Went to the Tanqueray Gin event in the private dining area of the aBode's restaurant last night. Gorgeous setting, excellent host, delicious food and the gin cocktails were seriously flowing. Each of the courses matched the drinks perfectly - my favourite was the gin equivalent of a Bloody Mary matched with tender beef medallions in a licorice jus. Divine! I'll definitely be back for more.

We recently got married at this beautiful venue, we couldn't have wished for a more perfect day. Hannah, Simon and their team went above and beyond to ensure my day was perfect. The food was delicious, everything went perfectly and our guest were happy. We really couldn't have asked for more for our wedding! Thank you ♡

We have just home after a lovely stay at the Abode for 20th Wedding Anniversary. We cannot fault this hotel.

On arrival we was greeted by friendly reception staff who informed us that they had very kindly upgraded us to their 'Most Enviable' room! Another lovely touch was they had put a congratulation balloon and card in the room.

The room was very large and very clean and we loved the freestanding roll-top bath and large wet room .

The room had everything you needed from tea/coffee to dressing gowns and slippers and plenty of snacks!

The dinner in the evening was tasty and very well presented , not large portions but fine for us and the breakfast had a good range of hot and cold food selections.

We can not praise the Abode enough. We will be back.

We had a great evening at the Distillery Night - Tanqueray Gin - a Masterclass with gin and food. The set up worked well with the private dining room so beautifully decorated and Joel from Tanqueray was a really good host. I tried new gin cocktails (that second one was my favourite, it was utterly delicious and VERY strong!). Food was really good and well matched to the gin. What a lovely group of guests to share a sociable evening with. We are already looking to rebook to return in the summer for another Masterclass. Thanks to all the staff who looked after us so well.

User

We got engaged here and so have made a point of coming back for our wedding anniversary and the staff are so welcoming and attentive. From a congratulatory balloon in our room when we came back from shopping to exciting little extras at dinner, it's a truly wonderful experience and feels like home! Would definitely recommend!

User

Took our two boys in there yesterday for a coffee during a shopping trip, expecting to pay a little more than normal, i was pleasantly surprised. Hotel is beautifully decorated, staff were very friendly, we were able to get a seat and not have to queue. The coffee was fab

and cheaper than a popular coffee shop so for us it’s a win win and will certainly be back.

User

Really lovely rooms and exceptional friendly service on the front desk! Bar was a bit slow but that’s to be expected on graduation week!!

User

Just stayed here for two nights, and it was the best hotel I've ever stayed in. The staff are professional, friendly and welcoming and the food was really nice xx

User

Just had a Sunday roast and oh my god it was divine!! Thoroughly recommend! Super chilled and delicious food

User

It was a wonderful hotel and very comfortable and clean and the staff were lovely and the bed was so comfortable thank you

User

It was a lovely experience and the afternoon tea certainly filled the two of up. And tasted all good and was up to scratch as well. Service was also first class with friendly and very accomodating too Well worth it.

User

I have had a brilliant weekend visiting my a Undergraduate granddaughter whio is at Canterbury University. Thank you I really enjoyed my bed and breakfast stay being looked after by such friendly staff in a warm comfortable hotel

User

I have been a resident of the hotel since June 2017 and have to say it is definitely the best in Canterbury.

As well as the hotel having character and the charm of an old building it's the staff that make this place no 1.

A warm welcome when you first walk through the door to the time you check out.

Any issues are dealt with quickly and professionally.

I have loved every minute of my stay here.

User

Had an amazing night here for my partners birthday. Staff were friendly, very welcoming and also very helpful. Even put a balloon in our room for an extra touch and we was also upgraded. Definitely will stay again and would highly reccomend a visit!

