About Aero Legends

The premier provider of Spitfire flight experiences in the UK

Aero Legends Description

Aero Legends has it's operation based at Lashenden (Headcorn) Aerodrome, the last grass wartime airfield left in Kent and offers our customers the opportunity to experience the iconic British aircraft of World War II. We offer a unique experience of being able to fly in and with the training and combat aircraft that the RAF used during WWII. Customers have a broad selection of options ranging from a short flight in a Tiger Moth through to the full experience package of Tiger Moth, Harvard and Spitfire.

All of our aircraft are maintained to the highest standards and their histories are set out on the website. All of our customers will be fully briefed from an operational and safety perspective prior to their experience flight and will wear an authentic WWII style parachute. We are proud to have some of the most experienced pilots on these Marques flying for us, many of which have long and successful careers with the RAF including the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.

It was a serendipitous email correspondence between our researcher Nick Oram and Norm Whiteford the son of Spitfire NH341 Elizabeth’ pilot F/L A B ‘Bruce’ Whiteford that lead to an amazing and previously unknown discovery. During Bruce’s RCAF career, he had flown two Aero Legends aircraft, Spitfire ‘Elizabeth’ and the recently acquired C47 Dakota ‘Drag em oot!’

Again under glorious weather conditions, last weekend marked the third Aero Legends Battle of Britain Airshow at Headcorn Aerodrome. It was our mission to deliver a family friendly show that exhibits the iconic aircraft from WW2.
Our show was extremely well attended which raised some some logistical issues with parking and traffic management. Despite these issues, we maintained a friendly atmosphere enabling our guests to be as close as possible to the aircraft and their pil...ots. Around the display flying there was even the opportunity to fly in some of the aircraft.
Our expert pilots performed six breathtaking displays with 18 aircraft on both days, including a rare round canopy jump from our veteran C47 Dakota ‘Drag em Oot’ on Sunday. Due to the strong on-crowd wind on Saturday, we were unable to do this.
We would like to thank all those who attended the show. We are happy to confirm we will be repeating the show in 2019, the 75th Anniversary of D-Day and will shortly be confirming the dates. Our aim to to continually improve the show content and logistics whilst maintaining great value for money.

The Aero Legends team had a fantastic week in Normandy with the various parachute teams who jumped from Drag 'em Oot. We're looking forward to scheduling more jumps this year and through 2019, the 75th anniversary of D-Day.

Wow! I can't properly express what an awesome experience today was, I had the fly with a Spitfire over Capel le Ferne today, Parky and St George got so close to us and when he peeled away my mouth dropped open. A big thank you this fathers day to all the staff and ground crew at Aero Legends.

User

What can I say, the 6 year old me would not believe that I had flown a Spitfire in a two-ship formation over Capel-le-ferme! Thank you so much to all! Parky and Charlie Brown were just fantastic, and I really cannot put into words just how beautiful an aircraft Elizabeth is. I would say I'm on cloud nine, but I'm pretty sure Parky victory rolled around it...... not that I mind!

User

What an absolutely amazing day I had! My wife bought me a standby 'Fly With A Spitfire' ticket for my 50th and I got the call Saturday 14th July for my flight 15th July. The Spitfire pilot, 'Parky', was amazing, explaining exactly what to watch out for and how he would be flying alongside. The Devon pilot was amazing too, holding it steady and coming back with a perfect landing. Would I book this again, in a heartbeat!! Thanks to all involved groundstaff, crew, pilots - see you again very soon!!

User

Visited Sywell on Thursday with a small group of friends as our buddy Simon was there for his spitfire flight. Having Parky as his pilot made the trip even more special! Sadly postponed until the next day due to crosswinds, so we came back on Friday and all went to plan - the weather was perfect!

It was great to spend time chatting with Parky, who I used to see at Coningsby when he was with the BBMF. Everyone we met was friendly, and our friends were very well looked after. Dave got to fly alongside Simon in the harvard so we had two very happy chappies!

Well done Aero Legends - will definately be back to visit again, even if we're not actually flying ourselves next time.

