Our commitment to local bands, live entertainment and live music continues next week with Tuxedo Junction on Thursday night and the Alleycats Open Mic Night this Sunday.
The pub is open as usual this evening so feel free to pop down where Ed and Martyn will be happy to welcome you in.

We’re sad to hear the Castle Road Summer Fayre is cancelled tomorrow due to the forthcoming inclement weather conditions, but we wish to thank everyone who came to see us today and all our fellow traders.
We’re open as usual tomorrow from midday and have a meat raffle draw just after 4pm, so come see us and perhaps you’ll win your dinner!

Just visiting Portsmouth with no idea of where to go for a drink - the Barley Mow looked like a decent pub and we weren't disappointed. Great beer and open mic night featuring some extremely talented musicians playing ukelale, jewish harp, acoustic guitar, harmonica, etc. Could have stayed there all night and listened to this splendid music. Some right characters who were very friendly - layout of the pub is how good pubs used to be based on. Very lucky to have come across such a brilliant place.

I drink in many pubs in Portsmouth and Southsea but always return to the Mow. In my opinion it serves without doubt the best real ales in the area and the choice is always fantastic. Also it's the friendly atmosphere that's appealing.

After a busy day on the island, we needed a pub not far from the hovercraft, that we had not been in. A search on phone provided the Barley Mow. First impressions when you walk up to it in the dark are that it dont look much as you see the bar first which is a bit sparse. However, dont let that put you off just walk to the side and into the lounge and you have a lovely traditional wood panelled pub with a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. They also serve real ale and its kept well. Really enjoyed our Saturday night here.

A wonderful time at the Barley on my birthday. Fantastic food and brilliant beer. Staff friendly, efficient and helpful. The public bar is highly recommended for any private function. Could not have been any better!

A fantastic pub with brilliantly kept beer and a friendly and inviting atmosphere. Great place to get started on your evening adventure or to just sit and talk. I liked the atmosphere. Overboard with Christmas decorations but not a tinsel in sight. A buffet in the corner for punters to go and help themselves while drinking! Simple but Ingenious. Great, friendly atmosphere.
