LES MILLS BARRE: LEARN THE MOVES | Arabesque
This traditional ballet move engages all of your core muscles and helps strengthen your lower back. And, by bending the supporting knee slightly you can intensify how this move works your glutes. This move is great for improving balance and also provides long-term postural benefits. Here are some key points to remember: ・Maintain ballet posture by squeezing your thighs, tucking your tail, lifting the chest, squeezing your core and ...bringing your shoulder blades back and down ・Tip forward slightly and extend the back leg behind you ・Straighten your back leg and ensure that your body stays in one straight line ・Raise both arms forward for first arabesque, or take one arm back for third arabesque ・Tap your foot to the floor to add intensity.

LES MILLS BARRE | LEARN THE MOVES | The Demi Plié
The demi plié is one of the first moves you experience in a barre class. Demi pliés are a great way to warm up the joints of the feet, ankles, knees and hips. The alignment and control required for demi pliés are key to strengthening the core, creating powerful legs, improving balance and helping you hold your body better. Ballet dancers use the demi plié coordinated with breathing to foster concentration and mental focus. Her...e are some key points to remember: ・Place your hands on your hips so you can feel your core and glutes are constantly engaged ・When dropping down press the knees out and keep your tail slightly tucked ・Keep your back straight up and down as you move.

LES MILLS BARRE: LEARN THE MOVES | First Position
First position sets you up with basic postural principles that will pay dividends in everyday life. It’s also the posture that you should maintain through an entire barre workout. While it seems simple, if you’ve never done ballet before, holding this pose for a length of time can be a challenge. Here are the key points to remember: ・Pull up tight thought your inner thighs, squeeze your glutes and gently tuck your tail bone ・T...ighten your core, lift your chest but don’t flare your ribs ・Pull your back muscles back and down ・Lift your chin to lengthen your neck ・Keep your arms relaxed with your hands at thighs ・Breathe deeply and relax.
Once you’ve mastered first position you can embrace other simple ballet moves to tone, shape and condition your body.

Took my 11 month old grandaughter swimming and just love the way the baby pool is so lovely and warm and even when we came out to the changing rooms normally its so cold in other places but it was lovely and warm very clean and the staff are so friendly and helpfull

User

The staff are first class. The place is clean and it's the only pool in Kent with a decent sized pool.

User

Always find the reception staff so happy, and willing to help. Use the pool only for swimming lessons for my child as well as life saving. Also both of these are run by great teams. Thank you

User

The gym was great , the pool was lovely as was the baby pool nice and warm for my grandson , only spoke to a couple of staff but all ok, my only moan was a awful smell near the toilets like the drains and the toilets not very clean and could do with updating or painting

User

Really enjoy waterworks but the usual £7.30 is very steep especially me who is out of work. This is the only fitness that I can do due as its weight bearing. Wonderful it's £1 at the moment. They should do a discount for unwaged/disabled

User

I've been to many gyms around the surrounding area, I find kingsmead to be my favourite; it's friendly, inviting and not at all intimidating, I've found other gyms very intimidating. I'm very happy to attend this gym, the classes are great to! I would recommend to families, or any individual at any fitness standard

User

I go to the gym early mirning the receptionist that has been on for the past two days could not be anymore friendly and smily. I must say others are nit mornibg people. Staff in the gyn in general are always friendly helpful and motivating Well done

User

Been a member for 3 years and although I have niggles regarding parking and changing facilities for gym users, on the whole it ticks all the boxes. No other gym has this amount of classes and all at varying times with plenty of spin sessions every day and the gym equipment is excellent. There is an affordable crèche with excellent staff on board to look after any age and plenty of kids clubs during the holiday. If only I could get in the car park and have a decent shower!!!!!

User

Regular problems with the pools. Classes cancelled at least an hour before they start but not text or told when I book in at reception, only when I get told by other gym users that it's cancelled that I realise. Some instructors are regularly late to classes. It looks rather run down and well used but always being told it's due for 'major refurbishment' but never given an actually timescale of when this refurbishment is actually happening. Toilets and changing rooms not great. For the money you pay for membership not that great.

User

Overbooked classes with not enough space (especially Pilates, how can I stretch if I will hit someone in the face? ), not clean gym, dirty changing rooms, some staff more interested in chatting up teenagers than making sure the place is clean, tidy, safe. Gym instructors /supervisors just chat to their mates, not even a hello to anyone else that walks in. Was a member here since 2007. Given up on this place completely. The ceiling tiles that were missing for months and broken aircon.. I could go on...

