Bailiffscourt Hotel & Spa Description

With all the appearance of an ancient manor house, Bailiffscourt's best kept secret is that until 1927 it didn't exist. It was designed for Lord Moyne, then Walter Guinness of the brewing family, by the antiquarian and architect, Amyas Phillips.

His brief was to recreate a house in the medieval style, which was favoured by Lord Moyne's wife Evelyn. Phillips searched the country for original stone, woodwork, doors, windows and fireplaces, bringing them all together at Climping to create the exquisite country house and park that we see today. In 1933 he went on to landscape the gardens to complement the buildings.

Throughout the 1930's, Bailiffscourt played host to the high society of the day until the death of Lady Moyne in 1939, and in 1948 it became a hotel.

Samantha, our receptionist at Bailiffscourt says: ‘Save on wrapping paper and reuse last years, if it’s a little rumpled reverse it side up and iron on a low heat. The ironing board is a useful wrapping station - No achy back once you’re done.’

I stayed here with my husband on our wedding night last weekend (01/09/18). From booking the hotel, the staff were brilliant and we received an upgrade to a Sussex suite from a classic double room due to it being our wedding night. We arrived at about midnight and the night porter said we were already checked in. He showed us round to our room and then returned with a glass of champers for each of us! Lovely room with a four poster bed and we woke up in the morning to someone landing on the helipad right outside our window! Breakfast was lovely and the staff very friendly and welcoming. We’d booked massages in the spa too, and the treatments overlapped with our check out time. Reception told us that, rather than trying to keep wedding dress/suit/all our luggage there, we could just check out of the room later and after our treatments instead! Spa was beautiful and treatments were just what we needed. All in all, it was perfect and we were very impressed with not just the grounds but with the staff’s friendliness and can-do attitude. Thanks so much!

Spent the day here with my mother for her birthday treat. It was an amazing day with glorious sunshine so we were able to relax in the Spa outside by the pool. Unfortunately, drinks are served in plastic or paper cups outside so it was better to wait and enjoy your drink in a glass after you have finished at the poolside. I had a Drift Away massage with Laura and I would thoroughly recommend for anyone who would enjoy the luxurious surroundings, the use of quality oils, quality massage beds with warm water mattresses, sensual aroma’s and a quality trained therapist!! It was truly amazing!! (it sounds like I know this woman but I don’t) I was really disappointed with the changing rooms at the Spa- they were so small and no where to change if you don’t mind stripping off in front of everyone. There is a curtain you can pull across that halves the size of the already small area but when you do this you also restrict people getting to their lockers while you change.... it was a very hot day and the heat in this room was dreadful made worse by people drying hair as you try and move about. There was no light in the toilet so it was out of order. I think I would be very disappointed if I booked this treatment/pamper day on any other day than a day that you could be outside as the indoor pool has maybe just 10 beds very close alongside each other to relax on and it was a busy spa. Your other options to chill out would be big sofas in reception area or reading room where you get teas and coffees.... staff were excellent and attentive. Professional at all times. Afternoon tea is a little overpriced but you are somewhere quite beautiful.....the sandwiches were average. The quality of the ham used here is questionable- the cakes and scones were exceptional and tea served in solid silver with stylish bone china was a very nice touch. I will definitely go back but will be prepared for the dreadful changing rooms ahead of it.

Spent the day here today, i had a wounderful time with my mum and sister... we had amazing weather, we spent the whole day here having massages and facials and just enjoying the beautiful sunshine, my therapist for both treatments was Annabel and she was fantatic at her job, and i would like to thank her for providing me with two fantastic treatments, the only thing i would say needs a little bit of improvement would be the lunch, it was ok! But not great, however it was still a great day overall and i would defiantly come back again xxx

Really disappointed with the service we received at our spa day on Sunday 20th May. This was bought as a birthday gift from my husband for both myself and my sister in-law to receive the mums to be packages. We both had 3 treatments, lunch and cream team each.

Lets start with the good points.

We both received probably the best pregnancy massages ever, my therapist was called Holly and she was excellent.

The OK points

The cream tea was fine, although the cream and jam were very cold, almost solid.

No the not so good points.

The lunch was tiny, we both ordered the open prawn sandwich which was 1 slice of very hard toast with a small spoonful of prawns, hardly a snack let alone lunch.

The facial was ok, but then the hard product sell came at the end of the treatment despite me advising the therapist that I was not interested, it actually felt very awkward and uncomfortable after what was supposed to be a relaxing treatment. She advised she wouldn’t go through the detail but decided to do so anyway.

The pedicure. Upon arrival I’d informed the receptionist that I had gel paint on my toes that would need soaking off, she advised she would let the therapist know and they will probably start my treatment early. A few hours later during our cream tea another receptionist advised that I would now have to pay £20 to remove the gel, or they would paint over it. I advised that this was acceptable as I only pay £20 for my gel manicures at home and informed them with enough time. Every solution I then presented was no’d, I said I’d happily take an express pedi with a soak off but was advised I would still be charged. It actually got to the point of ridiculous when making suggestions that would just get bounced, I asked them to check their T&Cs for treatments and hey didn’t, I can confirm it didn’t state anywhere that clients must Have ‘clean nail’s’ or there would be a charge, and my husband advised that they never told him upon booking. In the end I gave the treatment to my sister in law who changed it to an express manicure (30 mins) and and an express pedi (shortening her pedi treatment) as the therapists refused to perform both at the same time (usually 1 hour treatments). I then left early as I just found the whole experience stressful.

Not the type of service you expect for a luxury birthday present, particularly when you’re pregnant.