User

Together with my brother and sister, we booked flights from Headcorn in Elizabeth. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel at home by all the staff. Nothing was too much trouble for them and the banter we enjoy as a family was equalled with the staff. We all flew with Parky, who was fantastic before, during and after the flight.

Looking to rebook for another flight soon.

User

My 1st visit to Aero Legends Headcorn was on Friday 29th June where, together with my two brothers, I had the privilege to fly in Spitfire NH341, Elizabeth. We were given a very warm welcome as we booked in & were made to feel very much at home. Every member of the team was friendly and helpful, with special thanks to Chris, Sally, Wayne and our pilot, Parky, who all joined in with our family banter. The flight itself was incredible and the memories will stay with me for a very long time. I was given the controls for a few minutes on the way out and as we returned to the airfield towards the end of my 20 minutes, Parky performed a victory roll and then to top it all off we did a loop - wow!!! When we first met in the dispersal hut, he'd said it was going to be a great afternoon ... and he wasn't wrong!!!

We were back at Headcorn on Saturday for the airshow and, having upgraded our tickets to the VIP enclosure, we were greeted like old friends by those members of the team we'd met the day before. It was another fantastic day and I thoroughly enjoyed watching the spitfires doing the same moves I'd experienced with Parky the day before.

The only disappointment for me over the weekend was that the cockpit video of my flight doesn't work, but that has given me an added incentive to repeat the experience and in the meantime I'll keep looking at the photos and videos taken from the ground!!!

Thank you Aero Legends - will definitely see you again!

User

Lovely flight in the Devon. Great pilot and friendly ground crew..everyone so helpfull.. highly recommend.

User

Impressive array of historic aircraft. Had the look and feel of an airfield in the 30's - 40's era. Had a wonderful time watching the Battle of Britain movie on the open air screen. An ardent fan of Ron Goodwin's music it was amazing to hear the full stereo sound. The Nightingales 40's tribute were spot on too.

User

I was booked to fly on Elizabeth Thursday afternoon as a birthday present too myself. Unfortunately the weather decided that would not be the case. I was contacted by Ben and asked if I was available the following morning, so flight was rescheduled. Arrived at Sywell and the weather was glorious. We were briefed and taken airside and given ample time to take pictures. My flight with Parky was amazing and all too soon it came to an end. A great day with great memories made enhanced by the professional and laughter loving staff especially Ben and Parky. Would well recommend this :-)

User

I visited Sywell with a group of bonkers friends on Thursday and Friday so Simon could fly with Parky in the Spit and Dave could fly in the Harvard. You guys were excellent. Simon and Dave were looked after wonderfully and we were allowed lots of time airside for photos. Parky is a great gentleman and had me in stitches. Tell him I’ve downloaded Pilot Episodes and listened to the first two, they’re excellent! I live about 7 miles from Sywell and am an AirScout (Cub Section) leader there, so will pop over from time to time! Thanks for a fabulous couple of days!

I flew with Aero Legends for a second time on 29/6/18, but cannot find a way to leave a second review, so am adding to the first. I stand by everything I said last year and would never contemplate going to another provider.

I had another amazing experience. During an hour’s flight we went out to The Seven Sisters & Sussex coast & Eastbourne. We took in virtually all the Kent coast round to Whitstable & turned in to circle Canterbury Cathedral. It was all beautiful; the views were incredible, made sublime by the view of those iconic elliptical wings from the cockpit, and the thrum of that perfect Merlin engine in my ears. On the way back to Headcorn Charlie Brown rolled us upside down, and reminded me how tight a Spitfire can turn, and because Headcorn is not hampered by low height restrictions you can do stuff in the air that you cannot do elsewhere. O’h, it was all over too soon!!!

The staff & volunteers were great. They feel like old friends. They are friendly and helpful, and the ground crew are conscientious about your safety. I’m already saving for next year. My advice: don’t go anywhere else.

