Beauty From Decay Description

Beauty From Decay is a design company run by Industrial artist and sculptor Tom Hindley.

". . . I've always had an obsession with engineering from a very early age, especially from yesteryear. My goal is to allow others the opportunity to see and appreciate the true beauty in the quality, design and architectural splendour in our man-made history, a celebration of industrial development and progression from the revolution to the present day. The items I use, from engines to surgical equipment, gears, bolts, tools, weapons or anything that has a story that I think should be remembered, have helped to forge the life that we live today. By creating Installations, pieces, sculptures or whatever you would like to call them personally, that history, and more importantly the personal story of that item can live on as a usable tactile piece of artwork, rather than something stood safely behind a rope or hung on a wall out of reach. A celebration of outstanding unnatural beauty. . . "

Come and see some select bespoke pieces ready to buy for Christmas, along with 22 other artisan makers, craftsmen & women. Kentish Made Pop up Shop, Aysgarth, High Street, Staplehurst, Kent, TN12 0AU
The shops day time opening hours are 9am - 5pm today and tomorrow. Last chance to come along, until next year!
... I will be around all evening tonight to discuss the finished work available on display and any future pieces. Be great to see you there.
Photos show a tripod light fitting made from a Rolls Royce fighter jet exhaust, a desk made from a salvaged Triumph Mayflower bonnet & grill and a memorial piece dedicated to a fallen WW2 pilot & the remains of his mighty Hurricane aircraft. More to see in the shop! #BeautyfromDecay All the best, Tom.

Finally finished the last of my deliveries from the #kentcountyshow this weekend. It looks like I've got 2 black eyes and I definitely feel like I've been in the ring with Mike Tyson, but what a brilliant 2 weeks it's been. Finally got a chance to try out my minty fresh No.77 #beardoil I picked up from the mighty #beardjuicekent at the show. Kicking back with a brew now so I can wade through the piles of messages I've had from the lovely people of the southeast. A massive tha...nks to all who came down to look around and those who went home with one of my industrial marvels. It's you beautiful people out there that allow me to do what I love to do, and for that I can't thank you enough. -T. #meettheartist #beautyfromdecay #kentcountyshow #oldschooleventskent #industrial #vintage #lighting #steampunk #bjkent #beardjuicekent #beardoil #madeinkent #madeinengland #beard #bearded #beardandtattoos #beardgang #beardlovers #pogonophile

It seems fitting that I share this album on February the 14th. I've thought about creating a piece of jewellery for a year or two, and it would only be right making the first piece for the woman I love.
The design was initially inspired by Victorian Ladies fine dress jewellery, the sort worn by royals and well-to-do women of the period. I wanted to give the impression of movement with sweeping lines and striking features that ooze class and sophistication, but using humble 'g...rass roots' materials and finishes as an offering of my past, present and my future.
The load bearing polished brass ball chain was one that I grew up wearing through my teenage years, as a gift from my past. Below is a bronze pulley removed from a 150 year old grandfather clock, hung from black enamel chain links from which two sweeping chains are attached. A gift of time. Below the pulley is the tailpiece of a Victorian ladies bookmark handcarved from a single piece of 'mother of pearl' with a delicate bird motif. The bronze clasp is made from clock parts. To the right hangs a single cut glass costume earring, circa 1900 for a little sparkle.. Finally on the left is a pair of crucifixes removed from Italian rosarie beads, one silver, one 18 carat gold.
The Necklace is displayed on a string-wound jewellery bust, mounted on polished Teak salvaged from a local Victorian railway station platform. On the lower right is our first name initials in Victorian printing press blocks.
T- for Tom. C- for Cally.
Just a little something to show that I love her.

Floor standing 'standard' with an articulating boom removed from a lathe, original enamel shade, Edwardian turned solid mahogany billiard table leg, vintage tractor steel belt pulley base (circa 1920s), cloth covered 'sash cord' cable, Edison bulb, inline rocker switch.
Dimensions: 140cm x 22.5 (max adjustable height 170cm)
Tractors, engineering salvage and billiards- the perfect recipe for the Edwardian Bachelor. An Intrigueing, massively over engineered talking point. Stand...s tall without using up unnecessary floor space, beautiful yet practical.
Piece is signed and supplied with artwork certificates of authenticity and serial number.
