stupid and really shouldn't be making games.

User

Great tool for beginner designers, coders, and pixel artists alike. It's incredible just how quick and easy you can get a minimum viable product up and running with this engine.

User

Game Maker has shown time and time again that it's capable of yielding outstanding games. Learning GML code isnt too challenging if you put in the time to learn..

User

GMS2 is accessible, powerful, flexible and affordable. The Drag and Drop scripting option is excellent for visual thinkers and people looking to learn how to code. The ability to preview and convert visual scripts to code highly accelerates learning and gives you extra power and flexibility when you are ready for it and need it.

I've tried several other engines over the years and nothing came remotely close, they were all too limited or too frustrating to work with. For individuals and small teams looking to create professional, 2D, indie games, I can't think of a better choice than GMS2.

User

Fun and easy to use just point and click and if wanted code you game and export it to where you want totally awesome

User

Very nice software, i start use it 10 years ago, but only is good for 2D games or isometric :)

If you wanna make any 3D will be very hard and dont works very good.

User

I have no major complaints as I actually have three license one from humble bundle and one from before that when it was on sale as well. So all in all 2 license for 1.4 and one for GM2. For the money it's a great software for the money that I payed at the time. Many people point to Unity as the go to software, I say if your software is not 3d then why use a software that was not specifically made to handle 2D same in verse, If your game is 3d then navigate to Unity. The major difficulty, which was no fault to yoyogames was the android setup, GOOD GOD that was tedious and frustrating, once setup it's a breeze to export to android . Where I hit Yoyo games is their training ... damn where are your books damn it. I had to first get a Dummies book as heck I was and still am a dummie. Yes your help is helpful if you know what you are looking for but certainly useless if you don't understand terms. I had to get my knowledge from Udemy namely Benjamin from heartbeast and several other Youtuber videos and written materials Mainly if you don't give to shits for the drag and drop method which I so detest. Game make Language is the way to go. I do see that recently they have been placing some learning video etc. GM2 seems like a great step with it's tools and such and I may eventually utilize it on my next games.

Regardless this a decent software with excellent functions and so on. Great as a starter and then well you can move on to bigger boy toys after.

I loved GameMaker until GameMaker Studio 2 came out. Everything was different and I missed GameMaker 1.4. I was used to 1.4 and I had 1.4 and a license for it. I learned how to use it and I took lessons for 1.4. Unfortunately, I accidentally broke my computer with the 1.4 in it when GameMaker Studio 2 came out and somehow I lost my license for 1.4. I heard when you download the beta version of GameMaker 2, you can get a free GMS 1.4 license. I thought that getting GMS 2 Beta would get me back my license for 1.4. So I did download the beta version and I didn't get the license. I’m still working on a game on GameMaker 1.4 and I can’t make it on GameMaker 2. I found a download link for GMS 1.4 on the YoYo Games website. I downloaded it and I tried to put my account in. It worked but a message popped up saying that I don't have a license for GMS 1.4. I'm also in a educational program/competition called TSA (Technology Students Association) which one event uses GMS or other video game engines to make an educational game. I was about to use it but like I said before, I broke my computer and lost my license. Now I can't make the game with GMS 1.4 at home and someone else is making it. Disappointing. I talked with my adviser and he said to contact YoYo Games. I haven't done that yet but hopefully, I'll contact them and get my license back. Right now, I'm keeping this as 3 stars. If this is resolved, I'll change this to a positive review and make it 5 stars. But I'm very frustrated with YoYo Games and how people are forced to use GMS 2 instead of GMS 1.4 or older if they are either new or don't have a license for GMS 1.4 or older. If YoYo Games is reading this, please reply back if I can get my license for 1.4 back.

Gamemaker is a good software ideal for people just starting out in 2d gamemaking. It is by far the best software where you don't actually need to code to make games. However, if you have experience of making games then its best to look elsewhere at other software like Unity. Compared to other game making software e.g. unreal, unity, Gamemaker is considerably less powerful and has a lot less features. It is also extremely difficult and very hard to make 3d games with it, they charge a huge amount of money to make games to android or apple whereas on unity you can do it for free. Overall, if you want to make your first video game then download and learn this software.

User

was using game maker for years now (started with v5.0) but by the time this game engine (if you could call it one) have added nothing new.

I have game maker studio license and was using it for a while but it's just worse then game maker 8 pro.

I somehow slower and takes why too much time to build project (using i7-6700k with 16gb ddr4 ram) and now they show their new game maker 2 (lol) with nothing new again, even more bugs (using you for free as bug tester) and asking for fucking 99$ for nothing.

User

ahw,, accounts are in beta, detecting Steam license is in beta (aka not working), who cares I paid for the soft and want a supposedly free plugin! I need to pay the second time so you kindly allow me to download it!

User

This software is horribly unstable. I do not recommend it at all. At least not in the current state. It HAS POTENTIAL. But it fails miserably. Here I will list the issues I have had within the past 2 weeks.

I have used GM1.4 many years ago, that was their best, wish that was on MacOS.

- IDE consistently changes DPI (UI zoom for laptop-mode) even when on a 27" display. Makes it unbearable to work in, have to unplug/plug in my external mouse and reopen. (wasting your time)

- Trying to compile game randomly hangs and stalls, have to restart or clear cache to find out why. (wasting more of your time you could be using to build)

- "Failed to save the script". The script exists, but it doesn't save it, and you try to fix it, the IDE removes it completely. Thank god for back-ups. (wasting your time again trying to solve an issue that shouldnt exist.)

- "Failed to save project" Ok, this one really takes the cake. Not sure why this one appeared, but I tried to create a Sprite Group (which is a folder organizer for my imagery) and it basically said failed to save. THE WHOLE PROJECT. I then thought, another IDE bug, let me just reopen the project. That was a mistake. (what happened next?)

- "Failed to open project" This is the dagger that killed me. The project is no longer accessible. Everything is lost.

If you are willing to have the following errors listed above and want an IDE that wastes your time. Then this is the IDE for you. But YoYo Games, they really messed up this time. This software was released prematurely. And you're destroying the productivity of the people who will make GMS a true success.

Game Maker Studio 2 is a failure, and that is that.
