ASR Project - Breaking Barriers by Creating Innovative Solutions

A.S.R Project Description

Our team are made of professional youth workers who have dedicated their time to supporting and developing young people and the community. ASR initially started as a voluntary project with the aim of reducing anti social behaviour. As time went on, we had developed a wide variety of methods and models to engage young people.

As of 2014, ASR Project is made up of the following organisation;-

@ASR Elites FC
ASR Community
ASR Design
ASK ASR
ASR Study Club
ASR Learning Centre

ASR Learning Centre is based in Luton and more specifically in the Biscot Ward. The largest ethnic minority group in the town is South Asian and about half of these are Pakistani, with second largest being Bangladeshi. The recent Census indicated that the Pakistani and Bangladeshi populations represented over half of the populations in the central Dallow and Biscot wards, two of the most deprived Super Output Areas in the town

Since 2012 We have worked with over 500 people on various different projects within the Dallow and Biscot Wards. Our work in the community has been locally and nationally recognised.

The population of Luton is estimated at 205, 800 according to ONS data. This new estimate is broadly in line with Luton‟s own estimate. (Luton 2012 Mid-Year Population Estimate July 2013). 37% of the population are below 25 years of age and 26% below 18 years of age compared to England and Wales averages of 31% and 22% .

48. 23. 6% of the population over 16 years of age have no qualifications (cf 22. 7% England and Wales), for all levels above Level 1 Luton falls below the England and Wales average with only 22. 3% above Level 4 (27. 2% England and Wales). (2011 Census – Luton Borough Profile).

#Sacrifice
Greater Eid or #Eid al-Adha, commemorates the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ishmael as an act of obedience to Allah.... Eid al-Adha is also known as the #Festival of Sacrifice.
Our staff and #volunteers sacrifice endless hours of their time to support the needs of #youngpeople and the local #community.
We presented a little #gift just to remind them how much we appreciate their time!.

A.S.R Project has achieved the Investing in Volunteers Quality Mark, in recognition of the excellent work we do with volunteers.
Investing in Volunteers is the UK quality standard for organisations involving volunteers. The award aims to improve the quality of volunteering experience for volunteers and to encourage organisations to better recognise the enormous contribution made by volunteers.
ASR was rigorously assessed against a range of best practice standards and proved ...to excel in all aspects of working with our volunteers.
One of their volunteers said: “ASR has shown me that people who volunteer are important and valued” and “I feel part of the organisation; I am regularly asked for feedback and feel my opinions matter”.
Volunteers provide a much needed support within the community. ASR aims to lead by example. Making sure volunteers are valued and respected for the work they do is vitally important and we am delighted that our standards of quality in supporting and developing volunteers have been maintained and recognised.

We had a fantastic day fundraising for Children with Cancer UK!!! The sun was shining and the young people loved the activities that were taking place!
Cancer is the leading cause of death in children aged 1-14 years in the UK, Survivors can face a lifetime of serious health issues as a result of the intensive treatments used to treat their cancer.
The money raised will be handed over on the presentation day!

Today we had the pleasure of welcoming Azaan Kaleem's mum to visit ASR Summer School Project 2018 to deliver a workshop around Knife Crime and the Risks and Consequence.
It was with great sadness, that we learnt Azaan was attacked in March and unfortunately he did not make it through these wounds.
Azaan's mum came to our Summer School to talk about her experience and help the young people understand the consequences of Knife Crime.
... Study shows that knife crime has risen by 86% in Bedfordshire since 2014, and we need more of these workshops to create an early intervention and prevention of knife crime.
We would like to sincerely thank Azaan's mum for taking time out of what we can only assume such dark times, to have the courage to go around Luton to deliver these workshops to our young people. We would also like to offer our sincerest condolences for her great loss.
