Arriving at T-junctions, look to the right first - look for approaching traffic - judge their speed and distance, and any signals - let those drivers see you looking.

The other day, I saw children waving their arms out of a car on the move. Recently, a passenger on a moving train stuck his head out of a window and struck something, receiving fatal injuries to his head. Surgeons re-skinned the arm wrist and hand of a car driver who's car overturned whilst her arm was hanging out of the window, scraping her arm along the road whilst squashed between the road and the car. I often see drivers' elbows poking out of the window - a collision wit...h a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction could result in fatal injuries. A friend of one of my students lost three fingers of his right hand when his car crashed whilst he had his elbow poking out - he was fortunate. Children and animals should not be allowed to poke their arms or heads out of moving vehicles. The consequences could be serious, even fatal. When children are in moving vehicles, drivers should lock the rear doors and windows to prevent children from opening them.

Today, I met a new client and discovered that, although they already hold a driving licence and are driving on the public roads, they could not read a car number plate - even within a couple of metres of the car. A condition of our driving licence is that we CONTINUE to be able to read a car number plate at 20.5 meters. This responsibility rests with the licence-holder. We can check easily, by taking 21 long steps away from a car before reading its number plate.

How many litres of fuel does your car hold? The average car holds 50 to 60 litres. Well, a Boeing 747 holds 216,000 litres! Think how far we take a car on that!

Re. the drama of an aircraft crashing onto a busy street in London. In all forms of transport 98% of accidents include human error in causation. 95% are caused by operator error and 3% are attributable to indirect causes including design. The remaining 2% are attributable to natural causes including weather.

How do we approach pedestrian crossings? Do we anticipate the actions of pedestrians? Are we ready to slow or stop our car? What is the manifestation of our anticipation? By being ready to slow or stop our car. How can we be ready to slow or stop our car? By releasing the gas to reduce momentum. If in doubt what should we do? Stop. This is defensive driving. Defensive driving reduces the risk.

Today in Raynes Park the husband of a friend was knocked down at a pedestrian crossing by a car.
What are we doing inside our car whilst we are approaching a pedestrian crossing? Are we talking, smoking, eating, phoning, texting, or looking out for pedestrians at or near the crossing?

Renault Megane 1.9TDi 6g and featuring the glass roof - even over the rear passenger seats. After my MK1 Focus the electronics offered even more computer-assissted control and function, and it was my first key-less car. I liked the wacky shape at the back - typical of French car design. This car would have been my best car so far, if it wasn't to be used for driving tuition, since the clutch and gearbox broke twice and the car suffered several other faults - resulting in so much time off road that it was sold off only eighteen months later.

Great experience with Alan, my instructor was amazing and made me feel really comfortable when driving, every element of driving was explained with great professionalism and in a way I could understand. I highly recommend Alan to anyone.
