I’m Larne, I’m 21 and today I officially completed my business admin apprenticeship!
When I started at Benedict Hair and Beauty I was enrolled on a Hairdressing Apprenticeship. During my time as an assistant I would cover reception, take photos and post for social media and do more ‘adminny’ jobs...after a few months I came to the realisation that my passion for Hairdressing had subsided and it was causing me to be very anxious/nervous which was causing a negative impact on ...me and my development. At this point, I felt very apprehensive and didn’t want to leave the salon, so I worked up the courage to tell my manager and trainer and I’m so glad I did! After some deliberation my manager created a new role for me. Within a few months I was responsible the Front of House as well overlooking the social media.
Now over 2 years have passed and I feel I have excelled more than I deemed possible. I work very closely with my manager, which not many people get the opportunity to do, and I feel I have learnt so many valuable lessons that will help me personally and professionally. Sometimes it’s difficult for me to visualise where heading or count the achievements I’ve made. But knowing that opportunities have been made available just for me, makes me proud, excited and grateful.
To anyone that finds themselves believing in a career and then ends up not liking it, it’s not the end of the world. You can be 16, 21, 30, 50 and realise you enjoy a different career path than the one you’re on. Believe in yourself, fall and get back up, and do what is right for your mind and soul. Have positive energy surround yourself with good pals and positive things will come to you. This may be the end of my apprenticeship but I will be bringing GREAT things to Benedict Hair and Beauty and I can’t wait to share them with you all. Cya for now! Larne🤙🏼

Dear career advisers, teachers, parents, friends and family
Before ruling hairdressing out, please make a conscious effort to find out what the job actually involves. As hairstylists, not only do we have the ability to make people feel amazing and confident about themselves but we are challenged daily by science and maths. Mixing up colour formulas is no easy task, a gram too much and you're hair could go green... or even snap off. Making sure those angles are correct so that your haircut isn't lopsided is also not a breeze, it takes an intelligent person to figure it all out.
It's surprising that we never ask banker or accountant to justify their jobs. Is it because they've been to university?! But does uni guarantee you a job?! Err no! The only thing guaranteed, is a whole load of debt.
If you're looking to get into hairdressing thinking it's going to be a breeze you're mistaken. Long hours on your feet, hair dye all over your clothes, no weekends to yourself, listening to people's problems, solving those problems, fixing their hair and thats not even half of it. Despite all of that, there's one thing that makes us one of the happiest professionals and that's the satisfaction of turning someone who was feeling rubbish about themselves to making them feel fabulous! We give people the courage to deal with whatever it is their going through. A good old chat with us makes a world of difference and we can safely say a banker or accountant cannot provide you with that.
So dear teacher, parent or friend, we have one request. Don't be so ignorant, open your mind and find out more about the world of hairdressing before ruling it out. Trust us, the opportunities within the industry are endless.

Saw Sarah for the first time, following a recommendation from a short-haired friend. Used to see Sinead, who's done some great long cuts for me and my wedding hair. Was very pleased with Sarah's cut which took me from pretty long to short. She was chatty, professional and this morning, I had no problem styling it for myself for the first time :-)

Really pleased with the colour. Had my hair done 20th December ready for Christmas. It's now Feb and I am due my next colour. However the colour has lasted and is still of a good quality. Little Sinead did a great job with my cut and colour. Looking forward to using Emma due to Sinead leaving. Thank you x

People always ask me where I got my hair coloured!! I love the way Alex interprets my vague wishes and gives me a great cut every time as well as giving me a style that is gorgeous and low maintenance! (how well he knows me!!)

Never disappointed ! Thankyou to Jo and Farah . Wonderful attention to detail and great conversation too xx

Just had my third visit to Benedicts. On my first, Sarah did a fantastic cut - not only giving me the style I wanted but also showing me how to re-create it at home. Sarah coloured my hair today and I'm really pleased with the results. All the staff are friendly and welcoming, I'd recommend Sarah and Benedicts to anyone.

I had a really lovely experience at the hair dressers today . I had a wash, cut and blowdry by Farah. She was extremely professional and took her time explaining what products she was using. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a great service.

Had the back neck & shoulder massage, scalp massage and a facial. I have been to many hotels/ spas etc and had treatments but nothing like I did today! Felt so relaxed and comfortable in the lovely room. Already re-booked for a full body massage in a few weeks !! Thanks so much Lisa

Had my hair coloured at Benedict Hairdressing today. Jo did an amazing job, love the colour but also it was raining and I did not have an umbrella so Jo asked one of the staff to nip and buy me one from the shops. That's what I call good customer care

Had a dramatic restyle by bex and I loved the work she put in to make sure my hair looked how I wanted it
