Affinity Trust

About Affinity Trust

At Affinity Trust we support over 900 people with learning disabilities across England and Scotland, helping them live as independently as possible.

Affinity Trust Description

Here at Affinity Trust, we are dedicated to supporting people with learning disabilities to live the lives they want to. Whether helping someone to live in their own home, providing opportunities to make new friends, experience new things or gain work that is rewarding and enjoyable, Affinity Trust aims to ensure that those we support have the opportunity to live life to its fullest. Our mission and values are at the core of our service.
Many of the people we support have come from institutional settings and we have worked with them to transform their level of independence and often, as a result, their quality of life. Supported living is our main area of support, and we are committed to offering this model for people with learning disabilities in preference to typical residential care homes.

We see challenging behaviour as a form of communication. Through their behaviour, the person is communicating that their needs are not being met.
Our job is first to understand that behaviour and what causes it, and then to develop plans both to prevent it, and respond to it when it does occur: https://affinitytrust.org/…/special…/ challenging-behaviours/

Supported living is our preferred approach to supporting people with a learning disability and autism, as we believe it gives people more rights, choices and control: https://affinitytrust.org/what-we-do/supp orted-living/

A recent Sky News investigation, based on NHS Digital data, showed that the number of people in assessment and treatment units in England has fallen by just 80, from 2,395 in March 2015 to 2,315 in September 2018. Please join us in signing this petition to stop the detention of people with autism and learning disabilities in assessment and treatment units:

Many people with a learning disability have little or no experience of work, paid or unpaid. One exception is Reece, who works in his local hospital: https://affinitytrust.org/what-we…/meet -people-we-support/…/

I have worked with Affinity Trust for about 6 months now, starting as a bank worker but now full time. I love my job, the ongoing support from my managers has been excellent, and as you are expected to deliver a professional service, the training I have received has been first class. You couldn't ask for a better job, or more worthwhile profession.