We often visit Canterbury. We often have a drink at Abode. But we decided to stay over last night as we were going to the Sir Tom Jones concert at the cricket ground and thought we'd make an occasion of it. I can't fault the staff or service. Very attentive, professional and welcoming. We had a room that was "one up" from their basic room. I've stayed in many hotels around the world, and for the money, to be honest, it was no better than a premier inn for facilities/size. Very basic toiletries, no shower gel, no regular tea bags. A torn and seen better days non slip mat in the bath, a shower head that only worked on one setting. Yes of course I can call reception to have that rectified, but at £245 for one night those details shouldn't have been overlooked. There is an automatic service charge in the bar that is added to your bill. Just so you are aware. We paid £15 per head to have the breakfast. The continental side of the breakfast wasn't extensive, but what was there was of a good quality. There was plenty of choice for the cooked to order side of the breakfast too. I asked what was on the plate of the vegetarian full English. I was told a vegetarian sausage, mushroom, beans, egg, tomato, spinach. What I received was, to be quite frank, a very off putting plate of food in front of me. There was one mushroom. A fried egg (as requested), vegetarian sausage, a black pudding substitute, something that I couldn't fathom, but looked like butternut squash/sweet potato soggy hash brown, and a ramekin of baked beans mixed with tomatoes and herbs. Why? Anyway. As with all these things, it's subjective and personal preference. However, and this is why I've given 4 stars, the server noticed that I wasn't eating what I had ordered and immediately offered to get the kitchen to prepare me something else. That's amazing customer service. I thanked her gratefully and ordered poached egg on avocado and sour bread. This came quickly. Unfortunately the egg was cooked right through, poached in salt water and covered in chopped chives. Totally over powered the flavour of the original dish. Again, of course it's subjective. The server again offered to get me something else. I thanked her kindness but declined. Again. I could not fault the service. We won't stay here again, by for convenience for the centre of Canterbury its great. But over priced and over rated.

User

Staff very polite and helpful. Only let down by;

A room next to a noisy lift, luckily not in use too much at night.

&

After the room was made up I had to ask for toilet paper and clean glasses and cups. Put right quickly on request.

The food is first class and the hotel is located in the High Street so good for all the sites that you want to visit like the cathedral, yet there was little to no noise from the street.

Importantly the beds are good.

I would return.

User

We expected more from Abode after the excellence of the Chester hotel. Although upgraded, our room was very basic, the bathroom needed updating, the shower showed it’s age and the pillows were so hard I didn’t sleep much at all. Hotel car park is a different postcode to the hotel. This makes a huge difference to your sat nav!! It would have been nice if this was made clearer before we arrived at the front door, having driven down a busy pedestrianised high street.....

User

Stayed overnight here for my daughter’s graduation at the Cathedral. Good location for everywhere we needed to go. Right in the middle of the town. Bed comfy but let down with pillows that were very soft like marshmallows. I think you need at least one supportive pillow. We had drinks and nibbles in the bar in the evening which were nice. Shame about the cocktail menu which wasn’t extensive. It is billed as a champagne bar but doesn’t even have kir royale in the cocktail menu but very good that they said they could make them for us and they were very nice indeed!! Unfortunately things went downhill the next morning when I fell down the very awkward step in our room, 104, tore into my shin and bled everywhere just when I was getting ready for my daughters graduation. Not ideal timing!!! Someone was sent to patch me up so that I could continue getting ready but as you can imagine I wasn’t feeling great but wasn’t going to miss it for the world so it was very unfortunate all round. I think there should be a bit of a warning in this room. I wouldn’t want this to happen to anyone else. An elderly person could easily break something. As it was I was able to hobble round Canterbury albeit with blood on my outfit they had seeped through the bandage! Not a good look for the photos! So on top of this to be paying such a hefty premium (graduation prices) for what is an average hotel room left us feeling rather deflated and disappointed. The fall in the room could have been catastrophic resulting in a broken limb which would have meant me missing the graduation entirely. So I was lucky. But someone else may not be. Be very careful if you are allocated room 104!

User

Me and my girlfriend hosted a babyshower at the hotel. The service was excelent and staff brilliant!

Although, due to a wedding event on, the car park was full. A staff member had mentioned to us that we could park in a private car parking lot. So ok, it sounded strange as we didnt get given a parking permit but surely it must be ok and its in there hands! I understand that this area is for permit holders only but I was made sure by The Abode Canterbury that it was perfectly fine for me to park there as their main car park was full and I needed to park somewhere to get to my heavily pregnant girlfriend to her event.

After the hotel saying it was definitely fine for me to park there, I am really upset to find this notice and this has now caused unnecessary stress to both my partner and I at a time we really do not need this. If I knew there was going to be an issue and wasn’t reassured then I wouldn’t of even stepped foot in the car park!

Now from this situation, Im now appealing a parking ticket that I recieved thanks to the hotel reassuring us that its fine to park in the private car park. I highly doubt the hotel will help us through this stressful time, so be warned to not listen to multiple staff members there that said its ok for us to park in a private parking lot without a parking permit!