2017 Review.

Fantastic, amazing, what a day. I travelled from Lincolnshire on my own as my husband is unwell and was more than a bit apprehensive at being alone. I needn't have worried. EVERYONE at Aero legends made me feel welcome. Ben gave up half his lunch for me and arranged photos around the plane as I had no guests with me.

Ft Lt Charlie Brown, my pilot was ace. My 40 mins in the air went by in a flash. We went out to the coast and Capel le Ferne, over Dover Harbour and headed back over Manston aerodrome, Canterbury cathedral & hospital where I trained as a nurse. We flew on the level. We flew sideways, wing tip pointing at the ground. We shot up through cotton wool clouds and spiralled down. We Victory rolled and finally landed very gracefully on one wheel as the cross wind was getting up.

Afterwards the rain started and Charlie and the crew chatted over mugs of tea. Reluctantly I had to leave and wend my way back to my hotel. As we spoke, I did remember that I had been on a pleasure flight (pure fun.....I want to do it again), but the experience brought to the surface my gratitude to the young men who fought, were scarred physically or burnt out mentally, or who 'bought it' flying to save Britain. And mustn't forget the women who delivered new aircraft to their squadrons.

Anyway, the whole team at Headcorn are great. It's a professional operation. Special thanks go to Charlie, without whose flying skills it wouldn't have been half such fun.

I love you all........

User

I flew the spitfire Elizabeth on June 15 this year. From the time We arrived till the moment we left we were made very welcome. The place is the great venue and I would advise anyone if they were thinking of wanting to fly a spitfire aero legends is the place to go. Flying over the white cliffs , doing a victory role over the Battle of Britain memorial at chapel le ferne and flying her myself is something I will remember for the rest of my life. Thank you to Charlie Brown and the crew at aero legends for making my dream of flying a spitfire possible. I can't thank you enough

User

I booked a flight in a Spit fire for my husbands 50th Birthday . Managed to keep it as a surprise and from the moment we arrived the atmosphere and energy was amazing. Apart from the obvious delight of the flight experience (which Parky just made so special) all the staff where absolutely fantastic, they really made the whole day magical for all of us. Its one month on and hubby is still grinning

Thank you so much, cannot recommend this highly enough

User

Had a fantastic day on Tuesday 19th June at Sywell Aerodrome in Northampton with the Aero Legends team, myself and my dad had Sit In A Spitfire experiences which was excellent and then I had a trial lesson in the T6 Harvard which was amazing, myself and the family really enjoyed the day the organisation was great and the Aero Legends team were all so nice and nothing was too much trouble.

So special thanks to Ben, the groundcrew Wayne, Andy and Neil and also Charlie and Parky the legendary Spitfire pilots for the chat and photos, and Gordon the Harvard pilot.

You all made the day very special and memorable.

Best Wishes

Kevin, Tracy and Charlotte

User

From the moment we walked through your door until the last handshake goodbye you could not have done more for us.

The professionalism of your operation was of the highest standard and the ground crew, the most brilliant team of people to look after us.

Thank you.

User

Fantastic flight in formation with the Spitfire on Sunday. As if getting photos of "St George" close up air to air wasn't enough I managed a couple of shots with the BoB memorial in as well. Great flying by "Parky" in the Spit', & Dave in the Devon.

Would I recommend this? It may seem like sacrilege to some, but I enjoyed this more than flying in the Spitfire!

Added to that my two boys got to sit in the Spitfire cockpit, a very moving experience. Thanks to all at Aero Legends for a fabulous day all round.

User

Amazing day! Made to feel welcome & a part of the team from the moment you walk in the door.

My Stepson flew with Parky in Elizabeth. We're all grinning & those of us that didn't go up in the sky are jealous.

Thank you all.

User

Absolutely perfect! My wife booked the flight for me to take pictures from the Devon of the Spitfire. I managed several really nice shots and had a wonderful, if short, flying experience. I would love to do it again, especially if you use a Hurricane!!!

User

A superb show at Headcorn. Husband had flight alongside spitfire and was very very impressed. We had VIP tickets thru Groupon and were very pleased with the facilities.
