The shape and age of these drawers informed my Painter-in-Residence Jeanie Simpson from Jeanius reloved’s design plans.
She looked for quintessential 60s and 70s designs that would reflect the history of the furniture and that would also work across the curved front of the drawers. Jeanie cites the late, great Verner Panton as the inspiration behind the pattern and colour choice she came up with and I think he’d agree that it works superbly.

Rêves en couleurs painted this sideboard in contrasting shades of Chalk Paint®.
Barcelona Orange and Aubusson Blue are complementary colours – they sit opposite each other on the colour wheel. Using them next to each other emphasises the graphic straight lines on this mid-century modern furniture for extra contemporary cool.

Congratulations to Hayley Weeks, who’s won my current Win-a-Tin competition with this ombre dining chair! I love all the colours Hayley’s used together for this transformation. Thank you to everybody who entered (especially the first timers, of whom I saw a few!). My team and I here at Annie Sloan HQ in Oxford, England, always absolutely love seeing your work.

N is for…NEW YORK, New York! The Big Apple, the City that Never Sleeps, and home of Painted Swan!
That’s where you’ll find Andrea, who’s been using Chalk Paint® for almost 10 years. Andrea’s style is very classic – French and Gustavian pieces which suit the quintessential New York city high-ceilinged brownstone homes in her Brooklyn neighbourhood. Andrea says these homes, with their ornate moldings and hardwood floors remind her of of Paris apartments and that “the rich sophisticated finishes achieved with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint couldn’t be a more perfect match to the neighbourhood”.
If you’d like some of this style for your own, why not visit one of Andrea’s popular "Bring Your Own Piece” workshops?

It’s white, but not as you know it! Melissa, who can be found on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/coastalwhitehou se/, has transformed her home into an oasis of crisp whites and it’s anything but boring.
From the ceilings, down to the flooring, via the bright white furniture - this space positively sparkles. Melissa's chosen shade is Chalk Paint® in Pure - a brave choice on the floor, but it looks beautiful.
PS can you spot the painted pineapple? Here at Annie Sloan HQ we love a painted pineapple, as anyone who's visited can tell you!

This is one of the hallways at my headquarters in Oxford. It’s a very soft and calm little corner, where I’m watched over by 19th Century illustrations in Duck Egg Blue and Graphite trompe l’oeil picture frames.

I was inspired by traditional Swedish paint work when designing this children’s bedroom!
The playful modern wall, painted with Wall Paint in Paris Grey and Old Ochre provides an unusual but not challenging backdrop to the bed frame in Chalk Paint® in Scandinavian Pink, Paris Grey and Old White. The colours were layered on top of one another for a 3 coloured distress. I wanted the bedside table to look very soft, so after painting two coats of Paris Grey I knocked back the colour with a layer of White Chalk Paint® Wax. Finally, the curtains and bed dressings are in a mixture of Tickings and Linens from my fabric range.

Painted wood paired with unpainted gives an immediate fresh and coastal feel.
This is a particularly lovely example from 100 Thousand Welcomes. Mare used a mix of Chalk Paint® in Old White and Pure on the edges, then White Chalk Paint® Wax and Clear Chalk Paint® Wax on the top surface and on the drawer fronts for that beautiful sun bleached effect. The chair to the left is in Old Ochre, a soft warm neutral which was inspired by old French woodwork.

This kitchen by Furniture Art Studio is fabulous to start with – all that natural light! The neutral colours look modern and sophisticated but for me the star of the show is this sink unit under the window.
This reclaimed buffet was painted in Chalk Paint® in Graphite with touches of Old White, French Linen and a touch of Paloma. All finished off with Clear Chalk Paint® Wax, of course. Superb job! Graphite elsewhere in the room ties everything together.
You too can paint your kitchen cabinets with Chalk Paint®! See how here: https://www.anniesloan.com/…/how-to-pai nt-your-kitchen-cabi…

This week I’m looking at Neutrals. Now, I might be best known for my love of bold and bright colours - but you simply can’t go splashing around six different brights and expect your home to look designed. Neutrals are a necessary foil for colour, they can emphasise different tones in powerful shades such as Emperor’s Silk or Antibes Green and they can also work beautifully on their own to create a tonal symphony.
This is a "neutrals" board I created many moons ago to show my stockists when they visit HQ for training - I find it a very useful visual map of how neutrals work with the more statement shades. What do you think of these colours?

The talented folk at The White Plum in San Antonio, Texas are the paint pros behind this cool, fresh piece. The moody styling versus the fresh use of colour here is absolutely fantastic. They’ve created an oasis of atmospheric shades using Napoleonic Blue, Duck Egg and black wax. The complementary shade of Barcelona Orange on the right is a masterly touch. Thirst quenching!

User

Here I am in our meeting room at HQ playing with some of my favourite colours (before painting any furniture I always do a quick sketch of the piece and try out various Chalk Paint® combinations). This room is where all of the big decisions are made, including new product development and collaborations. The didgeridoo in the background rarely gets played, although I’m open to changing that. #didgeridoo or #didgeridon’t?

In keeping with yesterday’s celebration of North America, this piece from Painter in Residence Jeanie Simpson Jeanius reloved is inspired by American Folk Art trunks. Jeanie was especially influenced by Johannes Spitler, who is known for his pallete of rich blues, red ochre, lampblack and white lead pigments.
Jeanie faithfully recreated these colours using a mix of hues from the Chalk Paint® palette. She painted these colours in a composite design of Spitler's work. She then heavily distressed the entire piece using a scraper and sandpaper. To finish Jeanie applied clear wax, a heavy layer of dark wax and a final coat of clear wax. For more information on the colours used and her process; https://www.anniesloan.com/…/folk-art-t runk-by-jeanie-simps…

Another ombre, but this one’s a little larger and a little more complicated. Don’t let that put you off, though! Ombre is a fun and forgiving technique that everyone should try at least once. In fact, try it once, and as with so many Chalk Paint® techniques you’ll find yourself itching to do it again and again.
Confirmed Ombre addict Restored4u used Emperors Silk, Honfleur and Barcelona Orange in combination with Black Wax and Dark Wax for extra impact and colour intensity on this handsome and earthy chest of drawers.

User

Fade out Tuesday blues with this beautiful, happy ombre. From Old White to Emperor’s Silk via Barcelona Orange and some custom shades in between. Thank you to Atelier 1966 in Quebec, Canada for this fantastic piece.

The Fourth of July is just a few days away, so to celebrate the theme for my Win-A-Tin competition will be red, white, and blue! ANY entries painted in either red, white or blue will be eligible.
