Artscape Description
Artscape has history. It is a combination of two very well known shops in Harpenden. Studio 35, offering art and craft materials plus framing services and Madesco, offering office supplies, photocopying and dyleline printing.
Studio 35 had a long history. Run from 1985 to 2000 by the Suharan family. Prior to that it was run by Geoff And Muriel Sanderson, who ran it as The Studio, and later as Studio 35. For 17 years they ran it as a photographic studio, selling, art and craft materials, gifts, toys, greeting cards and picture framing. For many years customers continued to ask if studio 35 took passport photos, which takes us to the previous owner ; it was known as C. Hallam, who mainly ran it as a photographic studio plus some other lines. But it always had art materials as one of the lines. Indeed an old resident of Harpenden seems to think that about 50 years ago one of the famous Mr Newton owned the shop at 354 High St. Winsor and Newton is a world famous art materials producer. Artscape is proud to be a Winsor and Newton Premier art Centre.
We sadly had to leave the High St in June 2000 and the artshop was reincarnated under the name of ARTSCAPE, moved to much larger premises at unit 4 Bowers Parade Harpenden. This site is demolished to make way for a housing scheme. A move to unit 8 Southdown Industrial Estate did not affect our resolve to continue offering all the services, of course with ample free Parking for customers. The current site is situated by the skew bridge on Southdown industrial estate.
You can expect to get a friendly, professional service; weather it be picture framing to a very high standard, staggering amount of art and craft materials, papers, mountboards, framing supplies, stationery supplies from stock and to order, computer refil ink cartridges, black and white plus high quality colour copying upto A3. Very popular Dyeline printing for architectural drawings, art classes, plus much much more.
