Birchwood Fishery Description

Birchwood is a trout fishery which is neatly settled in the countryside, just a mile out of Drumquin with its man-made lakes being supplied with a crystal clear supply of spring water being fed through all the lakes. This leaves the fin prefect trout ready for a good hard fight when hooked in either the 2 fly lakes and our bait lake. On arrival you can sign in at reception in our log cabin were u can top up u'r fly box with that special fly that is working on the day in our tackle shop, Tea and coffee is also avaiable if u fancy a rest from fishing, for a catch up of tales being told back at the cabin( of the big one that got away)

Restocking standard lakes tomorrow. We had hoped to restock the big lake but unable to do so this week. Tomorrows fish will once again be the 3 to 4 pounders that are providing great enjoyment at the moment and next week we are going to stock 50 fish over 10 to 20 lb weight! More tags added to all lakes tomorrow and we just need them caught! Forecast is for showers Saturday morning but dry tomorrow and Sunday so should be another great BWF weekend!

Another great week over at the home of the big, tagged fish! 1,400 was our total this week which show how busy it was.
Before we do the numbers, we would like to thank Ian Gamble, Pauline McClenaghan and their team of coaches for bringing 13 lady anglers to birchwood fishery last Sunday. It is fair to say that everyone went home happy and enjoyed their angling experience. Thanks also to GoFishing NI who had their paparazzi in attendance and local snapper Jason McCartan from t...he Ulster Herald too
We are also delighted to report that our Sandwich lady Trish is recovering well in hospital after a recent illness and we all wish her a speedy recovery
Only 1 Tagged fish was landed this week although a certain Mr King landed one without paying a tag so that was replaced and we had fun with him all day lol. Although i should add that he never pays the tag anyway as he is miserable lol Tag was managed by John Irwin earning himself £25
Geordie Purvis also picked up his £100 prize that he won in our Christmas draw too and Finbar McNamee also collected his prize of a fly box full of flies which he put to good use landing a few on them so well done to both of them!

Brilliant day on Sunday past and shows we need to encourage more ladies to take part in the sport of Angling!

User

Some new pics and a couple from a previous report. Some people thought it was a 20lber. In fact it was about 14lbs! Slight rise in temperature and some of the bigger fish seem to be coming out of hibernation. Weather this week is to become a lot milder and the hour changes now on the 31st which will leave the daylight hours much longer

A big thanks to the Loughmacrory Angling Club for lending us 15 rods for tomorrow's ladies day. These rods were donated by Mark Patterson of Loop to loughmacrory coaches for using for events just like these and we appreciate their help. Remember folks, we will be giving the ladies the use of the steel head lake tomorrow and apologise for any inconvenience caused. BWF

Should be back on stock again today folks

User

Great couple of days with the home of the big, tagged fish! Fish were landed yesterday up to 20lbs and below is a couple of pics from Declan estimated at Up to 14 pounds! We even had Mars bars and mouse tails which are still banned by the way! We retsocked the standard lakes with another 100 fish averaging 4 lbs and along with last weeks stocking, our customers are having a great bwf experience! We added 3 more tags, one into each fly lake so our part has been played so come ...to BWF and catch them!
Sunday sees our steel head lake being held for a Lady anglers day and we are expecting more than 15 lady anglers and coaches both Male and female organised by Ian Gamble of the Oaks Fishery. Sundays have been quiet of late so hopefully you guys will show some understanding and enjoy the atmosphere. Good weather forecasted for tomorrow so come and give us a go

Sorry for the late report folks and with the extra day of the bank holiday we managed a cool 1149 fish total which was excellent. Here is last week's angling report.. Most fish, Ricardo..... 38, 48 & 39 (125 over 3 days) Albert Hepburn..... 68 (pb)... Big T..... 20, 45 (65 for 2 days) Sean Wallace..... 52 Keith Kilburn..... 50 Tissue..... 37 Agita..... 36 Skinny..... 33 Eamon McGee..... 32 Peter Crooks..... 30 Ricky Stewart.....29 Ivan Leacock..... 28 Jock Hepburn.....28 Matheus Kasprzak.....23 Terry Morrison.....20
Heavy fish.... Skinny.....6 from 10 to 13lbs Ricardo..... 5 from 10 to 12 lbs Gerry Canning 3 from 10 to 14lbs Albert Hepburn 12lbs in steel head lake Lukasz Dawid 10lb in rainbow lake Big T 11lbs in steel head lake Peter Crooks.... 11lbs Ivan Leacock..... 10lbs Deane Corrigan..... 10.5lbs
Costa sunglasses were won on Monday with a tagged fish on the new lake by Peter Crooks!
One other tagged fish landed by Lukasz Kasprzak earning him £25 !
Our bait lake was really busy on the bank holiday weekend and all customers filled their quotas.
We have decided to increase a few of our ticket prices which will come into effect from the 1st of April. We apologise for the increase which is beyond our control. Cost of buying fish has increased last year and this year again. We have tried to keep it to the minimum and most of our prices will remain as normal. Standard lake prices from 1/4/19 1 hour c and r on standard lakes.... £5 2 hour c and r on standard lakes.... £8 4 hour c and r on standard lakes.... £10 All day c and r on standard lakes....£15 The only real change is on our all day ticket or short term tickets. In fact it is now cheaper to fish from 8am until 10pm than it has been in the past.
Specimen lake All prices stay the same
Bait lake.... 1 fish ticket £6 2 fish ticket £10 3 fish ticket £14 5 fish ticket £20 (no change)
We hope you all understand that we do not take this decision lightly but we strive to deliver the best angling that we can and unfortunately that comes at a small cost. Still not bad value for money though folks!

Home of the big tagged fish has done it again. After a bit of a drought on tagged fish, we had 2 landed in quick succession today. First was Peter Crooks who landed himself a nice pair of Costa Sunglasses after landing his first BWF tag fish and next was a modest £25 for lucky angler Lukasz Kasprzak on the rainbow lake. Well done everyone!

User

This is Tadhg Colgan from Carrickmore who visited BWF at the weekend for the first time to try his hand at fishing. He showed a real flair for our sport and even helped his Granda Doney who is a reformed poacher to catch some of his lol Well done Tadhg! This just goes to show that everyone is an angler once they discover and try the sport. 5 high quality trout and the experience of catching them costs £20 for a family and the memories last forever!