User

Incredibly disappointed! I booked two spaces as soon as it the offer was released for the free baby swim sessions today. My friend and I both turned up at 10.40 leaving enough time to get parked and changed for the session at 11. The car park was full and with no sign of anyone leaving. We were not the only parents waiting for a space for the session. We went in to ask if there was an over flow car park, we were directed to Northgate car park, this was at 10.50. This may not be far, however, when you have to carry a baby and your swimming bag it's not easy, my friend is also pregnant and therefore was unable to carry her child so would have to walk. We asked is we could both park in one coach bay, to which we were told the car park belonged to the council and even with a note in from the pool we would still get a ticket. Therefore, we were unable to attended the session due to it starting in 5 minutes by this time!! It was very disappointing as we were really looking forward to it and I was going to book my daughter in for more sessions after this taster. Also, when booking I was told that if we couldn't make it to ring and cancel as there was only limited spaces and lots of interest, it's seems a shame that two spaces were not used due to lack of parking.

User

I went to kingsmead today to a soft play group I have been to once before and was very disappointed to be told that as I didn't have my membership card with me (I keep it in our swimming bags) I had to pay full price rather than having my name checked in the system to see that I have it, which is how it was done last time, no questions asked! I also pay monthly for my daughter to have swimming lessons every week at herons. I think a reasonable response would have been to check it today but make me aware that in the future I would have to have my card on me!! Very dissapointed!

User

I love the classes you do here but you should really advertise the fact the pool is very often closed to the public when people sign up, very disappointing considering how much the membership is and that I joined because I wanted to going swimming every week.

User

This is the third time I have gone to take my toddler swimming and the pool has been closed. My daughter was so upset this morning, we went to a lot of effort to get packed up and get parked. To then be told it’s closed AGAIN is not good enough. My daughter likes the pool as it’s nice and warm, however it is filthy in the changing rooms and the staff always seem to have an awful attitude. Waste of parking and unless I retrieved my parking ticket, I would not get a refund. Baring in mind I had a screaming toddler because she didn’t understand why this has happened again.

User

They are ridiculous!I am a student struggling with money as I only had a part-time waitressing job and had to work all year without even having holiday for two years and had just enough savings to pay for a membership at this gym only to attend yoga as it was recommended by my doctors (for a neck and back injury). I paid almost £300 at this gym and all year round they've been trying to charge me extra for classes that I was 1' late or for their own system mistakes. I went there today and they told me I had to pay £18 for classes that I didn't even miss and they didn't even have a manager there that I could speak to!!I wish I could give them 0 stars and I really hope that no one else gets a gym membership there in the future. There are many other gyms in Canterbury that are friendly to students and understand their financials issues not trying to charge them money they don't have to attend classes recommended by doctors to improve their health.

User

More than disappointed from this gym! Most of the receptionists are extremely rude, and they fail to help and accommodate any issues. I have been waiting for a long time to be served, while the receptionists gossip with each other instead of doing their job. One week ago, I arrived at the gym at 20:55 looking whether the swimming pool is busy and although the receptionist saw me, she refused to allow me to use the gym at 21:01 as she said that the gym closes at 22:00 and I am not allowed to enter after 21:00. They always charge you for "late cancellations" of classes, even if you cancel on time. Not recommended

User

Jacuzzi and diving boards still not operational after weeks! None of the staff I spoke to are interested in my complaint. Extremely disappointing. Apparently the site has the prices, just not coughing-up our membership money to fix them. Cost cutting has gone to far...don't think the memberships worth it anymore

User

Extremely disappointed to find out that a class (pump) I have been going to for over a year (on a 3 star membership as I am a student) no longer allows 3 star membership access to the class (without paying another £6 per class - on top of my membership) is a bit of a kick in the teeth! - My membership is described as an offpeak membership, tell me how after 7 oclock is not offpeak and 2 weekend pump classes are also not offpeak ! Wish I could get my money back!!

User

Checked the timetable on their site, said it was open to public, travelled 30 mins to get there, got out the car with 3 year old, 1 year old and newborn (family meeting us to) only to find a whiteboard outside saying 'closed for gala'. Went in to speak to receptionists, who were disengaging and rude. The receptionist with her back half turned to us as she shreds paper in the shredder confirms they are closed. She didn't look at us just looked as miserable as a wet fish. No apologies at all just a shrug of the shoulders.

A couple who were sitting at the side (parents to a child in the gala) told us that loads of families have walked in to find it closed and said its not clear on the site and that the receptionists were just as rude to them.

If you are going to this pool don't trust the website, ring ahead ...thats if you get a response off the disrespectful staff.

I love the classes you do here but you should really advertise the fact the pool is very often closed to the public when people sign up, very disappointing considering how much the membership is and that I joined because I wanted to going swimming every week.
