Lawn mower racing has to be seen to be believed and its happening right here this Saturday (August 4) in Five Oaks, Billingshurst. The British Lawnmower Racing Association 12 hour race is motor sport at its most eccentric - fast, furious and definitely madcap! We'll be refuelling visitors and racing drivers with our Billy's in the Field menu of freshly cooked burgers and breakfast baps from start to finish - yes, even through the night until 10am on Sunday. The event opens to the public at 3.15pm (racing starts at 8pm) This year, the event has moved to a field on the Slinfold side of Five Oaks, opposite the Haven turn. An extremely well thought out campaign that addresses serious concerns of local residents and businesses hence my reason to share this to Billys page.

You may have travelled miles for our famous Billy's Big Breakfast but the ingredients haven't. We are proud supporters of locally produced food so our best brekkie is made up of succulent sausages from John Murray Butcher & Game Dealer of Loxwood, eggs from Hallgate Farm in Petworth, and tomatoes from Nutbourne Nursery in Pulborough. We came to Billy's for the first time at the weekend and wow it was yummy!

Myself and my 5 year old met up with a friend and her children smack in the middle of lunchtime. We had a nice table and being disabled I appreciate the assistance I was given and the space at the tables I had.

The staff were truly lovely, bubbly, fun, helpful and super friendly, however one of the ladies seemed to be having an 'off day' the poor thing, and she could maybe have thought twice about the way she directed a couple of her comments towards us and the children, and also the way she spoke to the other staff sharply and loudly in front of us was maybe a bit off for them and us, but never mind, hey, we all have days like that right and I am sure it will be different next time and my pal said on previous visits this staff member has been perfectly friendly and kind towards her family.

The train table was a total hit with the little ones as was the food, they had great fun and my daughter is begging me to come back again soon and bring her three cheeky little school friends.... so watch out for that guys and good luck with that, they are little monkeys!! Lol

The food really was very tasty, the chipolata sausages had such a nice taste and the chips are cooked to perfection for my tastes. I don't often indulge in cooked breakfasts but I had a little one and I will definitely be having another next time, it was scrumptious.

My little one had some salted caramel ice cream afterwards that really was worth every penny, the taste of it was to die for! If you want somewhere to go for desert with the kids I can highly recommend heading here!!

I also took a naughty little treat home with me, as I couldn't manage pudding there, and I must say I can highly recommend the lemon drizzle cake, it was absolutely delish and was big enough for me to halve and share with my dad which he totally appreciated .

So all in all thanks guys for a lovely lunchtime and we will be back very very soon!

Background: I first visited about 6 months ago as it was recommended by the Travelodge next door where I frequently stay.

Since then whenever I am in the area I visit for breakfast/lunch or tea or simply for a strong coffee and reports to finish before heading home.

Food: Hot and tasty - never had an issue with anything on the menu:

Billy's Big Breakfast, home made puddings and some from the specials menu on the wall have all been good.

Drinks: Good coffee (much needed as I drive all over the country) and the usual things you should expect nowadays.

Customer Service: You know you come quite often when the staff start to recognise you. I have met a few of the regulars and chatted in the past to get an better idea as I become more regular working in the area it's important to find a local place that's good also for meetings, meals and drinks.

Whilst I type this review and look around I see a table at the other end of the building with five professional ladies all with their laptops out discussing something work related with drinks. I am not the only one who has discovered this lovely place is great for visits in the day any age.

I usually see the lovely mature lady waitress whizzing around the tables social and polite and smiley even when I can see it's busy sometimes, the experience shows that in the busy periods they remain calm and great service.

There is plenty of seating inside from comfy quiet couple of sofas in a corner to standard table and chairs typically with a window view from 2 to 6 seated easily. They have an interesting custom high table which hiding inside for those curious or a regular will know has an electric train set inside a model village. The top of the high table is glass so by finding the coin slot and inserting you or any children can watch the train run around.

It's been nice to watch some of the young people interested in such things and away from tablets and phones for 5 minutes. I would suspect more infrequent visitor would miss the high table so do have a look.

Location: Easy to find, free parking for 20 or so cars next to the Travelodge.

Additional: Free Wifi! WOW! the friendly staff, quiet environment is perfect to work on reports before I get home. The Wifi is actually good which is a pleasant surprise.

Anything they could improve? - I have not found anything - they welcome you, they check if the meal is ok, they check if you need any sauces etc etc. The prices are very good value and I love the local friendly atmosphere with the staff and locals chatting.

Anything else that makes this worth a visit? - friendly, would recommend dropping in to try anything,

It's such a good sign seeing the regulars having a laugh and comfortable with experienced staff which is a complete change to typically motorway service places which are generally all the same employing young inexperienced staff and nothing that makes it unique.

With my professional hat on: The acoustics are better than expected which will be better for those with any degree of hearing loss/deaf and you can hold a conversation.

Thanks to the staff at Billys you have a regular and don't change a thing!
